@@ThePaulogdm My reply might have been removed because of the link. I got mine off Amazon, and the company is Road Top. My car has factory Nav, so that could be a factor in mine working without Aux or running the microphone. Can't say for sure.

I don't understand why it needs to connect to the interior mic? Does it run totally independent of the entire standard infotainment system? How are calls managed as assume your Bluetooth can only link to the idrive OR the MMI?

Hello, several people commented that the audio with Car Play is not as clean and good as the original Bluetooth connection, I wanted to ask for your comment in this? I would order one of those immeadiately, but I am worried for the audio and music quality.

Great question! I don't agree. Thus far, I've been very happy with he audio quality through CarPlay-- never noticed a decrease in sound quality.

This is why I’m asking if there is a way to buy just the cable. The mic that came with my unit (not from JD cars) needed to be installed on my steering column and I think that’s the reason why the quality is not good on my system. The OEM placement is great. @JDCarsChannel is there a way to buy just the cable?

Quick question, like demonstrated, the CarPlay UI shuts down when park distance is activated by putting the car in reverse or hitting the button. But what will happen if you're on the phone while putting it in reverse? Will the conversation be terminated?

The CarPlay UI actually doesn't shut down; Rather, it just goes into the background (still running). This means your music, phone call, etc. continues even when backing up. The only time the CarPlay UI fully shuts down is when the car is shut off completely.

My SOS is no longer working after installing and it’s such a long winded process operating the apple car play. You have to have internet and Bluetooth on and switching between OEM is Lan other long process

Excellent video, regarding the Aux cable installation. I have a 2019 F31 and has no AUX port just a USB port. Any insight whether I would need take the arm rest and remove all the idrive trim etc as you show in your video?

if you haven't already figured it out, no you don't need that. what i discovered is that you just need to code in the aux option. then you just select that audio option in the system and you should hear sound without connecting anything to the usb or aux port i did that on my 2019 f23 so your setup may be slightly different

Great video! I'm all connected, and eveythng aorks perfectly except the microphone. It functions using the adapter for the BMW microphone, but when I call others, they notice that my voice is not clear and I end up using my phone's speakerphone instead. Any ideas on how to improve this? Do i need to route a new microphone and bypass the bmw microphone? Thanks!

There is some settings that you can play with….like MIC volume and OP volume. You can also go into settings and switch to use the car’s original BT for phone only!

Hey. Installed, all ok except one thing. After I switch off the car it’s showing No Signal, orange color, on the screen until the car’s systems are completely off (after around 10 min.). It happened to you, too or to anyone?

@@JDCarsChannel yes. The system is running fine. I’ve identified the issue. The MMI box is turning off faster than the IDrive causing a lag of signal for the display. After complete iDrive power off the message is gone from the screen.

I bought a CIC one because my F30 is 12/13 and the UI was pretty much equal to CIC ones. After opening it, my head unit has a 4pin LVDS but my screen has a 6pin LVDS (2pin for 12V/power is connected in another place at the head unit - pretty much like yours!). I am basically trying to maintain this 6pin at the screen, leaving the 12V part directly to the HU but connecting the 4pin LVDS at the OUT part of the box/interface and using a 4pin/4pin between HU and IN part of the box. Screen shows "no signal" message, any thoughts?!

@@costeljankowski1529 that was spot on. F30 12/13 is NBT. Switched the MMI for a NBT one and worked perfecty. But now I bought a 535i GT F07 2011 and had to go back, since its CIC haha. But working 100% too. After you do once at one of them, you get the thing.

@@Tony.Barrera I had mine installed, what I do, I leave the cursor on the Spotify section of the screen and can control it with the scrolly thing on the steering wheels, so I can can skip song with steering wheel controls.

Ok, first off thanks for the informative video. BUT: 1. you totally left out the part where you explain where that aftermarket mic cable goes. Especially after going through the hassle of routing it around the cockpit I would have expected you would explain that. 2. you don't ever mention where the AUX cable goes to. You quickly mention it comes from the main harness. Is that the same harness that is attached to the Head Unit through the quad socket? Quick heads-up for future video: we are not only interested in the tutorial for what goes where but also WHY you need to wire this thing this way. A quick introduction at the beginning of the video breaking down each component and what it's for would be super useful.

Thank you for your feedback! 1. Are you speaking to where the mic cable plugs into the main unit? There should have been a clearly labeled connector. 2. About 10:40 in, I show where the AUX cable is routed to in the center console. The other end goes to the main unit, to a labeled connector as well. I hope this helps!

tbh not really. You still need to remove the radio, AC trim, and bottom sensor panel. The screen connectors are swapped, and depending on what options you choose, you have to plug in the GPS and 4G Antenna into it. If you have a rear camera you can plug it in too. The quadlock harness is also necessary to install and you have to swap the optic cables from your OEM plug to the new one. It's not terrible, but it's still time consuming.
