Applying to Dental Hygiene School - Part 1 - Tackling the Prerequisites

Welcome to Part 1 of my journey applying to Dental Hygiene school. Today I am talking about the steps I had to go through prior to submitting my application and the prerequisites I had to complete. Life always seems to happen though, so I talk some about dealing with challenges as you go through this process.

Was it all the classes that expired or just the math or sciences that they didn’t accept ? Like what if you took your English and it’s been passed 5 years would they accept that ?

so is it 2 years at a JC then after 2 years of hygiene school??? for the Associates???

Can I continue my dental education after I get my associates degree and apply to get my bachelors and then my master’s in dentistry? What happens if you fail some classes at your community college dental hygiene or ever at a 4 year dental school would they make drop out of the class or school? Should I get all of my pre required class before I apply to a community college dental hygienist program?

The part you mentioned with your daughter made me cry. Your journey resonates a lot with my own. I’m a mother of 2 and wife( not to mention 2 fur babies 🐩) I’m going to school so I can help my family and create more opportunities for us.

Wait so we have to take all of these classes at a college BEFORE applying for the dental program? I am a high school senior and I thought you could take the program and take the other classes also

Trust me you’ll set yourself up for failure and you’ll get kicked out of the program if you fail a class

Yes at my school you need to complete all the required prerequisite prior to applying to the program

I highly recommend doing dual enrollment at your community college and start knocking out your bio, chem, english and electives

Prerequisite is 1 year then get into the program and do 1 year for an associate right?

Haha this semester I’m taking organic chemistry, English 102, A&P2 and microbiology. I’m dying. 🥲

@@jessicamancia8795 it was a lot. My mental health really struggled and I only came out with B’s across the board. So, I definitely don’t recommend doing what I did.
