The line NONE OF YOU BUSINESS MOM, is an excellent line. Mother breaking into a child's home is unforgivable. Now mother wants to steal money for a brother. This is absolutely an entitled mother, but a dingbat entitled mother. Wow, this is getting better and better. How can a mom be so clueless!

Some homes, like mine, have a small apartment built into them. My mom had her own bedroom, living room, a 1/2 bath,a small room for an in-line cabinet with a sink and two burner stove top, refrigerator and table, her own porch and entry way. The bathroom with the shower and the laundry room is used by everyone. This granny flat is only about 300 sqft but big enough for her. There is an inside door to the rest of the house. That’s how you have an apartment inside someone else’s home.

I think this has to be a translation / cultural hitch. Some of these stories also talk about flats, or apartments, as 'rooms'. There's a general impression that these stories are Asian in origin, possibly Japanese. The heavy leaning towards 'filial piety', only implied in *this* story, but more blatant in others, is not really a western trait.

Third world country? Yes in the Philippines our banks still bank book / passbook as a deterrent for cyber fraud. We also have accounts with bank book and atm (plus check book for checking accounts). Oh by the way, having a bank book does not make a country a third world. If Australia phased them out in the 80s it is fine if it works for that country. But what works for one country, does not mean it may work for another country. Oh by the way, just so you may know, Australia is seeking the help of the Philippines in deterring Chinese aggression, so much for the third world country tag.

She had her own place, but moved back to her parents because her dad was sick. She held on to her place where she lived before she moved back to her parents. She stayed at her parents to look after her mom, after her dad died. Good thing she did that, because her mom was not appreciative of all that she did for her. Hope that this helps the confusion. Must be nice to have $500,000 saved as a single person, when myself and others like me have been employed for over 30 years, own a very, very second hand furniture type modest home that was small enough for my 2 daughters and myself and have $0 savings. If I won a lottery or someone gave me a $500K gift, then and only then I "could" be able to save up. I'm the type who would keep working, not go spend it on vacations and expensive jewelry and such, I hate frivolity. It's crazy to me that some people work their entire life at difficult jobs and have $0 in savings for retirement, and others work relatively easy jobs and get really good money for their work and are able to live a leisurely retirement. I think the roles are reversed... the people who work the hardest in our society, end up with the least to show for it. I know that even in my current employment, I work over 40 hours a week quite often, I still have no way to do savings with the cost of the mortgage and bills and food. It's crazy.
