My Momma would make this for us all the time. She was a single mom who worked several jobs to keep food on the table. She always added a can of peas or green beans and we would have it on toast. I always looked forward to it. We didn’t know we were poor, it was just good filling food. I miss the easier times. Thank you to the both of you. I love watching you and hearing your stories. every night when they come in, Nipper and Spaz do that. Baby's is quite and mean. they are loud and the sweetest two little kitty's. they were wild little cats as to weeks old. they were starving and the wild animals were trying to get them. 3 of them did get killed and we were able to tame these two. nipper is the mother of Baby's. they hate each other and the other two love each other. every night Spaz and Nipper go of the deep end. one will go to one end of the house and the other one at the other end of the house and have a freak out. then they calm down and go to bed. They have to come in at night. I have them trained very good. they dont get on anything in my kitchen. they just pass through when they come in and go out.. I like to give them the freedom in the day time if the weather is good. they worry me to death as soon as we get up they are ready to go out. So nipper just does that. it was her freak out for the night.

I use equal parts flour and oil. But I also fry the beef in the oil and add a lot of pepper before adding the flour. The beef will turn a little darker and curls up. Then cook until flour is done. I add only milk as needed to make consistency as desired. You can also use ground beef, sausage or turkey, even canned tuna instead of beef if desired. It can be served over biscuits, toast, tomatoes, rice, even steak fries. Old and delicious recipe for sure because I have been eating it for over 60 years. A beginner needs the measurements but after they fix it a few times they will just know how much to add of each item. Love you two and keep posting.

Daddy said that was what they ate over seas in the Pacific wars they ate this because the beef was salted down so that it was a Blessing when they cooked it. That was what Daddy called Sh** on a Shingle. That's what the Marines called it. My Daddy sure did love it cuz Mama cooked it every other month. You did a great Job!!!❤❤❤

So happy for a new video. I laughed when Nipper would meow. We have 2 cats just the same. Yes I have tripped with food but it's ok. We love them. I remember Buddig meat sandwiches. I remember paying like .39 for a pack. Raised my kids on it too. I really enjoy BOTH your story telling while Brenda cooks. There is something warm and comforting about your videos. Back to Nipper, I have told the Vet about the one cat and his constant meowing and demanding attention. The Vet laughed and said he is spoiled. The new one is a rescue and is sucking up the attention. People should stop complaining and worry about their own lives. David is hysterical, his comments are fun. If I want serious I would watch someone else. Love you both. Anna from Arkansas.

A lot of veterans call this iSOS (aka Sh_it on a Shingle) because it's served in the military. Growing up we called it chipped beef gravy and put in on toast. All you do is chop the dried beef, put it in the pan and sauté it about 2 minutes and make a basic gravy, nothing complicated.

The ratio I use for white sauce is 1 tablespoon of flour to 1 tablespoon of butter to 1 cup of milk and you can multiply it out from there. That makes a bechamel sauce, you might want to thin it with water for gravy consistency.
