It baffles me how on one hand someone can have an affair but on the other say they don’t want a divorce. That's like saying you're going to leave the ice cream outside on the counter but you don’t want it to melt. Make it make sense!!!

My state in the US wouldn't have CPS involved or the cops. CPS is just as likely to transfer the abused kids to the other parent when it leaves them in the same house. CPS doesn't seem to do a lot for kids other than wait for the abuse to become nearly deadly or puts them in foster care so much worse they never want to go back into the system.

It's the same in the UK with the social services, it's more about keeping families together, their answer to helping me and my siblings was to send me to a camp for a week, gave my sister a day out at a theme park, while my mum had a woman come everyday to help with my brother who was a baby at the time, my mum also had to take parenting classes and attended AA meetings which she never attended, then they just stopped helping, but the abuse never stopped
