The artillery luger with snail drum magazine and shoulder stock has to be one of the nicest firearms ever made along with the broom handle mauser.

I think you could be wrong. Those numbers are punched quite deep and you'd have to grind a lot of material away which would be easily noticed. I'm a toolmaker by trade and there's absolutely no evidence to me that has been ground. You're channel is absolutely brilliant by the way!!!

You've handled this as well as anyone could, I think. I feel bad for the owner. And for the tampered Luger components too. Props to the owner for reacting well and devoting the proceeds of the sales to medical charity

Collecting fakes could be a new segment of the hobby. Even faked, the gun is still real. Maybe stamp "FAKED" on it? (Only if 100% sure).

What a shame to have counterfeit guns. Do not ever destroy them. Even a counterfeit is better than none at all. Just a what to watch out for comparison is priceless.

Documenting the fakes on a video is great, but it is not searchable online. Someone 10 years from now as a potential buyer for that 2xxx serial number 2014 artillery Luger can't just run an internet search on it.

sad news for that owner. I think we have all been taken at some time. The fakes are so good, and there are just so many details in luger collecting to remember it all. Especially at a gun show, where there is little time to decide.

I’m not a Luger collector or even an owner but I must say you do a valuable service for those that do collect or even just anticipate buying but may be uninformed and somewhat uneducated into all the nuances of authentication. Thanks…I found this to be a very interesting and informative video !

Using a machinist radius gauge, you can inspect the receiver where the date is stamped to see if it has been ground down. Maybe you can see more in person, but from this video I would not draw the conclusion that 1914 has been restamped.
