Could you use a hair drier instead of a heat gun?

technically yes. You really don't need to apply that much heat to remove the screen, BUT the hairdryer is pretty inconsistent compared to a heat gun, and has a much larger bore so its hard to direct the heat where you want it. With a good amount of isopropyl alcohol you could remove the screen with a hairdryer. Use at your own risk.

it has a seal so there is no reason to glue it because it screws into the housing
