Great Video. I am from Upstate NY. Camped around Still water Lake for 32 years. Love the Adk's

Eight years after you uploaded, here it is in my feed. My party camped at Virgin Timber Landing last year on our second Oswegatchie Traverse. The site looked about the same, so I am glad to say it has not gotten appreciably more degraded anyway. I was prompted to post after seeing you pitch that canvas tent. A bit heavier than what I now carry! But the smell of a canvas tent brings me back to my childhood and younger years when car camping in Vermont and New York. Love it!

As a young man I read all of Calvin Rutstrum's books on canoeing and camping. And I have to say I think if old Cal were alive today he would give you a thumbs up.

Thanks Chuck Robb, I have all of Calvin's books and have re read them many times. Maybe it shows in my style of camping/canoeing. Thank You

When I watch your video's and look at your kit and equipment it is the mirror image of mine. right down to your ax and boots. I did look around for a Rutstrum wedge tent and found one made by a co. in Portland. So I think you might be wright on that. Again thanks for sharing your trips with all of us.

A pleasure to watch. Thank you so much for sharing. Camping in the early spring and late fall when it's colder, no bugs, less people trying to get out there, and less tiring. A lot to be said for cold weather camping. I like you canvass tent and wood stove setup, I camp in the 20s but not in a hot tent. Looks pretty comfy, will have to try it some time.

That was some calm and sedate weather for a lake well known for it's wind and waves. I first camped on Virgin Timber Landing back in the early '80s. After a span of 25 years I returned to the site and was disappointed to see how it had been misused and overused, and the undergrowth allowed to grow up on the southern end, blocking the view of the lake. To make matters worse, there still weren't any virgins in sight.

I have an 8x10 on order, but plan on making my own smaller one in the future. maybe a 6x9 or a 6x8 for solo trips. Love your tent, it reminds me of the one my grandfather had which he made himself. His was a smaller one too. Served him perfectly for a great many years. Wonderful job on the video, I just found your channel today. Nice work...

Wonderful video & trip. I just question cooking in the tent in an area known for many bears. Not trying to be a buzz killer, but safety is my first priority. Beautiful canoe!
@RobinLauer8 жыл бұрын
Good point. My thoughts are that while Lows probably sees it's share of camp bears during the busy months, I was the first camper in there this year. The chances of running into one around the tent where pretty slim. I would think they would be spending all their waking hours around proven food sources that time of year. It's like when I canoe trip in northern Ontario on crown land, the bears are there, but not a bother as they have not been accustomed to campers/food source. Never had a problem in many trips. Plus it was in the mid 20's in the early morning and cooking outside vs. a nice heated tent was worth the slight risk. During deer season, no need to worry about camp bears. Thanks

Wonderful share! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed your video capture. Could you please share some information on your canvas tent and the wood stove. THAT set-up is magical!!! Thank you!
@RobinLauer7 жыл бұрын
Hi, and Thank You. The tent was originally 8x10 by 6'6" high, with a conduit/angle kit interior frame. It was only good for car camping, too big for toboggan or canoe. I cut the tent down to 7' wide by 6' deep by 54" high. Two people can sleep on the ground, or if the stove jack went out the middle of the back wall, you could fit a cot on each side. I don't sleep with the wood stove on. Here is some more information and pictures at the end of this thread www.canoetripping.net/forums/forum/general-paddling-discussions/fishing-and-hunting/72792-lows-lake-deer-camp-2017/page3

I always enjoy your videos especially on the Adirondacks. I live near Newcomb now and am enjoying retirement. A question for you. Where did you come by the frame joiners for your tent? I have been trying to come up with a way to make them. Thank you Sir.

I bought them with the tent from a company out west. They need to be the same angle as the roof pitch. Thanks
