do you put any other coats on top of the damproof plaster after you've done 2 layers, or can you just paint over it?

It needs skimming with finish plaster once it’s set

Had to use this stuff today as the supplier couldn't get any Renderlite, was just curious to see how you found it, I thought it was awful stuff to use, I don't particularly like using renderlite either but its better than Dryzone 😆

It has its good and bad points , it can be hard to apply and does hang hence why they brought out a quick setting backing. When I say quick setting I use that lightly. It takes 4 hours. Plus points it dries out great and skims up good too.

hi Simon I'm a plasterer by trade I'm currently working on a 1950s property that has an integrated outhouse,, which has had problems with rising damp and penetrating damp the problem being it's single skin brick and inside it's painted brickwork which is very flaky and mortar is crumbling also the brickwork is all shapes,, iv suggested to batten it out in 2x1 to keep it off the wall and staple dpc too back of timbers, any suggestions on what you would do or what would be best to use?, brilliant videos aswell learned loads from your channel 🖒

Jordy Hill hi pal, thanks for watching, glad it’s giving you some value. There are a few options but with it being single brick and flaky paint I would look at putting a cavity drainage membrane on the wall fixed with sealable plugs and channeled into the floor. I would fix treated laths into the sealable plugs and then put insulated plaster boards on, this will give the wall a better u value, use a thermaline board, the 27mm should be ok iv got them on mine. Make sure the laths are vertical so condensation doesn’t form on them. 👍

@@dampsam hi mate yes it's all great content appreciate the time you put in to doing the videos especially when your busy with work yourself🖒 and okay cheers mate I think that sounds like the best soloution really considering how it's built, I will run it by the customer problem he wants to do it cheap as possible so he can sell it as quick, as we both know cheapest is not always the best but we can only advise I suppose their the descision makers, appreciate taking the time to reply have a good day 🖒

You will need to batten the wall internally with 100x 50mm reassure treated timbers, insulate between the timbers with a product like Dritherm. Then screw insulated plasterboards to the battens, scrim joints and skim. Make sure everything is kept at least 25mm off the floor

Hi Sam, how soon after hacking off and treating the wall can you apply dryzone renovation plaster? Also What do you use on brick for prep before plastering please
@dampsam
@dampsam 6 ай бұрын
You can plaster straight away, prep of the background would depend on what’s being applied Dryzone’s plaster could be applied straight to the masonry but I would check with their technical department

Bit concerned about the electrical cables. Building Regs state that cables should have a protective covering if they are less than 50mm below the finished surface

Good point 👍

The Building Regs don’t state that at all. The regs just state that the installation must be safe. All the extra waffle comes from various trade association publications. And even then the 50mm mechanical protection point is where the cables are not in a zone, whereas those cables are in the zone above the socket.

@@sam.p12345 Normal practice to channel cap or trunking(if you are a good sparky). Plus its not secure to wall is it. only can see one clip in wall!! rest is hanging - That's a NO - NO

@@georgelemons Yeah, it’s not perfect, but nothing is. A lawyer could say that it’s his standard practice to read every single term and condition of a contract before signing, but you don’t. A mechanic could say that every morning he does a 100-point check in his car before driving to ensure it’s safe, but you don’t. A nutritionist could say they never eat processed food or drink alcohol to avoid harming their body, but you do. Point is that there’s plenty of points of good practice that you (and everyone) ignores every day, unclipped cables really don’t matter. Sparkies seem particularly bad though for trying to make out that joining the blue to blue cables and brown to brown cables is mystically complex and skilled, and that any insignificant deviation for some trade association’s publication is horrifically dangerous.

@@sam.p12345 But the sparky had a choice. Easy 5 minute job to secure a cable in place or to cap. At the end of the day he couldn't be bothered - No pride in the job. What else couldn't he be bothered about on the job??
