The grainy finish is very good. They put an aggregate in it so that happens intentionally. It makes is less slippery to walk on when it's wet. so it's a safety feature for oil spills or water and such. Nice job on the floor.

I’ve done this in two of my buildings and had the same result in one. The sections that are different colors, those spots, tech support told me is caused by the cement being wet and not given enough time to fully dry. I don’t agree, the floor is radiant heated and I had it on to dry quicker. The second building I had the floor polished smooth first and the finish is like a mirror. Nice job on yours though, thanks for sharing!

Garage Built Hondas it was a learning experience for me. I also saved about 10k doing it myself, granted my two buildings are much larger (150x200x20 and 150x300x20). However, after a year I’m not to pleased with the longevity. My buildings store ag tractors and equipment and maybe it’s the weight or heavy traffic, I don’t know but the finish has cracked and flaked off in sections. I’m contemplating refinishing or having the floors polished smooth again and sealing them. I do prefer the gloss grey look.
@GarageBuiltHondas
@GarageBuiltHondas 4 жыл бұрын
I love the look/color also. Currently my floor is in great shape with a few scratches from my floor jack and jack stands but nothing larger than that. It's pretty much just a storage shed for my cars so I think itll hold up fairly well for a decent amount of time. I'll probably make an updated video this summer to show how its holding up as a lot of people seem to want to see it.
@zfilmmaker
@zfilmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
Garage Built Hondas yeah I’d like to see that video too. I’m curious to see others experiences. Anyway I have the same problem from floor jacks and jack stands. The reason I said weight or heavy traffic (in/out) maybe cause for failure, I have two sections where I had big hydraulic oil spills, one that sat overnight and there’s no issues where they were.

zfilmmaker Most of those liquid products will ‘bubble like’ due to too high moisture content in the concrete slab. It is wise to read PDS - product data sheet. They should leave it until next day and install when temperature start dropping down.

Thanks for the video as I am considering different types of flooring for my 3 car garage. Paint is one and the other is the plastic parts you snap together like Lego toys. Unlike many KZbinr you didn't have any music and that was GREAT. This was a learning "class room" experience. Most of the times music disturbes the true experience. You spoke clearly, gave good examples and the video was clear. Great job. I custom made cabinets in our new garage and I am a perfectionist and I don't think I could stand to see the grains, bubbles and blemishes on the floor like your garage ended up with. Perhaps it was the new concrete. I think someone once said for the concrete to be cured the process may take 6 months. I first got the idea of Rustoleum Rock Solid was from watching the Rennch you tube channel. Michael did the same color floor but he didn't show the details of the work like you two did. I think he is renting the house/garage and it looks like the house was built in the late 70's early 80's - at that age you KNOW the concrete is cured :-) His garage was total smooth and shiny...it looked very good. I think you two probably did a better prep job so it must be new concrete vs old concrete for the final results.It sounds like your 1,000' garage is going to be used for storing and perhaps working on cars so maybe you don't care about a super perfect finish; I hope that is the case. I am saying all of this not to be insulting just observations. "A garage without a Porsche is just a dark hole" - Walter Rohrl - Porsche Development

A few tips: 1. U should've gotten a couple pairs of cleats for ur shoes. 2. U should've used a torch to get out the air bubbles. 3. U should've de-shedded the rollers by wrapping ur hands with the sticky side of tape & cleaned the extra fibers off the rollers first. 4. U should've taped down some tarps outside of the garage to keep the dust at bay even when it was all drying.

I used the same color Rustoleum product on a garage floor about 18 years ago. It came in a gallon can and included colored chips that you sprinkle on the epoxy before it dries. It looked great and was an easy application as long as I moved quickly and did’t let it set up before all of it was applied. My only issue was that eventually the finish didn’t hold up from where hot tires sat on it from our daily drivers. Do you know if the product formula and longevity has changed much over the years?

LAST JUNE (2019) --- I did the rock solid on my NEW floors - I etched with muratic acid then pressure washed - did the residue test and then PRESSURE WASHED AGAIN... waited 3 days and put down the plastic to ensure it was dry - did the residue test then applied the coating - my dad dropped the tractor scrape blade from about 3 feet onto the floor a week later they did not even mar the floor... I have since dropped heavy sharp slabs of steel, jack stands, acids, lacquer thinner and even paint stripper on the floor and it has not damaged the floor or chipped it off... I did my floors half and then the other half... I dropped a blob on the undone half and tried to scrape it up prior to doing that half... with a floor scraper it popped the floated concrete surface with the epoxy blob. You really can't ask for any better adhesion.

Broom for heavy stuff, use vacuum for silt, mandatory! A touch of vinegar and water great to neutralize acid as well. Also, much easier to buy muriatic acid liquid and mix in bug sprayer with water, if floor clean you mist on until you see light foaming, now you know it’s etched

Those dark grey spots are called "orange peel" in this application it is probably because the etching compound was not completely removed. If you watch several other videos recommend that you etch and then re-wash using a shopvac or renting a floor cleaner to actually remove the water rather than count on the garden hose pushing everything out. Turned out pretty good looking all thing considered. I'm curious how it has held up.

Gotta do something with the floor in my new space, i feel like setting up a garage is so much more time consuming and I’ve been so busy with work it’s hard to find the time to make a video and show my progress. I can’t help but notice that Tahitian green crx 🤤 did you ad any new cars to your collection?

It really is time consuming setting up a garage. I still have a handful of things I'd like to finish within the next couple of months. I haven't, I've bought/sold a couple for profit lately but nothing I've kept.

those "areas" that dried differently are called "Fisheyes" in the painting industry. It's a result of the floor not being prepped as well as the rest that dried consistently.
@moluesar1

So basically what you forgot to do or you didn't do it's to let the moisture get out of the concrete before you sealed it that's why you got that results what are you can do if you want it you could do a quicksand and then give another coat
@GarageBuiltHondas
@GarageBuiltHondas 4 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Thanks for that. I thought it would have been. After washing it we did the application 2 days later and our temperature during that time was 90 degrees outside. I had thought the temp would've definitely get the moisture out. Either way, I'm happy. It's getting abused already and its probably not as slippery with the way it turned out. Once it gets really beaten up I'll probably clean it and sand it down and apply another layer of coating, but that might be a few years from now.

It looks like most jobs with this product have the same finish. The fibers are from the concrete since it was fiber infused for more strength. As for the rollers, those are the included ones from the packet, they are foam and didn't come apart one bit.

Will that garage blow over with high winds? Do you do something to inside the walls for insulation? You will need ear protection for hard rains. Best of luck.
@GarageBuiltHondas
@GarageBuiltHondas 4 жыл бұрын
No. It's rated for 140mph winds. There's no insulation yet. I've worked in the garage once when it's raining, a random storm rolled through. It's loud but not ear protection loud. If I can help it, I choose not to go outside when it's raining.

I used this stuff about 13 years ago and it looked great for the first 5-7 years and then started to pull up. By the tenth year, it looked pretty bad. Had to have it all sanded off and went with professional epoxy with dual coating. I went with the chips...big mistake. Any time you drop a small screw, but, bolt, nail, it disappears in the chips. Next time I will go solid color.

Should have coated that slab before setting structure: the acid will hurt galvanized coating and you are going to get early frame rot. The money you saved on diy is... going back into steel, to save the structure. That package has advice about reactive metals [iron, zinc, aluminum] for a reason. Start saving now
