Every word of this reminds me of every warm day I spent at mamaw and papaws , I stayed there more than home. We'd run the hills and at night catch lightning bugs, then we'd go inside , watch TV in the dark cause we'd have the windows and doors open to cool us off and the lights would attract moths , I remember laying in her floor eating an oatmeal creme from little Debbie and sippin pop out of a glass bottle. Its the best memories of my life, also , my uncles who were just a few years older than me would tell me scary stories about creatures lurking in the night, crawling through windows and itd scare the life out of me lol 😆

The lack of respect for elders is because the children are no longer taught that. In fact, children are not being taught to respect anyone. We see that all the time on the news and in the schools. Rules and laws are not even enforced any more.

So sad to. Thanks for sharing my friend.
@giggabiite4417 Жыл бұрын
@@BelindaTN I may have younger eyes, but I'd say that it's just that fewer elders earned that respect. So many took it for granted that because they gave their folks respect, it meant that they were owed some too without realizing all their parents and grandparents had done to earn that respect. (I don't want to start nothing, here btw, I just want to share my 2 piece.)

I am a 68 y/o grandpa. It hasn't been that long ago that I started telling my grandkids the stories that my grandparents use to tell us kids at about their age. Just to think that I am telling these stories to my kids tickles me to no end. The stories about the Pocho in the Woods or the She Devil of the river, the Rugaroux of Black Bayou, and of course Old Lady Hag and her Black Panthers. Now I have some stories that I have made up on my own. There is a lot of Booger Men that live along the bayous and lakes and swamps that twist and turn all over Louisiana, and I have had my own run-ins with these creatures. Some are made up but some of the stories I tell are real too. Now every one of my grandkids want to hear a story every time they are around me, and they bring all of their cousins around now. So, I am upholding a family tradition that I hope will carry over with some of them.

Them days was the best now we lived down a old gravel road bout a half mile from my granny’s house so back then soon as I was big enough to walk good and know which way I was going I’d take off to granny’s. We were the last house on the road so nobody to bother me back then. I would love to go back to them days and do all that again. Only thing that we worried about was copperheads or rattle snakes there were some so old there they was drawing social security now.

Oh you don’t know what memories this has brought back to me here in the Foothills of NC! Walking from Grandmas about a half mile down the dirt road to my Aunt Mary’s,Aunt Editer and Uncle Jimmy’s. They too lived at the end of the road so no worries anyone was going to grab us up 50yrs ago. But my Aunt Editer would tell us kids we couldn’t go upstairs bc Rawhead and Bloody bones lived up there and he would get us!! I was 25 yrs old before I ever seen the upstairs and I was still scared to death then! But thinking back to then as a adult we seen some strange things and was told stories that I would LOVE to be able to sit down with them now and ask questions. You just don’t think as a kid that these stories will ever matter but boy was I wrong! Thank you so much for the walk I took today with you and back to my childhood!!

But I remember when I wasn’t very old and the wind was blowing a bush with branches on it & it was scraping again the window. I woke up crying because I thought it was a bad man scratching my window trying to get me! I remember I got scolded, explained it was just a bush with branches & mom rubbed my back till I fell asleep again. My grandmother and mother were raised in Upper Shut-In in Hot Springs, NC They were told about Raw Head and Bloody Bones. It was terrifying! It was passed down through time. Grandma told me the story on 'scary story night' . Another reason raw head and bloody bones would get you was if you weren't home by dark. I never tired of hearing stories from the Appalachian Mountains. Thanks for sharing!

My dad always talked about Raw head and Bloody Bones while I was growing up. I was so scared when I was little. Every crick in the house was him coming to get me for his friend Betty Bodine so she could cook 😆😂. Thanks for the memory. Blessings fr Loudon Tn.

Reminds me of my gray granny Dixie in Morristown Tennessee (bean station) my uncles used to tell us about raw head, bloody bones, and scratch eye (three different monsters is how they told it) The booger man too. It’s really nice to hear a good story teller. Thank you.
