Detailed Study Notes |WEEKLY PRAYER MEETING | RCNSA | 16 SEPTEMBER 2024 Overview: In this sermon by Apostle Arome Osayi, the focus is on understanding our role as priests and kings in God’s kingdom. Apostle Osayi emphasises the significance of priesthood in allowing divine authority to manifest on Earth, and how the anointing functions to empower believers in their unique capacities-whether in teaching, ministry, or other forms of service. The message calls for spiritual discipline, maturity, and the rejection of spiritual immaturity that has characterised much of the African church. Apostle Osayi also strongly critiques the pursuit of fame and personal gain within ministry, urging believers to focus on their spiritual authority and calling. Context: Delivered in a passionate and prophetic tone, this sermon is addressed to a Christian audience seeking a deeper understanding of their role in God’s kingdom. Apostle Osayi addresses the body of Christ, particularly focusing on the African church, calling for a return to sound doctrine and spiritual maturity. He speaks against the "game of stars" in African ministry, where leaders elevate themselves at the expense of building the church into spiritual warriors. Key Teachings: Priesthood and the Kingdom: Apostle Osayi highlights that our priestly capacity is essential for interacting with God's kingdom. Through prayer and priesthood, believers provide earthly permission for heavenly interference (Psalms 115:16). Priesthood establishes the foundation for God’s will to be done on Earth as it is in heaven. Without exercising priesthood, believers cannot see God's move in their lives. Anointing and Authority: The anointing has layers, each empowering believers to function in their God-given authority. As we grow in our priestly duties, God elevates us to new levels of authority, just as David declared, “My horn shall thou exalt like the horn of a unicorn” (Psalm 92:10). This authority is key to ruling in one’s domain-be it in ministry, business, or any other field. Understanding Spiritual Influence: True influence comes from partnership with the Holy Spirit. A spirit being, whether demonic or divine, does not give natural resources like money but instead grants spiritual influence. This influence is the supernatural currency that enables believers to impact the spiritual and natural realms. Apostle Osayi contrasts true spiritual influence with the false doctrines of "miracle money" that are prominent in some circles. The Importance of Spiritual Exercise: Apostle Osayi stresses the importance of fasting, prayer, and spiritual discipline. These practices subdue the flesh and elevate the spirit. Without rigorous spiritual exercises, believers cannot fully manifest their kingship or the authority God intends for them. This spiritual discipline leads to true conversion, where reliance on self is replaced by reliance on God. The Danger of Spiritual Immaturity: The African church has been intentionally kept in a state of spiritual immaturity. Osayi warns against the "pastoral tyranny" that keeps congregations dependent on the pastor rather than equipping them to do the work of the ministry. He criticises ministries that elevate the pastor as a star while keeping the congregation in ignorance. True ministry equips the saints to do the work of the kingdom (Ephesians 4:12). Prophetic Voices and Spiritual Warfare: Apostolic and prophetic voices must rise to challenge the existing order and prepare the way for the Lord’s move. Like John the Baptist, these voices will face opposition but are crucial for spiritual renovation. These voices prepare the spiritual terrain by filling valleys, lowering mountains, and straightening crooked paths (Luke 3:4-6). This prophetic work is necessary for God’s kingdom to be established. Scriptural References: Psalms 115:16 - “The heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth He has given to the children of men.” This verse explains why God requires human cooperation through priesthood for His will to be done on Earth. Psalm 92:10 - “My horn shall thou exalt like the horn of a unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.” This scripture supports the idea of spiritual authority being linked to anointing and the role of divine empowerment in ruling over one’s domain. Luke 3:4-6 - The voice of one crying in the wilderness prepares the way of the Lord. This passage underpins the idea of prophetic voices that pave the way for God’s work by removing spiritual hindrances. 2 Corinthians 1:8-9 - Paul speaks of being pressed beyond measure so that he would not trust in himself but in God. This scripture illustrates the process by which God allows trials to bring about spiritual maturity and dependence on Him. Reflection Points: How are you engaging with your priestly responsibilities? Are you allowing God’s will to be established in your life through prayer and intercession? In what areas of your life do you sense God is elevating your spiritual authority? How are you nurturing this anointing through spiritual discipline? Have you been influenced by the "game of stars" in ministry? How can you realign your focus to ensure your spiritual growth and maturity? What areas in your life are still driven by self-reliance rather than God-reliance? How is God calling you to deeper dependence on His power? Practical Takeaway: Exercise your priesthood through disciplined prayer and fasting: This is crucial for allowing God’s authority to manifest in your life. Spiritual discipline leads to greater anointing and authority, allowing you to rule in the area God has appointed for you. Recognise and reject spiritual immaturity: Do not settle for being an infant in the faith. Seek to grow in the knowledge of God and His word, equipping yourself to do the work of the ministry. Identify your spiritual horn: Find the area where God has granted you influence and authority. Whether it’s in teaching, business, or another area, embrace that calling and serve with diligence. Main Prayer Point: Pray for a greater manifestation of God’s anointing in your life. Ask God to give you the grace to fully engage in your priesthood and to exercise your spiritual authority in every area He has called you to rule. Seek the Lord’s help in rejecting spiritual immaturity and embracing the responsibility of spiritual discipline. Conclusion: Apostle Osayi’s sermon is a powerful call to action for believers to rise up in their priestly and kingly roles. It challenges the church to reject spiritual immaturity and to pursue a deeper relationship with God through prayer, fasting, and discipline. By embracing our divine anointing, we can establish God’s will on Earth and rule with authority in our assigned domains. The sermon reminds us that spiritual influence, not worldly fame or material gain, is the true currency of God’s kingdom. Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the call to priesthood and the anointing You have placed on our lives. Help us to exercise our spiritual authority faithfully, and lead us to deeper levels of spiritual maturity. May we reject every form of spiritual immaturity and embrace our roles as priests and kings in Your kingdom. Let Your will be done in our lives as it is in heaven. In Jesus' name, Amen.
