Hi, aww I’m so glad it’s helped. Good luck with the relocation and school. It’s such a process getting them in but worth it ☺️

Thank you for your video. We are hoping to migrate soon. My concern is the language barrier in public schools. Can you tell me what support was given, if any atall, to help the kids with the language barrier? Other options are international schools are which are too expensive!

Follow up question that wasn't covered. Did the Agrupamento accept your school documents enough to correctly place your children in the perspective grade/program to the age appropriate equivalent from the UK? I assume based on your experience that you would strongly encourage someone immigrating to Apostle the child's documents before leaving your country of origin to have them in hand when going to register the child. Are your children still at the same school they enrolled in during this video? Is there anything that you would update since making this video?
@YogiDavids Жыл бұрын
Hi Shannah, I do have things to add since making this video and I also Interviewed my kids - check the playlist I have Schools Portugal or check these links kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpqoq6icnKx7q68 kzbin.info/www/bejne/joGlYoOGZbZ1m6M The Agrupamento did accept our documents that had to be apostilled and we decided the kids would start a year behind which actually worked perfect because the age group was still the same as what they are ☺️

That is really a bad experience. Unfortunately Portugal’s bureaucracy is many times like that, institutions don’t seem to give you all the information in one go, making you lose time, and other times it seems that different people, that you have to deal with, have different interpretations of what it’s required - very inconsistent. It’s already frustrating for Portuguese people, so it’s probably much worse for those who aren’t used to it. Best of luck.
@YogiDavids2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. And yes so true, I’ve come to realise that Portuguese people become frustrated too, I thought it was just us that found it tough, but after speaking to some parents at the school it seems it’s a problem for everyone 😅
@ppietrap38762 жыл бұрын
@@YogiDavids yeah! Portuguese people don’t like it, but learned to have some patience, though some times people lose it. It is important for your mental health to be somewhat patient and accept that things will take some time and that there will be frustrations. Bureaucracy in Portugal actually used to be much worse. It can be useful to be insisting, in some situations it will speed things up. It also helps if we are more proactive, knowing your rights and obligations beforehand. But try to be as friendly as possible with public servants, you don’t "want" to get on their "bad side".
@YogiDavids2 жыл бұрын
@@ppietrap3876 yes I totally agree with you. I’ve learnt to take a deep breath and just understand that these things take time and are frustrating ☺️ thanks for this advice 😊

@@YogiDavids You’re welcome! If there is one thing where you will easily "bond" with the Portuguese is the frustration/exasperation with Portuguese bureaucracy. lol!

seriously considering relocating our family of 5, three kids under 13. I was going to try to move with my job and work remotely, but it appears to me that I'll have to take a considerable amount of time to get the family settled into an apartment and schools. Can you share advice on how long it took you to get the family settled?
@YogiDavids2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah, it did take a while to get us fully settled but looking back we may have been able to do things quicker if we’d known certain things. It took us 6 weeks to find our rental accommodation and once we had that we could apply to schools. We moved into our rental at the end of December and the kids started school mid February. I think they’d have been able to start sooner if I’d have known what I was doing and where to go. I know one family here who applied for school and their children started the next day, which is amazing. I hope that helps x

where i live, my agrupamento accceptance of children is pretty fast. W´ve got people from India, Nepal, Ukrain, Brasil and many other countries. Maybe you were unliky and got a school with litle experience with foreing students. For what i know, children are accepted and you only need your passport ,residence title and vaccines certificate, all the other stuff can be dealt later.
@feliciaveerasamy27082 жыл бұрын
Hi Jaime. Can I ask which agrupamento you are referring to? Thank you.
@jaimeconceicao2 жыл бұрын
@@feliciaveerasamy2708 it´s in Marinha Grande, near Leiria - Agrupamento de Escolas Marinha Grande Poente

Hi Jaime, yes I was speaking to a lady I met and her Agrupamento got her children into a school on the same day that she applied! I couldn’t believe it! She said the staff were so so helpful and couldn’t fault them! I was so surprised as our experience was awful. It’s good to hear from you too that the acceptance was a fast one 👍🏽

Welcome to Portugal. I hope you all feel at home and that you will be happy in this little corner of Europe. Please do not try to speak Spanish, it is better to speak English or use your children as translators. They are sponges and learn quickly. Be happy. 😊👍

Thank you ☺️ and yes so true they are definitely like sponges, they are doing very well learning the language and are teaching us already ☺️ thank you 😊
