A delightful blend of crispy cookie dough filled with apple, cinnamon, and walnuts. A childhood favorite in Turkey, these cookies boast a slight crispiness on the outside, coupled with a wonderfully buttery and melt-in-the-mouth interior. It's like enjoying bite-sized apple pie. 🍎🍪✨
You'll need
For the dough:
200g butter
2 tbsp starch (wheat or corn)
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 tbsp yogurt
1 tbsp vinegar (apple or grape)
60 ml vegetable oil
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla sugar
2 tsp baking powder
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
For the filling:
5 apples
3 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tsp cinnamon powder
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
For the topping:
Powdered sugar
1 cup = 200 ml
Here's how
Peel and core the apples, then grate them using the thicker side of a grater. Transfer to a pan.
Add granulated sugar and cook, stirring constantly until the apples release their juice and it thickens.
Stir in cinnamon powder and chopped walnuts, then transfer to a suitable serving plate to cool.
In a mixing bowl, combine room temperature butter, vegetable oil, egg, yogurt, vinegar, powdered sugar, starch, baking powder, vanilla sugar, and gradually add flour until a soft, non-sticky dough forms.
Divide the dough into 2 equal parts, and each part into 3 smaller portions. Shape each into a ball.
Roll out one portion on a floured surface to form a thin, round dough.
Cut the dough into 8 triangular pieces and place apple filling on the wider edge.
Gently roll to shape the cookies.
Arrange the prepared cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake in a preheated oven at 160°C for 20 minutes until they turn slightly golden.
Once cooled to room temperature, dust the cookies with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy!
