OK, here we have a "tech guy" who doesn't even understand that a Mac Mini in sleep mode consumes only a small fraction of a single watt per hour. The power required during the startup cycle exceeds his daily power savings by powering off the Mac Mini.

the new mac mini doesn't really need the power button, its so power efficient that when you put it in sleep, its pretty much off anyways.. i tend to run my full desk through a UPS too so not really an issue as it uses the stored power on sleep rather than the outlet.. Plus it also supports wake on lan, so if you really wanted to remotely switch it on via ethernet you could.

Genuine dumb question from a not apple user, would one of these mini pcs be able to handle Procreate/animation and video rendering or are they more of a server based thingy?
@TheRandomAlphaGadgetsАй бұрын
This Mac mini should be amazing at that. While there are other mini pcs that can technically do that, their cooling systems generally aren’t robust enough to prevent a system overheating. But Apple Silicon in general is so energy efficient (meaning it won’t produce anywhere near as much waste heat) that it enables Apple to make such small but mighty powerful computers!

There's no need to turn this Mac off. Sleep is what MacOS is supposed to do and it will draw very little power. The only reason to turn off a Mac is if you're worried about power surges (e.g. lightening) in which case you should unplug it, or better yet use UPS with surge protection (which one should do anyone if your livelihood depends upon these things.)
@angelagosto291122 күн бұрын
I see this as a traveling computer since the size is so small. All you need is the Mac mini and The office will supply the keyboard, monitor and mouse. So locating the😊 power at the bottom is just weird and makes no sense. Imagine putting the power button under your laptop.

The bottom places power button is a non-issue for 99.9% of people. I can count on one hand with fingers left the number of times I have used the power button on any of my macs in the last year. I'd say the lack of USB type A is going to be a much bigger issue because most of the accessories out there are still USB-A.

Because his personality is abrasive and demeaning. It's the weird cousin at Christmas. The editing is rough and tacky, and I can't tell if he likes old or new. The dislike of USB-A is odd. USB-A is still very well-used. And thinking Apple is unveiling a new line of computers with HDMI 2.1, or even HDMI 2? I would assume it is HDMI 2.2 at least.

as per my above power, the Apple Silicon Macs use so little power when sleeping that you're probably incurring MORE power consumption rebooting the thing to just re-load everything into cache and reinitialise everything. I mean, right now, playing KZbin my MacBook Pro M1 Pro CPU+GPU is consuming *under half a watt* while playing this KZbin video.
