In the US ,alimony has nothing to do with cheating. It’s strictly a financial arrangement to support the spouse who makes much less or no money. It ends if the spouse remarries or starts earning a substantial income. It’s also dependent on how much the spouse who is being sued for it makes. In most cases it’s not paid out in one payment , but in monthly payments. Even if the spouse is cheating, the person who is the third party has nothing to do with alimony. In places where you can sue for alienation of affection, (6 states only, if you can get it), only applies to the third party and not the spouse who is cheating. Also, for alimony there’s a formula. It’s usually based on income and number of years married.
