Your channel is by far the best and most entertaining about the Octatrack. I already watched videos of you explaining things that I do not understand a bit yet (my OT is 3 days old) because it was so entertaining and lovely made. Thank you for your content

Thanks a lot for the tips! Your videos are making me less scared of digging into the Octatrack again. I've been using it as a big Digitakt and used the fader mostly for transitions and not as much for variation, so that's something I want to explore more. Setting up templates is definitely the first thing I'm doing next time I use the Octatrack.

Got my octatrack a week ago, which was also the day I started having covid symptoms. Been stuck at home watching your vids and I just wanna say your voice is very comforting :)

Here’s my nice tip: buy your OT a lil buddy that has MIDI in and CC parameters, like a Volca Keys. Set up an arp (choose what key you want it in), P-lock those CCs to some steps, assign them some LFOs and there’s a whole new world of evolving sound that grows and comes to life. Great way to learn about the MIDI side of it. Also: Nord Drum 2 is particularly good if you can find one.

So glad that OT users/learners have your channel to get such excellent content. You are really keeping this beast alive by covering aspects of the OT that at least I avoid. The OT is such an amazing machine but it's so easy to stay away from it, you.... have brought me back to it. Love the complete honesty, humor and intelligence the you bring to so many of my favorite devices. Thanks!

I hear you on the broad strokes. I always get the essential rhythm and melody down before I start going to town mutilating the beats. One thing I notice about a lot of people trying to be producers or beatmakers etc is that they don't want to do the work. What old musicians used to call woodshedding. There are no shortcuts to getting good with a DAW. I bought the Apple Press Logic book and went front to back on that doing every stupid thing in the book. Same for Elektron products. To really rock these things you have to learn all the features and bugs. That said, I did just buy an Octatrack and it's a lot more of a learning curve than the Digitone, Machinedrum or A4!

Haven’t jumped into this video yet but I saw your channel and am hoping it can help me bc I’ve had the octatrack for two years and still can’t figure it out. It’s the least intuitive piece of musical equipment I’ve ever owned. I paid a fortune for this frustration and part of the reason I refuse to give up is it cost so much but man, this thing is confusing!

Same here! Coming from the Digitakt (which I adore, actually) and this approach definitely seems helpful. I'm on my second OT after buying and soon thereafter selling one in frustration. Really appreciate this...

Stereo samples, live resampling/playback, THE crossfader - more/longer memory, 8 record machines in the same moment.. Octadad covered the topic in one of his videos
@cls62004 жыл бұрын
Messy, do you have a video for your live looping/remixing template? Or a video you used that got you up and running well with that? I’m using a pickup machine and assigning to flex tracks to affect them. Any better recommendation? It feels like there must be a more efficient way.

I still have the same opinion that the Elektron products are overpriced, have uggly screens and are designed for Nurds Producers! For that Price I can get a Maschine+ or a Push and Ableton License. And they dictate you their way how they want you to make musik!! why pay a lot of money for a Limited Piece of Hardware?
@lordgeronimo724 жыл бұрын
UGGS are boots, not displays. The producer of “Nurds” is a bit obscure...perhaps Ted Templeman? We can agree totalitarianism is bad, but the OTMK2 SE seems to be quite popular on EBay and Reverb, so I find myself asking as many questions as you... Thank all the sky gods for the Messy Desk, we need a real leader during these trying times

I paid it because its a great multichannel live loop/ live sampler / performance mixer. If you rather want to produce music, i think the machine+ is awesome
