Yes, but since it was an accessibility feature, it was as full-featured and didn't allow easily moving between the two. They've definitely polished it up here with the Apple Intelligence release. Not to mention that double-tap will be able to let you talk directly to ChatGPT in getting questions answered.

If you wanna type, you just hold the power button and type whatever you want. Hey Siri still works therefore if you don’t wanna type, you can just say Hey Siri and tell it whatever you want. Maybe you should look into it yourself? 😅

iOS 18.1 hasn't been released yet. If you signed up to be a Beta Tester you can have the Beta Builds of upcoming Public updates to iOS beforehand. I think the Beta programme is currently on iOS 18.1 Beta 7. The Public and polished version of iOS 18.1 will be available on the 28th of October 2024 for downloading. This will still not have the beefed up version of Siri that runs ChatGPT though. That is coming in next year.

You may need to check what you’ve selected. Even with the update you have to select the feature. I just updated mine 5 mins ago and I have it.

In settings, turn on the alert for Apple Intelligence and you should get a notification shortly after saying you can now use AI. Had to do this myself.

iOS 18.1 is only available in Beta and not an official release. They just released 18.01 today. The official 18.1 could come out later this month, from the rumors I've heard.

If you haven’t already gotten Apple Intelligence, I wouldn’t bother. Yet. It’s currently ONLY available for iPhone 15 pro models and all iPhone 16 models updated to the latest iOS. You have to signup for a waitlist (which, took an hour for me to be “approved”). Also, you can ONLY use it if you have your phone’s language set to English (US). Wait until December when ALL (or, at least most of) the features are released.

Apple Intelligence features will start rolling out on iOS 18.1 which will only be available for download on 28 October 2024. We're currently on 18.0.1 which does NOT have AI features. You can however join the Beta Tester Programme and have Beta builds of the upcoming iOS releases where these features are available. However, as it is a Beta and Apple will be using your data to Test the build, it can be buggy. So, if you don't want this just be patient and wait for the official public release.

Have you tried using Gemini Live? I switched from Samsung S22 Ultra to iPhone 16 Pro and this is one feature I'm sorely missing. You can have full blown conversations with Gemini Live and it will feel like you're talking to another person. I ended up having a chat to Gemini about Lord of the Rings for 50 minutes straight one morning in the traffic on my way to the office using Android Auto.

Samsung has had it for many months already. These basic functionalities are a must. I wish that voice typing in Iphone was at least a bit as good as the Google Keyboard in all languages. I have difficult time voice-typing - iphone makes so many mistakes in Polish or in English as well. I wish that one day iphones would be actually good and catch up with the android.

I'm from South Africa and recently switched to iPhone. iOS don't have my native language so I have to use SwiftKey to even be able to type in my native language. SwiftKey works 100%, but sometimes I wish there was an Apple Keyboard available instead. To me the voice typing works pretty well when I use English.
