Ive been using the Apple watch for about 6 weeks, and I am certain that it over-estimates calories by quite a bit. I know this because i was eating a small calorie surplus to build muscle, based on the calories shown on the watch, and i gained WAY too much weight too fast. So it was clearly over-estimating my calories burnt.

That’s strange, it should. I haven’t had any issues with it tracking my GPS path and mapping all of that data. You’ll want to double check to make sure that you are using the correct workout profile, for outdoors as opposed to inside. Otherwise it won’t turn on the GPS.

Great review man. I agree this is even better than my series 4 and when compared to polar vantage v which I wear on my right the Apple is much faster and accurate
@sikilecar4 жыл бұрын
Seems like a pleasant suprise, unlikely AW 5, at the beginning( Hr accuracy was fixed in a further update) My experience with Apple 5 is almost always 1-2 beats below average HR against H10 in the gym. Accuracy is at level of Polar Oh1. Fo me more than enought. In your experience have you used other Wrist Hr that is comparable to AW ? Had Polar Vantage, Fenix 5,6 and they were not near accurate at the gym.
@TechyAgent4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I’ve worn the Apple Watch and compared it against a couple of others: the Garmin Fenix 5 was really bad for gym use. I think it’s just so heavy that it moves around too much. I haven’t compared it against the most recent Fitbit products, which are supposedly pretty accurate, but I haven’t had a chance to test it against those yet.

How do the efficiency in heartrate acquisition and blood oxygenation measurement of the Series 6 compare to those of the Garmin Fenix 6x pro?
@L.u.c.k.y_L.u.c.i.a.n.o4 жыл бұрын
Bingo! Garmin with chest belt ofcourse.
@TechyAgent4 жыл бұрын
No optical sensor is going to do better than a chest strap, So if your Garmin is connected to a chest strap, That will be the most accurate heart rate data. However, Garmin has been catching a lot of negative attention for their wild readings of their o2 sensor. So the blood oxygen saturation on the Apple Watch appears, at least for now, to be the most accurate for wrist-worn wearables.
@johnmanley45284 жыл бұрын
Nice review Eric. Apple does not have training metrics like training load pro that most Garmin/Polar watches have does it? How helpful do you find those metrics (training, cardio load, etc...)?
@TechyAgent4 жыл бұрын
I find those metrics helpful if they are accurate, but I like to know how their algorithms are working. So for me, I prefer to use the Oura ring for my recovery metrics. It would be nice to have one device that does it all, and I wish that Apple would focus in on some recovery metrics, that said: I doubt some of those scores coming from Garmin/Polar/Fitbit because i’m not sure they have the technology to get accurate heart rate variability. Perhaps they do, but based on some of the reading I’ve done, heart rate variability coming from optical sensors is sketchy. In the end, I don’t think most people need a body battery score or training load score to let them know if they are tired. Our bodies do a pretty good job letting us know that all by itself. That’s why I prefer to see a heart rate variability raw score as opposed to some sort of proprietary number built off of an algorithm that isn’t disclosed.
@johnmanley45284 жыл бұрын
@@TechyAgent Those are good points Eric. Hmm. I'm still undecided on the Apple Watch then. You like the heart variability score. I'll look for that on something. I'm not sure how the new Withings Scan watch would do on that. It's not out yet

How can you compare a quality of a device when you don’t have a standard reference?
@TechyAgent4 жыл бұрын
I’ve reviewed over 100 fitness trackers so I know what is par for the course and what to expect. Plus, because this is an emerging technological field, any standard reference would likely be behind anything that is new to the market, so I don’t want to take an old product to judge a new one and then assume that the new one is in accurate because it doesn’t match up with the old one.

Nice review Eric. I use the Whoop and am pretty happy with it but thinking about changing. How does the Apple Watch compare? Also, can you do a video on using the watch to track your sleep? Cheers
@TechyAgent4 жыл бұрын
The whoop focuses on recovery metrics, and it doesn’t have built in gps. The Apple Watch focuses on active metrics, and has built in gps. So the whoop Will be better at telling you how your body is recovering or if you are worn out, where the Apple Watch Will do a better job tracking your distance and heart rate metrics during active exercise.

Why didnt you compare it at the same time with some sporttester on the other hand with chest belt?
@TechyAgent4 жыл бұрын
This question comes up just about every time that I review a fitness tracker. Most viewers think that it’s an unfair comparison to compare an optical heart rate sensor against a chest strap, because a chest strap will always be significantly better. Most viewers have expressed that they would prefer to see an optical sensor compared against another optical sensor, in order to draw a more fair comparison.

The main difference between the 4 to 5.and 6 is always on display other things are useless to the average consumer even if you want it to sport in the five you have an altimeter and 32 gb and in the six you have fast charge (20%} and oxygen sensor and always altimeter and also nice colors ( red and midnight blue) and also faster cpu ( it isn’t effective at all) and also in direct sun ☀️ the screen will be brighter ( before you turn your hand you need a microscope to see the difference) this are you all the differences between the 4 and the 5 and 6 now you decide if you want to put 350-400 on the 5 or 400-450 on the six (if you want let it will cost you another 💯 $ I hope I helped you make up your mind
