My Notes: APOSTLE AROME OSAYI || THE WORD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS 14 || THE REMNANT VOICE || 20TH NOV. 2024 Introduction Theme: The Crown of Righteousness is a reward granted by the righteous Judge to those who fulfil their God-given assignments and live lives marked by obedience and genuine righteousness. Key Scriptures: Revelation 3:11: “Behold, I come quickly: hold fast that which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8: Paul declares his readiness to receive the Crown of Righteousness after completing his course. Matthew 16:27: “The Son of Man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then He shall reward every man according to his works.” Revelation 22:12: Jesus promises to reward every man according to their works at His return. Matthew 5:20: Exceeding righteousness is a requirement for entering the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 7:21-23: Jesus warns about those who perform religious acts without truly doing the will of God. Purpose: To encourage believers to walk in true righteousness, avoid hypocrisy, and ensure their works are aligned with God's will so they may qualify for eternal rewards. Main Teachings 1. The Crown of Righteousness is Earned Through Works Righteousness and Works: Salvation is by grace (Ephesians 2:8-9), but believers are saved unto good works (Ephesians 2:10). Works reveal the righteousness of God within us, qualifying us for the Crown of Righteousness. Scripture: “The Son of Man shall reward every man according to his works” (Matthew 16:27). Paul’s Example (2 Timothy 4:7-8): Paul describes completing his fight, finishing his course, and keeping the faith as essential prerequisites for the crown. 2. Exceeding Righteousness is a Requirement (Matthew 5:20) Definition of Exceeding Righteousness: This righteousness surpasses the superficial religiosity of the Pharisees, who sought public recognition for their deeds. True righteousness stems from intimacy with God, seeking His approval over man's applause. Hypocrisy in Righteous Acts (Matthew 6): Giving: Avoid publicising charity to gain human praise. Praying: Do not seek attention through public displays of piety. Fasting: Abstain from disfiguring yourself to appear spiritual. Illustration from the Transcript: Hypocritical acts attract human applause but disqualify the performer from God’s reward. “If our works excite men more than they please God, we miss the mark.” 3. Obedience to God’s Will is Essential (Matthew 7:21-23) Jesus’ Warning: Not everyone who calls Him “Lord” or performs miracles in His name will enter His Kingdom. Only those who do the will of the Father are truly known by Him. Scripture: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of My Father” (Matthew 7:21). Workers of Iniquity (Matthew 7:23): Those who misuse God’s gifts for unauthorized purposes are rejected. Illustration from the Transcript: Illegitimate works, done without intimacy with God, are like children birthed outside a true relationship. 4. The Fight for Focus and Faithfulness Challenges to Righteous Living: Distractions from the kingdom of darkness. Pressure to gain human approval. Paul’s Resolve: Despite challenges, Paul remained focused on his God-ordained assignment: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). Illustrations and Examples 1. Hypocritical Righteous Acts (Matthew 6) Example: A person gives alms in front of cameras to gain praise. The act gains human recognition but disqualifies them from divine reward. 2. Workers of Iniquity (Matthew 7:21-23) Example: Ministers who perform miracles but act outside God’s will are called “workers of iniquity.” Their works, though impactful, lack divine approval. Practical Applications Seek God's Will: Align your actions with His purpose and ensure your works are authorised by Him. Avoid Hypocrisy: Let your righteousness be genuine, seeking God's approval rather than man's applause. Remain Focused on Your Assignment: Stay steadfast in the fight of faith, overcoming distractions and opposition. Cultivate Intimacy with God: Prioritise your relationship with Him, allowing your works to flow from His guidance. Examine Your Heart: Periodically evaluate your motives, ensuring they are pure and aligned with God’s will.
