Dot returns to Walford rather cautiously, getting off the bus and looking around suspiciously, and she visits Ethel in the home. Pat sees her across the square and thinks she's seeing things. Robbie bumps into her in the square and she quotes the bible about looking where he's going. Sanjay has the offer of a good business deal but he will have to raise £5,000, and since he's already tried to get a similar amount for the IVF treatment, there doesn't seem to be any way to get it. Lorraine is looking for jobs and Joe hears her phone one up, and becomes paranoid and suspicious, saying that it's all his fault that she had to come to Walford and give up her real job, and when she leaves the job she will also leave Grant, and he likes Grant, but she was just using him until something better came along. She goes to work and tells Grant she is looking for another job because she can't survive on the wages she gets from the Vic, with Joe and the flat to pay for. He immediately offers her a pay rise. She says it's not the point, she is used to a sales job with a company car and all the perks. Grant says he can't stretch to a car but if she ever wants a bag of peanuts, she can help herself. Peggy is furious when she finds out. Joe is becoming more paranoid and reads a book that upsets him even more and he runs out of the house in tears. Dot visits Ethel and Alex the vicar is there. Dot says she's shocked at how quiet Ethel is, and Alex says she is usually a bit more perky than that, but he's sure that she will improve now that Dot is here, as she is always talking about her. Pauline and Nigel are passing the room and overhear this and go and ask Dot what she's doing here and they say how nice it is to see her and why didn't she come to see them? Nigel insists on driving her home and Pauline chats to her for a while until Nigel has arranged to borrow Grant's car again. Dot tells Nigel she's staying in the hotel, and that Nick has gone to Glasgow. However, she waves goodbye to Nigel from the hotel doorway then sneaks off round to a hovel of a bedsit nearby where she actually lives.
