April Agrees to Move to Boston for Jackson - Grey's Anatomy

After a night of making his case, April (guest star Sarah Drew) agrees to move to Boston with Harriet so that Jackson (Jesse Williams) doesn't have to leave them behind to take over the Foundation. She also admits that she's separated from her husband. At home, Richard (James Pickens Jr.) tells Catherine (guest star Debbie Allen) that it's okay for her to be sad that Jackson's moving across the country, but she tells him what she feels is pride. THIS! I was so devastated when they wrote April out in s14 and especially HOW they did it. I'm glad they brought her back like this and rewrote her ending. No, they didn't explicitly state Japril would get back together, they made it clear they were both understanding of their own misgivings and what caused them to fail, and I think that leads to them returning to each other eventually. The way they did this was perfect to me.

Yes, you can see for like a split second a flash of hope in his face, then you see compassion as he realizes that she really was not happy and he has always wanted her to be happy in the choices she makes for herself. The lingering stare as they held hand when he asks her "you okay?" and she replies " it's hard to say" You can see how she is hurt and embarrassed that she and Matthew did not work out. If she and Matthew would have worked out she would have been absolved from her feelings of guilt.

I can speak for myself how grateful I am for the mature way of giving closure to a character, it gives us the certainty that they are well, happy, in addition to that somehow, they managed to give us everything we asked for ... I think it’s because this could potentially be the last season. Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith, still hasn’t signed on for another season. And yes, she’s not the only main character, and it would probably survive without her, but I think she’s the biggest factor in whether or not the show continues. I don’t know if this is true or where I heard it, but I think Ellen said that if she ever feels like she wants to be done, the should would end as well. Something along those lines. I don’t think that’s true, but who knows.

These two were meant to be since day one at Mercy West. The way he looks at her so amused and smiles after she describes the size of family she wants and she looks at him with that wide eyed innocent smile. Then the way he looked so hurt for her the first time she was fired for letting that woman die. He fell in love with her slowly as their friendship grew and developed. The reason he became so angry with her when she left after Samuel's death is because she is the person that always believed in him even when he didn't believe in himself and he needed her to heal from the loss of his son. April liked him from the get go only that initially she never allowed herself to believe that he could look at her romantically because she did not see herself as attractive enough to be noticed by someone like Jackson, but the feelings were there.

April and Jackson, we finally got Japril. I had a feeling they would end up together. April haunts Jackson as the one who got away. And April needed closure from Matthew as to why she left him at the alter in the first place. When April mentioned coming full circle, she thought she had to with Matthew , but really she is with Jackson. Matthew was just part of the journey. Jackson , I believe, deep down knew he would end up with April. I think he told Maggie that after April married Matthew, that he finally realized what April was talking about in regards to having faith. That April’s faith was something Jackson has a hard time understanding. And now that he finally gets it, it’s too late, he lost April. Even though they don’t actually say anything about their future “together “ it is implied by Harriet, Mommy Daddy. Jackson got his family back!

I really thought April was picking a fight for the sake of fighting again but she really matured being able to admit she was being an ass for once. Yeah Jackson came out of left field but she knew the whole argument that nothing was really keeping her in Seattle since Matthew left but was too proud to admit it. We kinda got hints of it when she kept saying “my “ instead of “our” (referring to her and Matthew) in her counter arguments. I would have hated if Jackson had to leave without Harriet only to find out April’s marriage was over and half her reasoning was moot. Good on the writers for giving both characters growth

I honestly believe if Jesse wasn’t leaving the show and they kept this storyline he would have moved the foundation to Seattle if April said no or go back and forth like Catherine does. To Jackson’s credit before this he probably would have just left like he did with Maggie and him actually having a conversation with April instead of demanding and having a plan to take care of both her and Matthew comes from a place of maturity because if he was truly being selfish he would have fought for sole custody so he could just go but he didn’t. Everything April was saying was valid but like Jackson said working with the foundation is a chance to do it on a wider scale so if her concern was truly her work Jackson’s proposal really didn’t stop anything. His plan allows her to do more just like him. For once he truly thought of everyone and not just himself, it was extremely selfless just like when he essentially gave up his inheritance to right all the wrong Harper did to those victims.

Jackson was offering April the means to increase her reach with what she was doing so instead of helping people in local rural areas she’d have the means and resources to do it for multiple. This is nowhere near what Derek tried to make Meredith do. Plus April had already given up her career as a surgeon to chase this passion. Doing it for the foundation makes it easier for her and she makes more money where Meredith’s work would have potentially suffered and obviously taken a back seat to Derek’s.

Never thought Krista would give us a Japril ending...but she had to cave, I guess. I mean, they could have easily send Jackson off to Boston on his own or have April *and* Matthew come. But she must have realised (or been "forced to" realise by us fans😅👀) how unrealistic, even for Grey's, it was to have Matthew get back together with April in the first place. One just doesn't come back from being left at the altar by going on to co-parent with the dude you were left standing in the barn-church for. And yes, this is not exactly an explicit Japril ending and Jackson and April were like "Our marriage was so f*d up😭😂😪" the night before -Krista throwing in some last digs- ...BUT Harriet calling for her mommy and daddy right there at the ending and the way Jackson and April looked at each other and the talking about new horizons...it was just such a beautifully hopeful and open ending. These two are definitely NOT _closed case_ in my book. So this episode was Japril-endgame enough for me, especially considering that Jackson and April have just been co-parenting besties for a couple of years now -and she was married to Matthew- -and Jackson had his whole serial- -dating shtick going on- Enjoyed it! Loved it! 🥰 Plus, the writing, acting and chemsitry in this episode was just superb (and not just between Jesse and Sarah, who as always delivered above and beyond,)😍😙👌🏼 For me, this was a proper and in character write-off! Kudos to the writing team👍🏼 P.s.: Shonda, can we petty, pretty, pretty please have a Boston spin-off? With some Japril sprinkled on top? 🥺🥺🙏🏼That would be just awesome😬

But I really don't like Hayes and jo , there is no chemistry , there is a possibility of a good friendship/mentorship though with her interest in gynae , plus which other doctors were left to have conversations? Others are either dead or left or have other arcs. Plus the way Hayes was rooting for Meredith , of course he isn't epic love but a healthy blossoming friendship/relationship there, she needs someone who would provide a comforting perspective in her life and he does, subtly every time she needed some guidance he was there to listen.
