I agree. Given its similarity to "not like us" it also can serve as a less controversial alternate to switch to (although he'll probably still do some of not like us). Plus, with the "turn the tv off" chant, he can still kinda come off as defiant. And of course, whip up the crowd with mustaaaaard

one of the things that doesn’t get talked about enough is how kendrick fosters his relationship with the listener. kendrick has spent a decade now ensuring that the listener receives the best version of him and he’s prided himself on that. when u see a kendrick drop, u stop everything you’re doing to listen because he has worked so hard to earn that trust from the listener and i think THAT is what seperates him from everyone else.

I know a lot of y’all depend on lyric sites like Genius, but you need to accept they are not 100% accurate. On Tv OFF, he is NOT saying turn THIS Tv off. He is saying TURN HIS TV OFF. First verse says Hey turn HIS TV off. Ain't with my type activities? Then don't you get involved. We know HIS = Drake and anyone else like Wayne or angry Drake fans who said they won’t watch. Turn HIS Tv Off!!!
@fizzychizzy
@fizzychizzy Ай бұрын
YES. He basically saying to the naysayers that they are going to have to turn their TV off cause he is coming through regardless so they should just look away. I think this is cemented in the final line when he says that he is coming to NO with that LA swag yelling Mustard. He coming through as himself. If you don't want to see it, turn that TV off. You have a problem with him doing the superbowl in NO, well turn your TV off.

I grew up during the Pac & death row Era. the west vs east battle mixed with bad owners like suge & diddy and the death of pac & biggie broke the world of hip hop hearts apart. I resonate with KDot & tde because it really feels like the Resurrection of pac to me. KDot & TDE is the completion of that Era…. They revived & united the west coast like it was supposed to be in the 90s. This is hella nostalgic to me. It brings this 40 year old back to those days and I’m hella loving it! Thank you Hip Hop!

He brought the Cali sound we wanted but made no concessions, it still feels like a Kendrick album despite feeling a little new and dangerous. I don't give Kendrick success to Drake. I think this was always going to happen. Check everybody in Kendricks' past. They saw it before it happened. I don't think that many were not oblivious to his rising. If everybody was telling Drake way before Not Like Us to leave the man alone. They knew! It's like a teacher motivating you. If I'm destined, all I need to do is stay focused. Just because a deer runs out in the road and I hit it doesn't make me a better hunter. I was a better hunter regardless. I look at it as child play. Any idiot could have done that he stood still in the middle of the road. When you have never flexed those muscles before, why would you battle me? I'm combat ready. I grew up in a war zone. Too early to call “GNX” classic, but could be trending that way depending on the staying power of some of these singles.

@@AwakenedGodsChannel nah he is right amazing album but music listeners of today gotta let things sit and build for them to get certain labels. just like people are quick to call am artist a goat because they are having hot moment nah let things blossom first. beautiful album either way time will tell.

It’s not about the staying power of singles. It’s simply the quality of the music.

True. For me it's the reverse of how most people feel about the album. I like some tracks on the album and currently put it last in his catalog but that might change with time. Just like someone who thinks it's one of his best could think otherwise as time goes by. We just have to let time do its thing.

Kendrick has always been big! This thing about attaching his success to Drake is weird. It’s just that now Kendrick is spoken about more.. and more expectations are on him.. and he’s on top while most rappers aren’t as popping. So, what they should say is Kendrick is more outside more than he’s ever been.. but that man has always been a big deal!

It’s speaks volumes that all those artists Ebro mentioned never went on Hot97 for an interview because the station wasn’t on the label’s payroll 👀

Kendrick had 5 yrs of gathering info and writing schemes rhymes and concepts on Drake. Drake was makin records every year about bullshii. Once it was battle time Drake was pretty much battling a ghost.

One tidbit about Nadeska's mention of how we talked about there being no rap number ones last year, Meg was the first rap artist with a number 1 in 2024😅 love that for her! And Pandora wasted no time peddling J Cole old mistake into my playlist yesterday. Lol. I don't even listen to j cole

I understood J Cole’s absence before this podcast series. Off rip it helped me understand that I don’t need to see the people that I hold in high regard in the entertainment business’s lives all the time. Cause I felt the same as Nedeska a little but ended up taking it for what it is.
