Great video! One note; to reduce the cost you don't need to add "Voice Control" for an Apple Car Play upgrade. My dealer did the installation on my 2018 Macan without adding Voice Control. Siri still works, you just need to press the on screen button in the lower left side of the screen. Not adding the Voice Control switch assembly cuts the cost of the upgrade at least in half! Keep the videos coming, they're engaging, educational and just fun to watch. Thanks!

I am a bit disappointed that a 2017 Porsche wouldn't have Carplay and Android Auto from the factory. By 2017, many non-luxury brands were offering it even on base model vehicles.

ScramJamJohnson. What made me think so expensive is the need for the new controls, switches on the steering wheel. So if I understand your post I’m assuming: $830+$395+~ $120(++). (My dealer is $170). So let’s say around $1400+?

@@w2ge A dealer won't install aftermarket carplay modules here, gotta go to a reputable shop. The CarPlay option was $830 from Porsche that's not the cost of aftermarket. The aftermarket unit they used is half the price ($395).

Porsche has always trailed behind the industry when it comes to telematics. They make the best driving cars but provide mediocre infotainment and convenience systems. Apple CarPlay should be standard equipment on all models.

Well Porsche shares parts with Volkswagen and AUDI. Even if you buy an lamborghini it can have audi parts. The problem is only that you as a customer probably are paying porsche prices for something that is the same for an Audi. Branding is the key.

You do not need to add the stalk to add CarPlay. It works fine without. Just software key. If you don’t have navigation, you will need to add antenna.

They have a voice control option you have to pay for to get the button even without CarPlay. Like many of their options they don’t make it easy to add after the sale, sadly. I think they miss a lot of after sales revenue that way but their margins are pretty impressive already so what do I know.

Very interesting. Never would have imagined it would be that involved. Recently saw a video installing an aftermarket controller for a Macan that enables closing of the trunk/hatch and opening/closing all windows from the remote. Can the Porsche dealership do that without installing a controller, by adding code or unlocking those functions? What would that cost?

Henry Kwan Yesterday ( 29July 2020 ) I had a Sony XAV-AX5500 installed into my 2014 Boxster S w/ Bose speaker system. The tech removed the Main Screen and replaced it with the Sony. Now I have Apple Play with back up video. I can also send and receive text and respond to them via voice. I have 3 choices of navigation, Apple , Google and Waze. I can play music off of my connected iphone or installed am/fm radio. I can make phone call and receive. I can play music of of a memory stick and play video on the screen. It also come with a hand held remote. It took two techs about 4 hours to install.

Most car companies solution would be "you should buy a new one with that option". It's tough to add OEM options after the original build on most vehicles.

Colin Maynard I have read some tread on Macan forum that it is not required. People who installed without voice control stated carplay works fine. But you would need built in navigation.
