A friend had to drop out of high school due to illness. It lasted a long time. She was able to get work and did well. She turned out to be a real dynamo. Did the work of two. She did get her GED, and went to business college. She is now working for a boutique construction / architecture firm, as secretary , accountant, payroll and business law clerk. Not bad for a girl who was too ill to go to high school.

Ron is a self-absorbed elite and will burn all his bridges with his continued arrogance. I have met the arrogant rich and the old hidden and established rich. I was not impressed with the arrogant family. The other family was impressed with me by my demeanor and knowledge. My mother grew up in WWII Germany where food was a struggle. My mother is an extremely well-read person that stressed those ideals on her children. Education is a piece of paper but knowledge is power. Grace and humility are virtues in the world.

Only problem. This stuff is most likely Japanese. I like your ending though. Maybe work in that Ron, while in the can, got a bunch of prison tats. Including tears by the eyes. After he got out, he went to work for the Yakuza as tattoos in Japan are mostly unacceptable in polite society. Ron was a screw up, and was already missing 3 fingers. Which is what you do to make it up to the boss.
