This album ascents with every next song, finishing gloriously with Crushed Embers. Best ending of an album after Doomed Lover in Songs of Darkness....Overall, an excellent album, i can't stop listening to it for weeks now.

I agree with this review...much better album than ghosts of Orion..not close too dreadful hours/songs of darkness/line of deathless king's trifecta..but a welcome addition for the band 7/10 for me

Interesting... Most would say the Great Three of MDB's discography are their first three albums: As the Flower Withers, Turn Loose the Swans, and The Angel and the Dark River. While latter albums have been solid, and there have been some good songs, nothing can touch those first three albums IMO.

@@MiserereMei I bought as the flower withers in 92 and listened too those first 3 albums too death lyrics 100s of plays I think that's why I don't revisit them anymore..I know there great but that second peak with Hamish stands out more for me

For me it's the other way around; I discovered MDB around the time of The Angel and the Dark River, and was captivated by their first three albums (and those of the other Peaceville Three Doom bands). And that captivating doesn't go away, as I listen to them a few times a year, which I don't do with latter albums. But I do have a KZbin playlist with my favourite songs from the latter albums; I just don't listen to them as albums. Maybe I'm just an old geezer 😅
