Also from reading the people who do the apprenticeship will be employed by a Healthcare Company (like carers) and that’s why they are getting paid! The only real difference from what I have read is that they are working and earning and is more of a hands on approach which may be beneficial for those who are much more of a visual and practical learner! I myself would do this apprenticeship. And once you graduate as the degree would be provided via a medical university, so they are able to qualify as they do the same exams as someone doing a 5 year course! Since 5 year degree students and the 6 year apprenticeship still has to pass the final exam! I understand your concerns about it could potentially create fear and panic in some patients about this but from my personal point of view the patient is more bothered about getting treated! I mean I could say the same about doctors and the universities they attended such as if a doctor who graduated from Birmingham and a doctor from Oxford! One has more prestige than the other but they both received the same training, just how the apprenticeship doctors would receive the same training as red brick doctors

There’s no saying they’d be titled fy1 doctors. That’s really assumptions. It’s said they’ll have same role as medical students atm. If you wanna assume, assume that they’d be called apprentice students as you said at the beginning of your cons. I’m not a big fan either, but the bias here is so clear.

That is not an assumption. If you go on the institute of Apprenticeships page regarding this there is a heading that explains the title will be a foundation doctor.

@@xxxshivanixxx I did see what you mean. But, that looks like the job title after the apprenticeship. It makes absolutely no sense if they are titled foundation doctor at the beginning of the apprenticeship and then apply into foundation role after 5years of apprenticeship.

It's a degree application which means that they study and work and at the end they get the same degree but they are paid for the work they do such as placement. Furthermore they still have to undertake the foundation training to become a fully licensed doctors, which means that they are no less then the normal doctors .

I’m not entirely sure ! I think they’re planning to launch it in 2023 but even then it hasn’t been confirmed and I don’t really think anything will go ahead until 2024 if I’m completely honest !
