What’s the data transfer rate for bluetooth 6 &7 compared to a USB-A - USB-C ?
@roshanbaig2Ай бұрын
48 GBPS
@ParkourBrianАй бұрын
It depends - USB-C is a plug type, not a communications protocol. Thunderbolt 3, 4 & 5 are all capable with the USB-C connector, but are not USB-C. They all support different data transfer speeds and some support higher power throughput, but that’s because they have direct-BUS pins. Some USB-C have slower data transfer than some Bluetooth, and some have rates that are faster. It all depends on where the output port is connected to, however all wireless signal protocols get faster with each new generation. Thunderbolt will always be faster than wireless but it’s never going to be a fair comparison - especially for smartphone use cases where distances between outlets, devices, hubs, border routers and modems can vary drastically from room to room, house to house.

Unfortunately, I can't get another one to build my mesh network, so I got one of these TP Link routers as my secondary extender, which I have to reboot every now and then when it suddenly loses WIFI connectivity. I just trust Apple a lot more for running major comms in my home and would prefer not to use another brand. Also imagine if HomePod Minis were mesh routers, you extend your network and get secondary functionality from the device. I'd happily put one in every room of my home.

By going with their own implementation of WiFI, they might have a *single* chip which is CPU, memory, and support for all types of wireless communication. If they pair that up with a small but decent monitor they could have a smarthome display which they could sell for significantly less than an iPad. That's what I'd want as a customer, since I would want *multiple* displays in my house, and that could pretty expensive if done with iPads.

Maybe to thier own proprietary encrypted hard drive sold separately for home theater enthusiasts. You’d have the regular Apple TV for normal people who just want streaming movies. Then then option to expand the system for movie enthusiasts or fanatics 😂 like myself. If they opt not to do this I will definitely be investing in Kaleidiscape this year and moving my library over to them. The refresh rate on 83 inch oled is 144. Based on the other products that were mentioned in the list, Vision Pro is by far the most innovative. Sure it's out of reach for most consumers, but it really was impressive nonetheless. A lot of mindless haters hate on the Vision Pro because of the price, but I'm sure if Apple released a headset in the 1000 USD range with compromises, that'd be a much worse product strategy. Slow and steady is the best approach. As long as Apple keeps it relevant by introducing updates and a cheaper variant down the road, I believe it will become more popular. I feel this can replace the iPad and Macs down the road. To replace the iPhone, we will need some fantastic wearable AR glasses, which I'm sure isn't happening anytime soon. Maybe 7-10 years down the road is a possibility.

Hey Brian, I’ve been a longtime fan, following you since your CNET days, and I’ve always appreciated your deep insights and balanced takes. Lately, though, I’ve noticed a shift in your videos and podcasts that feels more skewed toward the negative side, particularly around Apple. Your tone, demeanor, and sometimes the pessimism in your delivery have been turning me off as a viewer. I miss the energy and nuanced perspective that originally drew me to your content. Constructive criticism is important, but it feels like the balance has tipped too far. Just wanted to share this as feedback from someone who’s been in your corner for years.
@briantongАй бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. I hear it both ways ALL the time. I'm either a fanboy or a hater. So I must be doing something in the middle.. My biggest point is. WHAT is there to be excited about from a major innovation standpoint. Apple makes great products, but what did they do to wow you in 2024. To genuinely WOW you if we're being honest. I think I am very balanced overall, I don't say mean negative things. I keep it real. And my experience is not the only one that matters. I'm just a slice of the pie. But my opinions are based on what is really happening and Apple has a standard that they drive into consumers so when they drop the ball that should also be a part of the story. Thanks again for the feedback, but I've really been generally covering this the same way. I can see it from both sides. Vision Pro is incredible, but I don't use it everyday and not a single person I know other than people in the tech space even own one. It's innovative and it's also a failure in the consumer space. But it's a long road and Apple will see it through to be something else in the next 5 years.

Android XR is excellent and with the Gemini integration which is beyond Apple Intelligence it’s a win-win. Also I really do believe that Apple needs to go into the foldable market asap .. It just feels like they’re starting to lag behind in that area as well and that’s not good one plus open GEN two is going to be killer particularly if it’s gonna be rocking the snapdragon GEN eight elite later.:)

Apple is trying to find the next big thing revenue wise. The Apple car consumed a ton of cash and resources and never got out of the lab. Then Apple released what was really a dev unit in the form of Vision Pro. It hasn't been a commercial success and Apple is stuck with unsold inventory. Meanwhile the cash cow that keeps on giving, which is iPhone is showing all the signs of reaching commodity status as despite all the marketing around Apple Intelligence, its sales are stalling and actually falling. That means Apple needs a new killer platform and apparently they are (belatedly) going to try and get into the smart home market. All I can take from all of this, is Tim's retirement is probably closer then he might have thought.

Sorry, but I would never automate my home with Google and Amazon. I’m not that interested in being cool anymore. When I was a kid, it was different. I’d rather wait. None of the other things you mentioned are really innovative. The ring is an ok product, not very accurate or reliable and for what it is, it’s expensive. The Sony camera is considered to be a minor update to the original model and one pro photo site thinks that it might not be much more than a firmware upgrade. The LG is good, but innovative, really? The Vision Pro is expensive. It’s also got Pro in the name as it’s not for mass buyers. After all, Sony did say that they could only make about 400,000 pairs of screens. So if anyone actually gives this some thought, it would be understood that there’s no way for this to be a mass consumer product. Additionally, that’s a reason it’s so expensive. At any rate it’s gotten great response from industry and the medical profession, and that’s great for a first gen product such as this.
