That must be her parental instincts, parents don't usually blame their kids for wrong doings but rather their friends, chrysalis sees starlight as a bad influence on her kids, she doesn't blame them for anything because she thinks they are misguided, lost without mama's guidance

It's pretty funny actually. They've reformed evil ponies like Starlight and Luna. Dragons are enemies to Ponies, yet they allow Spike to live with them. Discord is a god of chaos and they allow him to live with them now. But Changelings are still a problem since the wedding fiasco.

There's reasoning behind each of those decisions though. Luna was under the influence of Nightmare Moon, which is gone. Starlight is...very sorry for what she did. ^_^ Discord earned their trust through his actions, misguided as they may be at times. Spike was raised with ponies, and has never really given them any reason to distrust him, plus they now have a friend in high places with Dragon Lord Ember. With the changelings, the only interaction with them, aside from Kevin in Slice of Life, was to see them invading the Crystal Empire and mercilessly attacking ponies everywhere. Until now, they had not yet seen anything that would lead them to believe there may be friendlies among them, so the suspicion was quite natural. Of course, I'm not really sure how to explain what's going on with Kevin in Ponyville, and why that didn't factor into this, but hopefully that will be accounted for later on.

Ok, things this episode established about changelings. 1. Changelings are sentient and capable of emotions and complex thought, they are not just drones, and if they have a hive mind, its a thing they can choose to close 2. Changelings can speak equestrian in their natural form, they are not mute and don't sound like pinkie if she had 12 pots of coffee , nor do they have the hum to their voice that Chrysalis did 3. Changelings can turn into anything, not just ponies, they can be dragons, or even inanimate objects, disproving that they use a force field with illusion magic to change, as well as the theory that what they change into has to be able to survive on its own 4. Changelings can have names, not numbers or simply no name at all, time will tell whether this trait is unique to Thorax, or if it is shared among all changelings 5. Changelings can cry, a thing many thought them unable to do 6. Changelings can perfectly imitate movements as well as looks mere moments after meeting someone, something that was hinted at in a Canterlot Wedding part 2, but not to this extent, it seems to be a passive ability they have 7. Changelings come from eggs, not live birth, and seem to hatch all at once, like alligators 8. Changelings are born in a larva state, without hind legs, and can crawl mere moments after hatching 9. Changeling have hives, "Ever since I split my egg at the nursery hive" 10. The love blast hurled all the changelings back to their home, it didn't kill them, and it didn't discriminate based on intent 11. Changelings can sense large quantities of love from a distance 12. When a changeling gets hungry enough or encounter small acts of kindness, they have a strong primal urge to hiss, attack, and feed, and sometimes will even drop their disguise (Seems rather counter productive, its also possible he simply ran out of energy to stay changed and feed at the same time) 13. Chrysalis is considered evil by at least one changeling 14. Changelings do not seem to just pick up on emotions, Thorax gives no indication that he's reading Spike's emotions, so they might only be able to sense love, very strong emotions, or maybe Thorax was simply respecting Spike's privacy, witch would mean they can turn off their emotion sensing at will 15. There are currently no changeling detection spells 16. Changeling eyes become slitted like a cats while discarding their disguise 17. Changelings have a Kingdom, now its canon beyond a doubt... 18. Changelings can levitate things with their magic, and the color seems to match their transformation glow and eye color 20. Changelings can have a blue transformation glow, not just green These are all the head cannons that were ether made official or broken this day. And just think, this episode didn't even focus on the changelings much at all, lol

When I watched this for the first time, I started crying as soon as Spike started singing. I have been wanting an episode where Spike sings for a very long time, he's one of my favorite characters of the entire show, it's just a shame that many of his episodes aren't that good. But Equestria Games, Inspiration Manefistation, Gauntet of Fire and The Times They Are a Changeling are excellent Spike episodes. Spike had amazing character development this season, which was just fantastic! I hope that his character development continues onward from here on out. The only other episode to make me cry was Crusaders of the Lost Mark, so yeah; this episode is easily my new favorite of the season. Great reaction as always and can't wait for more! XD.

Spikes song is cridge worthy if anything sounds like something out of a pre school show. Thorax doesn't do enough to earn my sympathy because all he does is go on about how he has no friends and acting sad about it to. It felt rushed to and why are the crystal ponies talking to a random pony they have never before and act like it's fine enough the empire is freaking out about a changeling in the area? This is one of the worst in the season if you ask me and another reason why Season 6 was horrible and disgusting.

I’ll never understand why everyone is so scared of the Changelings in this show. They’ve shown multiple times that, though they can disguise as anyone or anything, they are absolutely horrible at mimicry. In fact, it seems like they don’t even try to disguise their behavior in their disguised forms. It should be really easy to find one out. There is also the fact that they are push-overs in a fight. The Mane Six defeated hordes of them in a very small space, even when the Changelings had the edge due to the mind games they were playing with their disguises. These guys aren’t really serious threats at all. Well, except for Chrysalis.

How about being reprimanded by Celestia and Luna, his commanding officers? Shining Armor being prejudice would be considered treason against what Equestria was founded on, friendship, and he would probably be court-martialed for it and dishonorably discharged from the Royal Guard. Cadence on the other hand would probably be given a stern talking-to, but since she is the Princess of Love and keeps the morale of the Crystal Empire in good spirits, she would be shown mercy by her adoptive aunts and be given another chance to make peace with Thorax. She blows it, and Flurry Heart will probably be placed in Twilight's custody since she was willing to accept Thorax until Cadence learns her lesson about being prejudice and does make peace with Thorax.

I'm not subbed to you yet? How did I not do that already? Well, I've fixed that now. XD This was, without a doubt, the best Spike episode I've seen so far, and considering Gauntlet of Fire, that's saying a great deal. This is, once again, the Spike I like to see: mature, competent, compassionate, a personality befitting the #1 assistant of Her Royal Studiousness. It warmed my heart to see Sunburst and Flurry again (and to finally have Starlight in an episode without a jab at her past evilness), and Thorax is just such a likable guy. Misgivings about Changelings are perfectly understandable, since our last real exposure to them was Chrysalis and her swarm, but it's time we broadened our perspectives and accepted that even Changelings can change. That song, though. I was speechless, and felt close to tears myself. We knew Spike could sing from the Christmas album, but that...that might just be the best song of Season 6 so far. Alright, I'm a *couple* years late, but I wanted to put my main problem with this episode out there. I found it hard to believe that Shining Armor would so easily trust Thorax, considering all the reasonable mistrust he had before Spike's song. Like, no one loses something like that, considering that changelings kidnapped and impersonated Cadence and hypnotized Shining. I believe Fire Brand covered this in his “Taking The Times They Are A Changling Too Seriously”, and I stand by the points made by him. Other then that nitpick, the episode is great overall, and Thorax is one of my favorite characters.

Same here. They kind of rushed the ending. If they had at least shown Cadence and Shining Armor exchange guilty, shamed looks with each other during Twilight's speech or after it, then putting on the welcoming smiles afterwards as they realize Twilight is right, that would have worked out much better than simply going from distrustful glares the last time they are on screen to welcoming smiles the next when they approach Thorax.

The return of Queen Chrysalis and her army is seemingly imminent for the S6 finale, unless the MLP staff decides to throw a curve ball and use a completely different plot(but I'm confident that this changeling arc is gonna happen, let's not kid ourselves). I didn't expect to see the Crystal Empire again until the finale, but I'm not complaining; it's great to see Cadence, Shining Armor, Flurry Heart and Sunburst again!😄 Spike has been absolutely exemplary in this season so far. He's been very helpful to Starlight in the premiere, he forged an alliance with Ember, who is the lord of the dragons and now he has befriended Thorax(a changeling)! Y'know, this episode kinda reminds me of "The Lion King 2." If you think about it, there are some similarities between their plots. Spike's ballad was another tear jerker for me, it was so beautiful and had a great message. Overall, this is another special episode of S6 in my book, 10/10.🙂 Awesome reaction Applegeek, well done!

Thanks! Yeah, I really find it hard to complain about anything in this episode. If I have one gripe, it's the ending that felt a bit rushed, especially wish Cadence practically shoving Flurry Heart into Thorax's face. That seemed a bit too much of a sudden turnaround. But the song pretty much negates that. XD

Regarding the helmets, are you sure? I just looked back at the S6 premiere, where Shining Armor was trying to select royal guards for the honor guard for the Crystalling. They all had buzz cuts, and the helmets he threw at them had hair on them separate from the ponies themselves. They were properly color-coordinated with the guards' manes though, and the hair on those helmets could very well be taken from their manes. Their live manes aren't actually sticking up through the helmets though. Can you imagine what their hair would look like when removing the helmets if that were the case? XD In any case, the design is indeed really neat, and yeah, it's at least a nice touch that the manes and helmets have matching colors, as if each guard's mane was used in his own helmet.
