@Elkanah Corcos She is a superhuman entity, by the standards of modern remnant. She is immortal(to physical damage as well) and possesses powers no human on remnant can match(except possibly Ozma/Ozpin at one point). On top of this, she does have some modicum of control over a force of nature on Remnant, the Grimm. She is a goddess by definition. Just not a very powerful one. Ozpin would have been playing at god when he teamed up with her, since he has no control over a natural force of remnant that has been seen yet.

I love Salem's backstory. It perfectly walks the line between making her a sympathetic character, but still firmly establishing that she has become a real monster in almost every sense of the word.

No, Salem is just mentally ill. Seriously, even ignoring the PTSD Salem likely gained from fighting monsters with Ozma and seeing Ozma die, how many mental disorders Salem would gain from being immortal like she was within the time span it took her to "sway the heart of man", and the mental disorders she would develop from being immortal in complete and total isolation (Solitary imprisonment does more in less time), she was poisoned by the corruptive pools that the gods apparently left behind for the lols and resisted the effects of all of that when she had literally any support, and she relapsed when she lost all of the support that she gained. What part of that is "real monster"? If she entered into the DC universe, objectively anything that worked on the principle of "destroying evil" would either cure her, or have no effect, since the Spectre thought that the Joker was innocent. Seriously, when considering the character like Salem, the question isn't what Mental Disorders she has, it is what Mental Disorders she doesn't have.

@@orekihoutarou6107 True. When I say monster, I mean what she's trying to do, or has done, to the people of Remnant. That's what I mean by walking the line. She started just as a grieving widow, but she never got through any of the stages of grief, stopping at denial. All of her actions leading up to the destruction of humanity were her own choices.

@@orekihoutarou6107 I never got the sense that the gods were being spiteful until the Younger Brother destroyed humanity. They didn't bring Ozma back not out of spite, but because it would've risked the balance of the world. The Older Brother cursed Salem with immortality as a way to teach her a lesson about the importance of that balance. The Gods seemed to act more like parents attempting to teach their children than anything. Salem was the one who willingly tried to go to war with them out of spite for giving her immortality.

Wow, this song suits Salem incredibly well. I could almost feel sympathetic for Salem at this point. Almost. Her grief and rage led her down a very dark path from which there is no return. But she made her choices, and where she is now is a result of them. I think Ozma still feels something for her, but it's more a desire to bring her peace than any form of affection by now.

That's what I love about Salem's backstory. It would've been far too easy, and honestly lazy in my opinion to make Salem either a hidden hero or a pure evil monster. Instead, Rooster Teeth made her a sympathetic character that can't be saved from what she's done.

she can't be destroyed. so what are the options for her character? the way i see it their are 2 options. she can be imprisoned (temporary measure) or she can be redeemed imo the ultimate series plot point is that the question was how to kill/destroy her and not how to accomplish his mission

This sent chills down my spine and I've noticed how Salem is actually something more akin to a murderous antihero than are typical comic book villain granted she's plenty evil but she seeks I suppose her own sense of justice granted we've seen a few villains like that before but the way she does things is quite different than the way we were used to I suppose I can't quite explain it but great AMV it captured many key elements and good timing.

There is a very big chance that she will be saved, ozma/ozpin alrealdy asked jinn if salem can be destroyed but she said that salem can't be destroyed. So chances are his only option is to change/save her.

I genuinely love what volume 6 did to Salem. She went from a spoopy face in the shadows to a genuinely understandable character that embodies the concept of a moral grey area. You understand exactly why she does what she does, why she is rather forgiving to her closer subordinates despite their failures, and also see that everything that happened to her was a direct cause of her own actions.

I feel like that a comparison can be made between Salem and Venom: both are monsters in every sense of the word (Salem being a human-grimm hybrid of sorts while Venom is an alien symbiote,) both have redeeming qualities (Salem genuinely caring about her late daughters and treating her followers with some respect while Venom does care about it's host's safety) and both are capable of amazing and horrifying power (Salem being invincible and having god-like magic powers while Venom can use his own body as a weapon.) The big difference: Venom is anti-hero on his best days who only kills criminals while Salem is ALWAYS a villain, albeit a somewhat sympathetic one, who is willing to dispose of anyone she deems useless. Another one is well, Salem is of fantasy where as Venom is more within the realms of Sci-fi. Imagine what would happen if Salem were to ever get her hands on Venom or worse, CARNAGE!...Remnant would be FUCKED!
