I had a Dad that thought just because I was a girl, did not mean I could not learn to protect myself. He taught me all the things you would teach a boy (actually, I was supposed to be a boy - SURPRISE DAD!). So, when my husband hit me, I decked him, kicked him as I stepped over his prone body and never looked back.

We had a guy like Luke that did this to our cousin. When my uncle found out he was physically abusing his daughter, he called all the men in the family. We went to his house, dragged the douche out of their house beat the living hell out of him. He called the cops on us but when they heard what he did they looked the other way. We dragged him out of the house again and continued to beat him till he couldn't move. He begged my uncle everyday for forgiveness. To this day we don't know where the douche ran off to. Hopefully he hasn't put his hands on another woman.

Luke didn't change after getting married. He just hid his true self.
@citadelofwinds1564
@citadelofwinds1564 Жыл бұрын
Spot on. These people put on an act until after the wedding. Too many men think the marriage licence is a certificate of ownership and gives them licence to abuse the wife. Some men don't even wait for the ink to be dry on the marriage licence. I knew one woman whose new husband tried to rape her on their wedding night to show her show's the boss (in his words). She fought him off and managed to escape. When she told the marriage celebrant about it, he tried to convince her to go back to the husband, because it was her "duty" to "obey" and "serve" her husband. I suspect he was afraid that it would somehow impact on his own reputation if a woman wanted to end a marriage even before it really begun. Needless to say she did divorce the would-be abuser. The kicker is that the monster was hiding behind the facade of a cleancut, blond, friendly-seeming "nice" guy. I went to the wedding and had a chance to observe how he interacted with people, and he would charm them with ease. So I can imagine that if the woman had later tried to tell those people what a monster he really was, they would flat out refuse to believe her because of that convincing facade.

It really shows the malfunction in Luke's mind and those like him in that he really saw nothing wrong with what he was doing. It really makes one question how someone can end up being such a person.

What's truly scary is that some women would have believed Luke's pleas at the end and gone back to him. Where he actually likely would have kept good on his word, for a while, until the first rough patch where he would have immediately reverted back to his old ways. Having a lifeline like Luke's mother is SO important for abuse victims!

My friend was married to a man like this. She worked, but he took her entire salary from her every month. He wouldn't give her any money for any reason. She had to give him a list of things she needed, even down to her extremely intimate items. He would buy everything. My friend said he also used to suddenly turn on her and beat her up for no reason. One day, she was taken to hospital unconcious bleeding from her nose, ears, and mouth. When she regained consciousness in the hospital, she realised that she had to leave him. A man like this never changes, he just gets worse. I am glad Emma's mil believed Emma and helped her.

Onions sweetie onions. My mentor taught me it's like a onion. We peel off a layer & hope it's past us, but then we discover there's a new layer that makes us cry all over again. Please realise that each layer( long cycles) is smaller than the last one was.eventually things like these stories, movies etc will one day no longer be triggers as much as they are now. My mentor had me start watching cheezy old horror movies to start.( the black & white ones at first) most have women as the helpless victims being attacked by monsters, blobs, aliens, when they no longer triggered me I advanced to more extreme ones, bit by bit. It really did help. It's called desensitizeing.. it helps to reduce your ptsd attacks. In my case I need a service dog for my medical conditions, he also helps with my ptsd, and when I have anxiety or panic attacks. He also makes me feel safer, & unconditional love. I have shed so many tears into his fur he had to learn how to swim.🤣🤣🦮 I hope you heal to the fullest and find joy in life again. Sometimes, just stop and think how happy life is just to be free. To eat what you want. To not have to clean or be hurt. (Whatever was done to you) I also kept a journal & wrote everything I accomplished. So when I felt I wasn't healing, doing anything because depression was devoring me. I could read what I did every day(dishes, job hunting, socialization etc ) and felt better. A good mentor or a therapist really can help. & there are places that won't charge you for it. I'm proud of you, don't give up, your worth it. No matter what they/he said, made you believe

Jealousy of my cat, no friends allowed, but all her friends were the only company I was allowed to have. She was violent and controlling. I finally snapped, and threw her out. I also never got around to putting her name in the lease either. I have lived alone since. Maybe one day I’ll learn to trust my own judgment. But for now, I’m happy it’s just me and my cat. The conversation she is having with him shouldn't be happening. Not unless she's in a truly safe place, which his mother's home won't be. That restraining order isn't worth the paper it's written on. Unfortunately, abuse victims are unable to do that. They break the person down psychologically, then physically. At the beginning of the video, the seeds were being planted - "I'll keep you from being lonely." Sweet and innocent on the surface, but knowing what the video was going to be about due to the title and thumbnail, I could read what he was REALLY saying: "You won't need anyone else, I'll be there, you can rely on me alone." That's his way of making him seem like the only one he can trust. Again, normally an innocent statement becomes manipulative. Then, once they're away from ANY support, he'd start building it up and up. Ever heard that if you put a frog in boiling water it'll jump right out, but if you put it in water that's a decent temperature and slowly heat the water, the frog won't even realise it's being BOILED ALIVE? Yeah, that's what happens with abuse victims. In this case, the woman was starting to lose herself - she's still trying to be strong but feels helpless, you can tell in what she's saying that she's beginning to become pacified. She was so lucky she had ONE contact available, most victims don't even have THAT, and the fact it was Luke's MOTHER, she was also lucky she wasn't a 'no not my angel' type, or the type to believe every word he says because 'he's my son'.

I have responded to cases of domestic violence. It does take sheer willpower to keep myself from ramming a large bore needle into a certain body part, both male and female. I do make sure to give the abuser a very cold look at their backs. I hope they get a shiver of fear at least. It is much less common, but women can be abusive too. They get the same look and same desire from me too.

Great work you do! I had to give your comment a like JUST BECAUSE you recognise female abusers as much as male abusers! I mean, you SAY it's much less common, but with how few people actually BELIEVE that women can abuse anyone, there's no way to know how many people are subject to them. It goes from "OH CRAP HE HIT HER!" to "Oh... she hit him..." I mean, people have done ACTUAL EXPERIMENTS on this - men get tackled and women get cheered!

Very sad this brings to light. Domestic violence either physical or emotional and verbal is harmful to the victims. And it goes both ways too. There are actual help out there but hard for some victims to get to because of these dominating significant others, husbands and wives. So glad to hear the mother in law was on the victim's side.

I second that! If you can buy the book "The Gift of Fear " by Gavin De Becker, you can read about a similar situation where a detective warned a woman about returning to her abusive partner that he would be investigating her murder. Those words made her think long and hard, and she left that horrible partner and took her children with her.

I lived through 6 years of abuse from my older brother starting at 6 and ending at 13 when he was kicked out of the house for what he did to my younger sister. Being cussed at and getting beat up any time he got mad was the normal everyday occurrence. He threatened to kill me and make it look like an accident when I was 7 and when I told my father about it, all he said was, "You shouldn't talk like that." Growing up on a farm meant that he had plenty of opportunities to carry out his threat. After being nearly run over twice in 2 days I realized that he was not just threatening, he had nearly done it. I still have flashbacks and nightmares from 50 years ago. I've learned to live with them. To this day I can still feel a tire rubbing my back as I was trying to roll out of the way. Victims of abuse don't really get over the trauma. They just learn how to live with it.

Do what Emma did. Do not fall for the begging, apologizing and the sweet "I love you" cause guess what? Its all lies. It may seem ok for a little while but the pattern will start again. You do one thing and bang the cycle starts again. If you can keep a record, do so. There are many places now that will help women get out of a horrible relationship. They are now starting to do the same for men (well they are here in some parts of Australia). There are animal shelters and vets that do take in emergency housing for domestic violence cases. Get to a shelter that will help protect you. You do not deserve what is happening to you, no matter what your partner says. You do not deserve to be belittled, physically assulted, s**ually assulted, isolated, have your finances taken away, be constantly harrassed and stalked. You are not the problem and until you realise that and that you don't need to stay with them, this cycle will continue. If you gave kids and/or pets, RUN. Take them with you and get your animals and yourselves to a secure shelter. If you have devices that are being constantly tracked, lose them (but only do this just before fleeing). Have a plan and don't mention at all to your partner that you are leaving. This increases your chances of serious injuries or even death (telling them that is). The person you might of known or used to know is no longer that person. Do not give them multiple chances. It won't change anything

This was so hard to listen to. What's more, it's sad that so many people can relate to a story like this (including me) An abusive partner doesn't start out that way - they pick their targets and slowly break down their victim until they feel trapped with no way out. I grew up in an abusive family so naturally, my first serious relationship was abusive. I broke the cycle and have been abuse-free for many years. I had a lot of help from a women's shelter and they helped me rebuild my life. Not only that, they helped me see the red flags before it was too late. If anyone is being abused, please call your local police and find out where you can get to safety and support.

Sweetie, what you are going through is typical of what a battered woman experiences. Their goals ( your husband’s) is to alienate you, abuse you both physically, emotionally as well as financially. Had you not been able to get away, he would have succeeded in you becoming the perfect slave for him. I shudder to think what he would have done to you,and by the grace of the help from your MIL you are out of his clutches. Pat yourself on the back. What you did took courage. Go to counseling with a therapist well verse in victims of domestic violence. You’ve already started your path to shred the ties to him. You will get better and unfortunately due to the abuse wiser. Don’t blame yourself as you did not know beforehand how he would be. Wish you the best life. You will overcome this.

I may not have suffered physical abuse but I sure as hell was emotionally, financially, and most importantly FINANCIALLY abused by both my ex and his mother. I had no sense of identity, just about every dime of my paycheck taken for "rent and utilities", expected to save despite being physically disabled and the only one working. I could NOT finish listening to this when the piece of scrummy crap started begging to be taken back. Worst possible mistake I could've made was staying with him during one particular incident and moving across the country AWAY FROM MY FAMILY! Thank the gods I used the first opportunity to get the hell away. I am SO relieved she was able to rely on his mother for help when she managed to get the hell out of dodge. I still won't know the outcome of this since I refuse to finish.

I dealt with this for over 10 years because I had children, he and his family kidnapped my children. It took me 7 months to find them and get them away from him but afterwards I was free... He passed away in 2010 and not a one of his children cared because of what he'd put us all thru. My daughter will be 40 next week, she was 3 when it all happened and it still effects her to this day. 😢😢

It's amazing what children can remember about their childhood... even if your daughter doesn't remember WHAT happened, the feelings stayed. The first few years of a child's life are so critical, in every way possible. I did a Childcare Level 3 course, and it was made clear that the first few years can have a VERY large influence on children as they get older, it's the best time for them to learn, and form bonds and attachments, and they won't like someone who hits them.

Reminds me clearly of my ex (now deceased), but I didn't have a mother or mother-in-law who would back me up...my mother said "you made your bed, now lie in it" and my mother-in-law wrote me a letter saying "blood is thicker than water". My father was in hospital dying of cancer, so I did not bring the issue to him. I am 64 years old, and there is not a day where some aspect of my ex's abuse, verbal or physical, does not come to mind even after 43 years. It is a never-ending mental road, and one must just make it one's life's mission to seek better times ahead, treasure calm and peace and see the best in people (while being aware). Therapy can help if you have a good therapist. Rebuild your life and keep busy with happiness.

This one made me cry. Been there. But I left as soon as he changed. I refused to be his victim. Sadly, a restraining order does not really stop a person like that. You often have to disappear from them. As soon as she got away she should have transferred the money out of that bank to another. She could have canceled her credit cards and got new ones and put some protection on her accounts. Or closed them to open new ones if possible. and vanished. People like him are crazy and they know their behavior is unacceptable so they hide it. And, just like in this story, they can easily manipulate others to think you are the problem.

The situation with my mom and dad was like this, except that mom would lie to the police about what dad 'did to her' and that me and my sister were 'just kids and don't know what we saw'. It's a sad yet brutal reality that police don't listen directly to the abused and then speaking to the abuser, not expecting who is lying and just going with it. This scenario seems fictional, but this very well can happen and it sucks to not feel validated with your claims. I bet she felt that way and will have PTSD from not just the abuse but the lack of action from police.

I hope she finds someone that treats her with the love & respect she deserves & is nothing like how her ex was behind closed doors. I wonder what her ex-husband is doing? He's been disowned by his family, probably got a criminal record for domestic abuse so might not go well at work especially if everyone finds out what he's really like due to charges & his mom saying something. To top it all off he's likely broke cause all his money went towards legal fees, replacing any money he possibly stole while holding all OP's money captive(wouldn't put it past him), compensation for emotional damages & alimony. This guy is broke, divorced, abandoned by everyone(for good reasons) & everyone knows he's a monster. I guess in a sense he has what his wife had(no one to believe/cut contact, no money & all alone, possibly feeling trapped by what happened) but unlike her there's no abuse(maybe some verbal abuse if he tries to interact with people that know) & he can go where he wants & do what he wants mostly
