It is the final day to candle before lockdown and I am nervous. We lost power this week which could affect the viability of these eggs. I was prompt in wrapping the incubator prior to our power outage and I pray it made a difference. Let's find out together!
Thanks for watching!
Also... a big SHOUT-OUT to our buddy, Colton! xo

For people who are hatching important eggs (not that any fertile eggs aren't valuable) there are lots of ways to be prepared for a power outtage. The Genesis Incubator is already set up to just run directly off of a battery... any 12V DC battery. Or... if your incubator is only a/c then maybe just get a portable inverter? Then you can plug anything into it as you clip it on a battery... boat batteries can be deep cycled... I'm not advertising, I don't sell any of those items... just trying to help people :) Side note... YOU are doing a GREAT Job!!! Excellent information here :) thumbs up!

I once had power go out for 26 hours. I had Indian Runner eggs in the incubator on about day 20. Now it wasn't as cold as you have it but when the power came back on the incubator temperature was at 21.4C. I thought my baby ducks would have been goners. Now my ducks go into lock down around day 25. So I candled them when I put them into lock down and my utter surprise I saw that 2 for the 20 eggs had movement. I ended up hatching 14. Incredible. Good luck with your baby chicks. I'm sure they will be fine.

Pins and needles! That was like watching a scary movie just to make sure everything was going to be ok. So glad you saw movement. Silly ,I know but I was intrigued! Thanks for the education, I'm going to try my hand at incubation. My husband got me on incubator for Christmas.

Don't worry too much about the warmth issue. I have seen hens off the eggs for literally hours and still all the eggs hatched. Same held true for my one hen that came toting 12 little ones when the temps were below freezing the entire month before they hatched. I thought a raccoon had gotten her. I suspect the freezing temps did not affect the eggs that were deposited in the nest prior to her sitting. It's a good thing to keep the temp as close as you can but mother nature sure does show us a few tricks now and again.

I have similar incubator should it be at 38 degrees during lock down period? Because my other incubator that I just got it says 37.5 degrees for lock down period.

I know this video is old, but I'm curious, with the power being out, and you wrapping it to keep the warmth in, I'm assuming you didn't turn them?

Hi I got some eggs from a guy that we do landscaping business with.( he has free range chicken) He had them sitting out on a shelf in the sun at the nursery yard, and had said if we want some eggs to just take some. So I did. It was not until I got home and was unpacking them that one plopped on to the counter and cracked,a tiny bit of blood oozed out! That's when I realized... OMG They have Chicks in them!!!! I do not know anything about incubating eggs, but what the heck, I wanted to an least try to keep them alive! If they were not dead yet!,so I quickly looked online to see if I could repair the crack, which I did with some candle wax, I then looked up how to build an incubator(because I don't have one and my husband would flip if I went and bought one) and how to candle eggs. so I have a make shift light and box with towels, holding temp at about 99/100 F, and a cup of water to hel moisten the air in side. I'm guessing they were between 10-13 days when I did the first candling.( but I'm not sure) the biggest egg (the one that cracked) I was able to see blood vessels and an embryo on the first day I candled, but now Today, 4 days later I can hardly tell what is going on, because the chick is taking up all the room. All I see is the air sac! The other two are a few days younger, I can see the blood vessels and shape of the embryos even though the eggs are a tan kaki color, but they are getting bigger too. today I saw life in 2 of the eggs, the 3 I'm not sure because It is hard to see. any advice for me??? Im going to keep monitoring them, in the meantime! and Pray over these babies a bunch!
