The very first IPhone had a camera but you couldn't use it without paying for the app first smh. "You're paying for the name" Not really. The "Micro OLED" isn't just a marketing gimmick. It is basically LED's printed onto a silicon wafer much like how CPU's are made, very, very different from how normal displays are made- and of course, also more expensive. To be honest, I have tried VR, a quest actually- and it was mostly a toy. After I got used to using it, I couldn't get over things like poor color accuracy and screen door effect. Apple is charging a lot but for an actually very promising product that the quest simply can't compete with. The prices account for that. Once the vision pro's ecosystem catches up and apple releases a couple new iterations, I have a feeling a lot of people will actually come around to buying one- or at the very least will benefit from the strides that apple has made here in the industry. I will certainly be looking into ways to possibly develop an unsigned app for it (you just need a developer account to run unsigned apps on apple devices) which may unlock it for things like steam VR.

I discovered the Quest 3 headset is a controller too 🤯 When headset detects hand (have to hide hands for brief moment) and controller tracking not available, you can use head tracking automatically and select anything you look at using the center dot ⚪️ by pressing the volume button❤️ I hope Meta simulates Apple Vision Pro eye tracking with finger tapping using quest head tracking with tapping your finger rather than the volume button. 👌🏻 Please do video to spread word to community and so Meta knows there is a demand for it 🎥

Saying its a VR headset because it has the same parts as a VR headset is like saying that a tablet and a laptop are the same things. Just because you can do the same things and the devices have the same hardware, what matters is HOW something is used. People use a smartphone, tablet, desktop, and laptop in different ways, so they are different things. Just like people would use the Apple Vision Pro and a Quest 3 in separate ways, so they are different devices.

I get what you were doing with direct comparison, and didn't want to get into 3rd party accessories. But with the Bobo strap and battery, you do get way more comfort and battery power, you can hot swap the batteries and I have heard that if you swap batteries on Vision Pro it turns it off first which could be a problem mid-game if they develop any for the headset. So that one add-on would actually bring it even closer. The Bobo strap is $50 so it does not add too much to the total price and is still way cheaper than the Vision Pro.

That's the same reason why vision pro has no apps like youtube or netflix. It just isn't worth the effort if there are no consumers. Def. feeling the Bias here bro. 1) Battery is built in on the Quest series AND you can add a 2nd battery externally. 2) Quest 3 does have spatial computing. 3) The lower res (combined 4.5K vision) of the Quest 3 means you don't need to blur out the edges, you have crystal clear vision all the way. 4) The Apple Vision Pro has a closed OS infrastructure, not compatible with PC, games machines etc. Only Apples closed DEV world, the Quest has EVERYONE in on them, Steam VR, Xbox, Meta store VR, youtube VR etc. It's a no-brainer. 6) Finger control exist on the Quest 3 too, but it's just a little worse than Vision Pro, so the Vision Pro SHOULD have had controllers, it would have been a more pleasant experience). Vision Pro's advantages: Super High res screens, no doubt - wins on that by a landslide. It also has the BEST passthrough of all headsets, all true! Quest 3's Advantages: Open Dev, PCVR, SteamVR, Appstores internal AND external - so a TON of apps. Pricetag - actually affordable. Comes with controllers. Totally unthethered, does not need a cable hanging down your neck.

Also you stated it has 70% of the features of the apple pro vision… for $3000 less. Avp still requires additional accessories that will easily raise the price to $4600. Plus, many of the missing features or shortcomings can be fixed with software updates and then what is missing, in most cases, the quest 3 doesn’t do that badly… and again… for $3000 less. Also, for battery life, if you added an external battery pack to the quest 3 like the avp does, then you get a similar system hookup but with more battery life. Avp is not the better device for me, especially because of eco system and cost.

I also get just shy of 2 hours but in augmented games about 1.5 hrs on quest 3. I like how you called out Apples marketing flamboyant terms or words with Spatial Computing = VR/AR. It is obvious that many 3rd party Developers on both hardware and software are waiting awhile before dumping money into Apples catching up to VR venture that only works in their eco system for the most part. 3rd party accessories for the Quest 3 have worked well for me so far especially fitting my wide face and big head. Also extended my FOV as well. With Dual Battery packs and built in battery combined I got 7hrs plus of games and movies. Apples history of keeping things to themselves and not playing nice with others will most likely not see many accessories for awhile if any from 3rd party. Steam even made an App for the Meta quest eco system with SteamVR further expanding content availability. AVP is most likely made for Apple Fanboys and not to for the general public, especially at that price point. Time will tell of course but my history of working with and repairing Apple products for the past 40 plus years says don't hold your breath. P.S. just a quick guess at their possible controller price $299.00 add rechargeable batteries plus $100. Just my big headed 2 cents worth :)

I knew the vision pro would be crap as a gaming VR headset, but I didn't expect it to be behind even in res and fov. I guess pc gamers are gonna have to wait a whole lot longer for something better than the varjo aero/crystal/big screen beyond

It's not 2060x3000 though. Apple's own website states that the screen has 23 million pixels total, roughly 11.5 million per eye. 2060x3000= equals ~ 6 million pixels per eye. I looked fairly hard, and I could only find the closest competitor to the Vision Pro being around 7-8 million per eye. The Vision Pro clearly has the highest resolution in the industry, so I'm not sure where you got those numbers. It is a break through technology that essentially prints the displays on silicon like CPU dies normally are made (definitely NOT how any other VR screens are produced). If there is any area the VP deserves credit on, it's definitely the displays (see any review really to confirm this).

One thing I was a little disappointed with on the Vision Pro is the ability to only bring up 1 screen where as the Metaquest 3 can have 3 screens. I think if the Metaquest 3s pass through quality was as good as apples then the Metaquest would be an easy winner. Literally my only gripe with my M3 is the quality of the pass through is almost just right!

I love VR, but my main issue with the Vision Pro is that it can't do real computer work; even though it cost as much as a good computer. If I could just take the vision Pro out and edit videos in final cut it would be worth the cost, but I still need to bring a whole $2500+ laptop. It's just a glorified media consumption device, that's worse than an iPad in computer task. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Yeah, however, the hand tracking is a night and day difference and with the VP you can also add game controllers and stuff. The hand tracking on the Q3 shouldn’t even be compared

Odd approach to some of these evaluations in my opinion as a q3 owner. Battery life goes to Apple? No hot swap, and the quest 3 with a battery pack in your pocket can get 4-6hrs, and without a battery pack the q3 goes 1-3 hrs. How could Apple get that win? Also did you try it yourself in moving vehicles? Casey found it didn’t work in the subway, I’m not sure either deserves a point yet or maybe it should tie.

Nice video! Without SteamVR support the Apple Vision Pro isn’t even in my consideration. With Quest 3 I can play games I never thought possible like “Zero Caliber VR” via a PC and SteamVR and “Zero Caliber Reloaded” as a stand-alone app on the headset directly. Apple Vision Pro is basically just a monitor, but recording 3D movies is a nice feature. Given Apple's track record, they will never allow SteamVR, as they refuse to divide the spoils with others. Without SteamVR support, the only way they could win me over is by making high-quality exclusive titles worth the price (next to impossible). The competition is tough - Quest 3 is just the beginning.

Vision pro is just a uncomfortable screen which needs to be connected to external battery connection via wire. It has no controllers so you have to keep your hands visible at all times. The only function which it was meant for was productivity and even there it is worse than quest 3 because you can only have 1 screen. I guess the only thing that the vision pro is better at is watching movies/videos but that is also debatable since the small FOV makes it less immersive and it is already so uncomfortable that watching movies is useless. Quest 3 is basically better for anything that you can do with a vr headset.

I'm so confused why everyone is gunning for Apple and their overpriced VR headset. OLED screens are great (I prefer more FOV tho) but things like taking photos with a headset, who is actually going to be doing that? Sure, maybe once or twice when you first get it but then never. There's so many things about this review that I don't agree with, the comparisons are very odd. If you actually look at usability and real world every day use, the Quest is miles ahead and a fraction of the cost, it's bizarre. I''m not a Zuckerberg / Quest fan, I'll buy any headset that suits what I need. I'd buy the Apple one if I thought it made any actual sense to buy it. I would only recommend it to people that have an interest in tech but aren't a geek/nerd and everything else they own is Apple, plus have a place in the alps they go to ski because it's clearly in their budget and lifestyle to be entertained briefly by one. Everyone else I'm just not seeing it.

while apple wins interm of spec, as of right now oculus is better coz of software support. we dont know the future of the vision pro, coz its rather expensive works differently than other vr headset in the market (runs on a software based on ipados and dun have any controller). netflix and youtube are still hessitant to put their apps on it too

Great video, but I don't think your scoring/comparison method is a fair one. Without assigning weighting to the various aspects, the results paint a misleading picture. I suppose Apple shuld get a point for the frontal EyeView (or whatever they call it), but what's the real value? I think you summed it up perfectly in the end. The Quest 3 is a better value than the AVP. I'd still go with the Quest 3 even if the AVP was only $1K. Living in a heavily fortified walled-off-garden is an enormous turn-off.

I am not surprised that Apple Vision Pro lowest storage Model starts at $3500. I have the 128GB Quest 3 and paid $650. The 512gb is $850 for the Quest 3. Apple is notorious for their ridiculous prices for mediocre hardware too. Their laptops I will give them they last YEARS but you'll pay $3000 for a laptop you'd have paid $1200 for in a PC. I got an aftermarket headstrap battery for my Quest 3 and I can play it comfortably for up to 6 hours.

Knowing their track record on other first generation products I see Apple offering a less expensive version probably later this year. Their strategy is probably to introduce this version first knowing that the consumer base will be limited due to its cost but allowing more developers time to get onboard so that by the time they produce a cheaper version, more customers will find it more practical. And that is the consumer they are really targeting to profit from. Also quest has a head start from being in the VR market longer

The Vision doesn't support proper VR gaming due to the lack of controllers. Gaming on the Vision compares to gaming on the Quest like gaming on an iPhone/iPad (only touchscreen) compares to gaming on a Nintendo Switch (had controllers). Hand/eye tracking seems very similar to touchscreen control, it works intuitively, but it isn't very precise for 3D games and lacks the haptic feedback of real buttons.

The vision does not have YET Netflix or KZbin apps but you can still watch Netflix or KZbin. Plus the quest 3 has at least 1 hour and 20 minutes battery 🔋 Does anyone knows if you can actually play VR games ? Like Alix etc on Vision Pro ?

Someone posted a video about traveling on a subway train with the Apple Vision Pro and it had the same issues as the quest 3. Also the next update to the quest should fix this issue. Just an fyi.

I saw the same video and the person making it did not realize that there is a travel mode that is easily set on the Vision Pro. That disables the motion detection and leaves the windows, floating and moving with you as you move in space.

Well for a $4k price they better have the best quality. As for points, Apple you get minus 8 for the overprice. So Quest 3 wins for me. If I was rich and can throw $4k away, I get both.

Thanks for your comparison. For me the most important points are what i can do with the device. And the thousands of apps for the Quest beat everything on the vision pro today. I need a device to use it for development and also for gaming and productivity. The price of 3500$ is way too high so i am afraid not too many developers will create apps for the vision pro. I guess that the device with the most software will win in the end. Meta has a good chance to adopt some features and with Quest4 they might beat apple easily. But we will see.

I can't see how battery can be a win for Apple when a Quest 3 user could have an additional battery pack stuck in their pocket in the same way Apple does). With a decent battery pack on a Q3 you can still be playing hours after the Apple device needs to be wired into a wall
