You have a pretty fishy section here... a good mother with a MASTER'S degree who clearly loves and is concerned about her daughter ACTUALLY sending expired food? Swollen cans? Unrefrigerated meat and fish? And WHY?!? No way she would have. Also the woman herself NEVER says anything about it... and she clearly wasn't senile. It would make sense coming from a hostile in-law, a resentful girlfriend... or if the spouse himself was actively trying to make his wife and child sicken and die. Logically, a man like him probably had life insurance on both... to help clear his debts and start a new life with his cheating partner. What DOES make logical sense coming from a lowlife man with a character THIS bad and ZERO human kindness is this probability: Jerk went through the dumpster behind a grocery store and picked up those expired packaged foods... and the meat and fish were also thrown out by the grocery because of spoilage or contamination, too. Jerk then packaged the stuff up, applied typed mailing labels and then he and his little girlfriend drove to a romantic destination in the same zip code as the one Naomi's mom lived in, so the shipping info or postmark would show that it was sent from the mom's zip code . He probably included a typed note from "mom" telling the wife he despised to eat it all and don't waste it. Love, mom, etc. Probably thought he was real funny. Probably paid the shipping cost from her bank card. Fix that and it would be a better story. You had a good ending... only problem was this big plot hole.
