On the cow/bull topic you forgot steer. That's where your beef comes from, bulls can breed, steers can't. The pig equivalent if you're curious is sow / boar, gilt and borrow. On the reading between the lines of the 22 cow deaths in the US per year, from a the perspective of a prior farm kid. Yeah some city slickers will walk behind an animal closer than they should or right up to it from the rear to pet it before we could even say if they could do so (these were in county fair settings). No one really has a problem with it, it's mostly a courtesy thing (might say no if it's with a newborn or an actual reason for the animal to likely be antsy) but walking up straight from the rear should be an obviously bad idea to anyone really. I was going to say who've had animals/most pets but then I realized startling any living thing/person should help you understand why it's a bad idea to do it to something that weighs significantly more than you do. You really do have to read between the lines on those 22 people a year that manage to kick the bucket via cattle (especially if it's strictly dairy in that specific) and I've been kicked in the head by a heifer or two myself trying to prep them for show arenas.

Steer! Of course! I love all the different categorisations there are for animals. Yeah I think walking behind a large animal is a 10/10 terrible idea. I've seen some videos of what a kick from a horse, or even a donkey can do. No thank you.
