5:14 Not even half a century back, actually. It wasn't until 1974 with the passage of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act that women could get credit cards, bank loans or even finance a car purchase without a man's signature. Husband, father or even an adult son (with good credit, of course) was generally required. A single woman would virtually never get a mortgage on her own. In 1956, when they lived in Kalamazoo, my mother was asked to provide a letter from her husband that he was okay with her working before she was offered a job. It's not hard to lose track of how much we've accomplished when comparing it to how much farther there is to go.

I feel bad for Barry's kid cause both back-stabbed Barry's wife, Barry is a terrible person to people he doesn't actually love/care about & the whole family(at least on Barry's side) is a bit of a wreck & the parents are also kinda having financial issues cause they owe OP a lot of money. I kinda hope for the kid's sake maybe sane members of either side of the family take him in at least while his parents work to pay OP the money Barry took from her. I wouldn't be surprised if Barry starts getting mad at Lara, he probably blames her for making OP realize he was cheating(I mean even if she wasn't there I'm pretty sure this was the last straw in the relationship) & Lara also bringing divorce papers when he didn't want this.(Guessing cause these people are full of themselves he didn't tell Lara he's using OP for money) Probably even yells at Lara for being distracted by her phone since OP mentioned Lara wouldn't focus/hear anything go on while watching a show on her phone. I'm also guessing OP informed Lara's husband of what was going on, semi imagine he forces Lara to pay OP some cash as an apology for constantly coming over & helping herself to everything. Lara likely wishes she never bugged OP(at least to this extent) cause it's the downfall of Lara's family & people are mad at her now. I'm kinda surprised I didn't see Lara message back after OP left to send in the divorce papers cause it'd be funny to see her panic cause Barry is yelling at her for not stopping OP let alone bring divorce paper over. OP likely just thanks her for helping get out of the hellhole before telling Lara she's informed Lara's husband of everything since Lara won't leave her alone. Something tells me Lara isn't getting custody of Chris. I hope some karma comes to Barry's family cause his mom & sister come over all the time unannounced let alone the fact it's when OP is working. Made worse by the family coming over acting like it's their right to do as they please while treating OP like a maid that should be ready when they get there. I wouldn't be surprised if word got out what happened to Barry, his GF & his sister leading to his family being humiliated & shamed by friends(well soon-to-be ex-friends) & neighbors. While they likely don't see the errors of their ways they at least regret messing with OP since mistreating her led to all of this. I hope if OP & Lara's husband try to find someone again they find people that aren't trash like this family.
