"Your tiny... you couldn't hurt a fly." You know, there is a reason one of the pet-names for firearms is 'The Equalizer"... You don't need to be big or strong, you just have to have a steady hand and an index finger capable of squeezing with around 4 to 6 pounds of pressure. And if you are close enough, even the steady hand thing is optional.

@@Arthur09608 And this is why I'm deeply conflicted about the gun rights arguments. People talk about how to protect the rights of "responsible gun owners" and I agree completely with that goal! I just want to find some way to protect the rights of responsible gun owners while also protecting the rights of everyone else not to suffer at the hands of *irresponsible* gun owners, and that is very hard to do. 😟

@@norarivkis2513 A mandatory gun safety/maintenance class that needs to be re-taken every X number of month/s? Paid for By the NRA? And not a 'One size fits all' approach, if they have handguns and rifles, then they need to take the tests for both. and if they fail, their guns get taken until such time as they pass, or an X amount of time/failed tests happens. Once the time/tests have exceeded X amount, the NRA buys all the guns and gives the cash to the former owner. If they want to get the guns back, or to buy new ones in the event of the selling, they need to pass the test.

Sometimes, the only thing some people will respect is raw power. But I wish they would run a few stories in which someone who is not naturally in a position of power -- or the offspring thereof -- figures out a way to *use* power to protect themself anyway.

No, once assault is proven, it doesn't matter how much power and money a person has.
@summersalvatore47287 ай бұрын
@moniquestuckey-kirkham7762 I'm so sorry to disappoint but there is literally 100s if not 1000s of cases out there that disprove that statement. Sometimes even if they both have power, if the criminal happens to either be a man or have just a little bit more power the victim will be silenced.
@moniquestuckey-kirkham77627 ай бұрын
@summersalvatore4728 To an extent, you're right, but it's not the power and money it's the fear the women have to not come forward. The cases that actually do win is because of the courage these women have even if the men are powerful and wealthy.
@norarivkis25136 ай бұрын
@@moniquestuckey-kirkham7762 It's some of both. Certainly rich white Christian males get a degree of leeway from the courts that's frankly absurd, especially when it comes to crimes against women. Look at the Brock Turner case for an example. It is possible to convict them, but it is difficult if there is *any* possible doubt (not merely a reasonable doubt) about what happened, whereas men in other ethnic categories and who are poor are often convicted even when there is much greater doubt about the events. And when rich white Christian males *are* convicted, they typically receive very generous sentencing because the judge is much more concerned about "not ruining his life" than they are about not ruining the life of someone with whom the judge can identify less closely, such as a Black defendant or a female victim.
