I read the title of this video and was like "but why would you want to...?", but this sounds like a great method! Both the gel base and the nail glue have the same main ingredient, cyanoacrylate, so you're basically making a dip powder sandwich between your nail and the press-on. You could probably use the base gel for both layers, but it might be hard to get thin enough layers, and would probably take longer to dry. (The base gel is formulated to be thicker so you have more control while applying, while the glue is formulated to be thin and runny and dry faster.) I'll bet that's also why they don't recommend adding the activator. The ethyl acetate in the activator hardens cyanoacrylate, so it would also make the glue dry really fast, likely before you get a chance to position the nail properly. Without the activator, the nail glue can soak into the powder layer, just like the base soaks up the powder. I would guess that that improves adhesion and might improve wear: the three meld into one sticky layer, instead of applying glue to an already-hardened layer and introducing a fault line. You could try adding the activator to the underside and around the edges. I don't know if it would seep in far enough to make much of a difference, but I'd guess that hardening just the edges would help. (That said: I'm not a nail tech. I have been doing dip nails since 2014 and have read a lot, but this is not a pro opinion.) I'd love to hear how this compared to when you applied it with acrylic: wear time, removal, etc.

This is the best comment I've ever seen, from a non-nail tech, as far as knowing the active ingredient in any nail glue. Cyanoacrylate. I'm a nail tech and I've seen so many press-on tutorials and questions about nail glue, super glue, etc. Essentially, they all have the same active ingredient. I wear press-ons and I literally use the dip powder base gel for my glue. They last until I take them off.

I have done this method and I’ll tell you.. IT WORKED!! I put on a set of nails using this method exactly how you did and it lasted me 3 weeks!!! Took off set I made for myself on this past Sunday, 5/28 thank you for sharing this!!!

I bought 8 pair of the press ons nails, only thing that I didn’t like was that I can’t wear any of the short styles, only the medium or long lengths. I bought one pack of the short almond design and the largest thumb nail was too small for my nail bed. Last thing is the nail glue that comes with them takes so so long to dry

I did this method and it feels like I am wearing an acrylic set I had done at a salon I added a step though I used 2 coats of clear builder gel on top that gives it that acrylic finished nail look I loooove this method 😊❤🎉

I would guess that the seal protect would lower the adhesion level, hence why they're not using it! This method might have finally convinced me to try press on nails!!!!!

This method convinced me to try press on nails. Only differences i did2 dos on my nail, activated it and used the dip base as my glue to apply the nails instead

Isopropyl alcohol will get rid of the white around your cuticles, and help you get rid of excess glue before it dries however try to keep it off press on cause some cheaper fake nails it'll leave a residue and fade the design

Honey you got to stop using alcohol with nail glue it's going to turn it white every time if you want to remove it get you some acetone nail polish remover and be very careful with it because it will melt the nails
