Not just a 1000hrs of flight time but 1000hrs in a "high performance jet aircraft". This pretty much excludes everyone except military fighter pilots. You also need an engineering or medical degree not just a technology degree.

I wanted to apply, but after going through NASA’s list and requirements; are like you have to be super perfect genius, have degrees that are very expensive and plus other educational stuff. As for the training, the time needed for preparation, all the physical preparation, that is totally fine with me I love it, but for the previous stuff, like hell impossible they won’t allow an average poor Joe. I understand, however they still need people from so many areas and fields to cover for construction, agricultural aspects, and many positions like on Earth, but right now, their requirements are not or will not permit me to work on Mars or Moon. Maybe if I reincarnate by being giving a chance to be human and be born into a family with good financial means that can pitch in and belonging to many prior military programs as well to be even being look at. I will die with a dream in this life time, but I’m happy for those going in the near future. That’s if we don’t end us with these 3 war world and beyond all these threat we see and hear about.

From my understanding you can get corrective eye surgery. From NASAs website "As of September 2007, the refractive surgical procedures of the eye, PRK and LASIK, are now allowed, providing at least 1 year has passed since the date of the procedure with no permanent adverse after effects."

NASA should really leave the T out of STEM for the astronaut application process. If you read the list of qualifying degrees in the posting on USA jobs it excludes degrees in technology. This includes engineering technology and aviation technology, nursing and others.

My dad was in the study of a few hundred men that were put through a lot of tests to make sure senior John Glen wouldn't die on his trip in his later age. He made it to the final stage!, so I guess I could be an astronaut now that I have reached the age he was then! ;- )

I've always dreamed of being an astronaut. But today I'm 43 years old and I have smoked cigarettes for nearly 35 years. Got any room for a guy like me? Can an older man of less than ideal Health go to space? If you intend to grow an off Earth economy, regular working folks such as myself will need to provide the skilled labor you require. There will be jobs in space that the keyboard Warriors will not be able to do, and Elites would refuse to do. This obviously necessitates the need to use folks like myself to fulfill these duties.
