I think, they figured that they had it made ! And corporate greed kicked in. Not enough research in new development, cheap materials, and bureaucratic overhead became to expansive. My grandfather purchased the first massey in 1954 , were still driving Massey tractors. But it's not that quality anymore from the early days.

My dad was an MF mechanic at a dealership. When Massey came out with the 2805. It had a lot of mechanical issues. He said Massey fired a bunch of designers over it. Seems that Massey Ferguson hasn't been the same since. Now owned by AGCO.

This was MF's hay day, soon after this time they lacked vision and R&D. The tractors after the 500, 600, and 2000 range were all poor relations. At the time I was in the UK, always on Masseys. John Deere's 2140 came out with a far superior cab to anything on the market, where I lived JD wiped the market clean, even our local MF dealer been there for years closed down.
