Oh my goodness. This is the best apple cake I have ever had. I just made this today for my Pastor, only I changed it up a bit. I used your batter. So glossy and tender. I used my home canned cinnamon apples, which were McIntosh. For the glaze, I used the “syrup” from my canned apples. Absolutely ahhhhhhmazing. So good I had to make two. Unfortunately this recipe is not one I would make again. I found it to be somewhat heavy and dense. Could that have been due to over mixing the batter? Not sure. There was some pretty vigorous mixing in the video. The cake was moist but could have been due to the amount of oil used. I think the taste and flavour would have been enhanced by including some salt in the ingredients.

As an older senior, living alone, I scaled this recipe down to use in my Dash mini bundt cake maker and froze the extra cakes. I even used the batter in the mini donut maker. It may be more work and time than a cake like this, but the result is awesome. I have a mandolin for when down to only one or 2 apples in the house, to make tiny slices.

Let me add a comment about the viewer below that recommended waiting til the cake cools down to room temp before applying the icing . I would advise NOT doing this. If you do this all of your icing will lay on top of the cake and you don't want that. By putting the icing on a warm/hot cake, part of the icing will seep into the cake and part will be left on top of the cake. This lessons the amount of icing with your first bite which could be a bit much if poured on a cool cake.

400 is too hot in North America so I suggest 350 for 30 minutes. You can pet cook the apples for 10 minutes if you want a softer apple. Just a suggestion. Great recipe

thanks I wondered about the temp. I have oven currently set at 375 and cake is oven - I went with the middle ground of the stated 392 and my "gutt feeling" of 350. I am halfway thru cooking and after reading your comment I decided to lower temp to 350. I did not precook my apples and prob should have.....but I diced them fine so hoping that works.

I did the brown sugar mix on the top but skipped the glaze which I think made it dryer and firmer than yours came but we like it that way. I’m gonna have a go at it. It looks Marvelous. 😍 Gotta say this though. I baked apple cakes before but the flavor was never intense until I baked them using whole wheat flour for apple cakes. For some reason apple flavor, cinnamon or spices and nuts and dairy fat all stood out and everything could be tasted to my sheer surprise of course because I always thought whole wheat was overpowering the reason I don’t buy whole wheat breads.. it just intervenes with add-ons. Looks lovely - I only wish that these recipes on KZbin would give the equivalent amounts in the measurements that most American's use, in teaspoons, tablespoons, and cups. This is very frustrating to me!!!

Hi Dorothy There is a youtube channel I found called 'Yolanda'. She has put up exactly what you want cause her viewerscwere asking for it. It is a 2 page conversion table of measurements. She said she prefers to use the old cup, teaspoon etc like yourself. Go ahead and search yolanda conversion table and it should come up for you to use in future. Hope it is suitable. Take care. I’ve made this recipe several times now and everybody loves it. The only change I’ve made is add two handfuls of sultanas and it turns out delicious every time.

Looks really delicious, but it would be helpful if you could add the name of each ingredient to add while preparing and mixing. It really is a great recipe. I would have to use a gluten free flour as I have Celiac Disease. Thank you 😊❤

For a gluten free version, try using a combination of ground almonds, rice flour and fine milled polenta (don't use "prepared" polenta, whatever you do).
