The reason the cue ball goes to the right is because of the way it bounces off the rail with the respective spin. The cue ball bounced off the rail with left spin as well, but the spin brought it back. That’s the point.

I agree those snooker players are amazing and their mechanics probably are definitely better overall and I wish my stroke was as good as theirs but that's what most grew up playing. If that's what I grew up playing I would probably have developed the skills to play that as I'm very hand eye coordinated. I also can draw the ball from the length of the table away all the way back it definitely takes a smooth powerful stroke. Chris melling has effortless power he has aling bridge for me I can't use that long of a bridge. It's easier to build up speed through the cue with a longer bridge and easier to see to aim as well it's like a gun a long barrel is easier to aim that a short barrel. I have only ever even shot on a snooker table one time and it was only like 20 shots when I was in Vegas. But pool here is definitely tough I actually think straight pool is the best game and I would love to have 3 cushion billiards tables around here

If you watch carefully, the white ball hitting the green balll point is different. Doesn't matter what spin you give. If you hit the green ball exactly on the center, it will go in the pocket. However, if you hit the green ball even the slightest to the right side, the green ball will bounce out.

This effect is real and called throw, it happens when the cue ball imparts spin to the object ball, in this instance, left hand side cue ball spin imparts right hand side spin to the object ball making it roll down the cushion rather than catching and being deflected

When you apply right spin on the cue ball you’re deviating its trajectory to the left. That’s why you see the cue ball hitting the cushion and then hitting the green ball off center. So when you give it left spin the cue ball won’t hit the cushion and the shot will be straight. However if you apply too much left spin the cue ball will hit the green ball on its right half as well.

I think the video is great for beginners. The video shows that stroking the cue ball in this matter will make it bounce off the rail (since he is striking the ball downward it bounces up into the rail, a concept not thoroughly explained in the short), showing a good way to adjust for this by using the English towards the rail. Showing the range of English options used to miss and make help draw connections to that concept. Dr. Dave Billiards has a video covering the physics in greater detail with a diagram on his channel.

I've known this trick from playing and experimenting with side spins, the spin close to the cloth makes the ball "grab" the cloth and preventing it from going away from the cloth... It also works with angles!! But I normally play with the opposite spin, and aim where I almost miss the ball, so it's like cushion first then when the cue ball got off (almost at the same time) it will make the ball keep the distance from the cushion (enough not to bounce off the cushion)... Most people still play like in the video when they have angle, but I think the margin of error is pretty high...
