Vitamins! Vitamins!! And more vitamins!! Lolol. Great episode, Jose. I love the sports history you give too. And the venue history. I learn so much. It’s hard to believe how many great artists were touring at the time. If I could go back in time I’d go to every one of those concerts you listed. I love all those artists/bands. My dad took me to see the Toronto Maple Leafs and Atlanta Flames hockey game at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1976. I loved the Leafs as a kid! Then at age 13 I discovered Zeppelin and hockey took a big backseat. 😊Cheers!

Wish i could see Elton John 1974 with Kiki Dee and her band as openers...damn it!!! Thanks Tim, glad you dug the Vitamin reference hehe. Oh man, i know Maple Leaf Gardens is an institution right? I need to check it out. Puzzled as to why Zeppelin only played there once in 1971? Was The Forum Montreal a better venue promotion wise? Need your input here.

@@JCM-LedZeppelin-StoriesI believe it was because of the Maple Leafs owner Harold Ballard. Do a Google search of him. He was a very very difficult owner…. and I can almost guarantee Ballard and Grant clashed. Two very strong minded people. I’m guessing thats one of the reason they only ever played the Gardens once. Ya that Elton John concert would have been amazing. He would have been touring Caribou ….one of my fav EJ albums. Check out the song Pinky from that album, it’s beautiful. I had the single Don’t Go Breaking My Heart in 1976 (along with all my Kiss singles lol) and I would play it all the time. Aside from Zeppelin and Bowie/Stones/Beatles….Elton is my fav artist of all time. I’m a huge EJ fan. Have a super day and keep up the great work,Jose!! Cheers ✌️

…Larry Badgeley was a busy man on this tour, with his magic bag of potent mind-numbing ‘scripts. The 8mm or 16mm (whatever the hell it is) footage from this gig is just AWESOME. Tune in especially to the very end of Rock and Roll - Bonzo stamping the closing of the song with 12 exclamation point type kicks on the bass drum and finally smashing down the final one which brought this clip to its’ close. It’s not often that we get to see something such as this and not to many people who wouldn’t give what I just outlined a second thought. “…it’s just an ending to a song - what’s the big deal?” some may say as they’re rolling their eyes at my undying LZ fandom. Once more this camera angle gives an almost head-on look at the departed drum giant in full action, with that trademark BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! kick drum exclamation. Do yourself a favor: focus on John’s right foot and CRANK this part UP with headphones on. You’ll likely drag back to watch it again and again.

Hey JCM! I love your stories about the Chicago Bulls! Those were the true good old days of the NBA. I recall watching nearly every game that Michael Jordan and the Bulls played. Looking back now, I didn't realize at the time how fortunate I and other fans were to watch Jordan in his prime. It's sad and am wondering if it is the same for you, but since Jordan's retirement, I can count on one hand the number of professional basketball games I have watched.

That is so amazing JCM! And typical of many former NBA basketball fans my age. Yeah, around 1999 would be about right. I have also been a lifetime Los Angeles Lakers fan (Sorry!), and yet also missed the Kobe Bryant years. I grew up during the Jerry West years. (The Label) I tried hard to mimic him, but he was so great. Then the Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul Jabbar period. Watching Larry Bird and Magic was so awesome. Hard to match them. It was true team basketball. The way the Celtics spread the floor. Similar to the New York Knicks with Walt Frazier and Earl the Pearl Monroe! Talk about an incredible backcourt! And then of course Michael Jordan and the Bulls, which for me was the ultimate. I have to admit that I haven't watched nearly a single game of Lebron James. He may be statistically the greatest, but I am biased and will probably always favor MJ. Since then, nada. Your reply prompted me to watch a bit of the 76ers - Denver Nuggets game tonight. They are great athletes and players. But it just isn't the same.

They played Atlanta Stadium to 50,000 people in 1973. They had a show at Atlanta Stadium in August 1975 cancelled. Then on their massive 1977 tour they reverted to 1 single show at the Atlanta Omni, at indoor venue, which seats around 16,000-18,000 people. That's crazy, they should have played at the Atlanta Stadium again in 1977, or maybe even 2 shows at Atlanta Stadium. A lot of Zeppelin fans who saw them in 1973 obviously missed out on seeing them again in 1977, as well as new fans of the band.
@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories
@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories 19 күн бұрын
I think because of tour logistics, it was better for them to go to the Omni as it made overhead/promotion costs better for everyone involved. I agree if the 1975 momentum had them scheduled for the Stadium, 1977 should have gone this route. Maybe had they continued in late July/August this would have been a possibility! Thanks for watching !!!

You REALLY love Led Zeppelin! This was fun to watch. Quite a few "multi-use" arenas (that arose with the 1967 NHL expansion) are gone now or have been repurposed. The Philly Spectrum is a good example. My own 2cents : Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow (with the late great Ronnie James Dio) Supported by REO Speed-wagon played the Omni on June 24th, 1978. I was too young to catch Led Zeppelin, but I caught the Grateful Dead several times at the Omni in the 80s and 90s. That was one of my favorite venues to see the Dead. The deadheads would take over the hotel, and that whole ground floor atrium would be packed with hippies. One year, I and my friends were approached by a CNN reporter, and a clip of that conversation made it into the hourly news rotation for the next day or two. I remember calling my mom from the hotel room and telling her to turn on CNN. This was before 24 nonstop news was really a thing, so seeing myself on TV was a big deal at my young age 🙂

@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories The Omni was a strange looking building both inside and out. I grew up in Atlanta so I saw a lot of shows there. If your seats were down in the lower levels the sound was really good. But if you were up in the rafters the sound was awful like most sports arenas. We didn't know about any leaking. That probably started sometime in the 1990s. I think the last show I saw there was probably R.E.M. in 1995.

The stop start section in the Stairway solo … any idea when that was first used? Definitely adds to the solo imho. Actually, I have an idea that one reason the solo sucked / got cut short at Live Aid was because Jimmy was still in the extended solo live mode for that song and was in that zone to go into the bolero section etc. so it all fell apart. Just an idea!

@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories 19 күн бұрын
While they did rehearse the start/stop like Promark said below, it was never played the same way meaning, the RESPONSE part varied, sometimes you'd hear Jones on piano or sometimes tension/silence. The way the conducted themselves here makes it SO interesting. They started using this the minute their 1977 tour begun, so you can look for Oklahoma The Myriad, as there is no full recording of their previous show in Dallas outside of 8mm footage. Your LIVE AID theory makes absolute sense, i am sure, this had something to do because Page could really go on for a while!

Unfortunately, due to lack of fan support and overall team success, plus perhaps owing to the fact that Atlanta, historically, is more of a MLB, NFL town with the Hawks sort of being a distant third often in the pecking order, depending on how the other Atlanta-based teams were doing, the Flames would soon be sold to a Calgary businessman and relocated to where they still reside, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. NHL hockey, for whatever reason, just has never taken deep roots in Atlanta whether it was the Flames or later the Thrashers. Some commentators tried arguing for a long time it was due to geographical proximity with a historically Northern cold weather sport not being a good fit for a mostly warm-weather Deep Southern town. But if that were true, why have Nashville, Tampa, and Miami (Florida Panthers) teams not only survived but thrived? The Dallas Stars have been one of the best NHL teams over the past 30 years since relocating away from Minnesota. I've heard constant rumors that if SLC hadn't purchased the old Arizona Coyotes team last year, a consortium of Houston-based businessman wouldve bought them and moved them to East Texas. Houston remains a highly tempting option for future NHL expansion. Its mystified me why all these other Deep Southern cities have succeeded as host cities for NHL expansion/relocated teams for decades yet Atlanta has struck out twice badly. Back in the 1970's, yeah geographical isolation and lack of proximity as that wasnt the right time for NHL to expand too far into traditionally less-then-favorable markets or unknown markets to test their products, plus Atlanta, unlike today in 2025, 40-45 years ago was more geographically isolated and remote like Seattle, Portland, Tampa, and even Boston to some extent. In the late 70's, Atlanta was a growing, bustling metropolitan region but it wasnt yet the "New York of the South" with over 7.5 million residents living there. It was still viewed as a very large country town with an overall population that was just over a million people. Culturally and population-wise, Atlanta of the late 70's/early 80's was somewhat comparable to Nashville today.

The Omni was sort of Ole Anderson's Georgia Championship Wrestling and then later Jim Crockett's NWA equivalent of Madison Square Garden from the late 70's to early 90's. A lot of great, memorable house, televised and later on, PPV shows with WCW. Their was a infamous show in 1985 where IIRC, Nikita Koloff betrayed or double-crossed beloved former wrestling hero, Dusty Rhodes at the Omni and Four Horsemen (Flair, Arn and Ole Anderson, Tully Blanchard) joined in beating up Rhodes pretty violently in the ring and the sold-out Omni crowd was so irate and angry that a near-riot occured where arena event security and APD riot police had to push throw a angry, bloodthirsty crowd to get back to the dressing room all the while alcohol, spit, popcorn, various forms of food were thrown and spilled on the fleeing wrestlers. Arn Anderson later remarked that the incident was one of the wildest and scariest moments of being a wrestler. Ted Turner was very loyal to many Deep Southern wrestling promotions as while he'd been a fan growing up, GCW on WTBS had always given Turner huge ratings back in the 1970's and early 80's that, along with Braves baseball and Hawks, helped keep his stations on the air. Now, many of his TBS and later TNT executives didnt prefer professional wrestling as they viewed it as redneck, low-brow, crude form of entertainment and had tried as far back as the early 80's to try an convince Turner to eliminate wrestling from their stations. Turner's response to these TBS executives was always: "Who's name was located on the doors that lead to these meeting rooms?" But as long as Turner was the boss, regional and then national wrestling promotions would have a spot on his Atlanta-based WTBS superstation.

Hello José, John Bonham’s Ludwig Pro Beat Stainless Steel Shell drum kit with it’s polished finish and the clear two-ply Remo Emperor drum heads installed and tuned up high - complimented with a fabulously fine-sounding array of Paiste Big Beat 2002 series cymbals, introduced in 1971, and made from their own custom formulated CuSn8 bronze, an alloy Paiste first used in 1965 - is the loudest, most badass, über-sexy-sounding drum kit ever - it’s the ne plus ultra! This kit perfectly complements John Paul Jones’ then-new, state-of-the-art and custom-made Alembic bass guitar with active pickups and electronics, which he would then plug into several super-tight, solid-sounding - and state-of-the-art for 1977 - Gallien-Krueger, solid-state amplifier heads and cabinets. Listen to Jonesy’s bass guitar when he plays the Low E during the transition from ‘The Song Remais The Same’ to ‘The Rover’ to ‘Sick Again’ from the opening night (the first of six sold-out shows) on the 7th of June 1977 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Like OMG! I will provide the link below. And unlike nico in the chat, I much prefer Led Zeppelin bootleg recordings sourced from the audio mixing console - where EVERYTHING - the whole band with their various instruments and especially, the drums and percussion - sounds so much bigger and better - with the full, wide and powerfully explosive dynamic range of the live concert - and reproduced with the highest fidelity. Sound-wise, soundboard recordings, in my opinion, get you as close to Led Zeppelin as sonically possible. 🥁 Here is the link: 🥁 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqnRZX2elNJrgpY 🥁

Great description on the Zeppelin gear, i agree with you 100% that this Ludwig kit with Jones' metallic sound complemented each other for the PRESENCE Sound. I view 1977 as TSRTS movie with the PRESENCE sound you know? Need to do a series on MSG 1977...all six shows revisiteD!

I think you’re missing a few details about the Plant at the Miami Airport Fiasco. The story was reported on May 16th, on which date the real Robert would’ve been home on the tour break. It’s been said a 19 year old in a wheelchair was impersonating Robert, and that the press issued an apology after finding out it was false.

Hmm not sure why you say Miami when the article said Atlanta Airport. Like you i do believe it was somebody impersonating Robert but then why would Atlanta's rock station be mentioned holding an interview with Plant? That's why i thought it was relevant to mention. Thanks for watching.

Hi Mr. J, how are you doing? I'm shaking off my post-vacation laziness and trying to catch up on your latest videos. By the way, your videos make me a little sad, I wish I had lived in the 70s, so many good things to watch, I think if I lived back then, I would do nothing else but go to the shows hahaha about Plant's supposed arrest, I remember seeing a video on YT, it was hilarious, it seems like the guy had a blond mane like our favourite singer but the resemblance ends there, he was short and not as handsome as the Golden God. Maybe he was drunk but whoever arrested him must have been totally stoned lol I loved that episode Mr. Jose, Monday is a holiday here in the Land of the Rising Sun so I'm going to watch a few more episodes that you so meticulously gift us with. Thank you, take care, see ya 😊

I shot a quick video of it, it's only intended to show the item it's not a polished video.. Go to my channel and check out the In Though the Out Door 1980 video. I think you will like it.

@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories There is also a picture in the middle that is the band standing in the field at Knebworth. A common promo picture but well printed. This was released contemporary to the album and I think it was done by the record company so it used the artwork from the album. I agree it is well done art-wise. The sheet music is subpar compared to what we have available these days. I thought you might enjoy it.

I really wish instead of the guitar solo they would have played HMMT and the DAC bow solo in the middle, prob scratched WSBMS it was a good Attempt and idea but page didn’t execute it that well

@ yeah I argue godfather of noise rock Lol. But as a musician nothing really mind blowing there. Of course maybe at the time so not sure. But generally great set just wish they trimmed the fat and played more songs. Esp since page couldn’t really nail his solos like before
@davidroberts7282

Was that really due to him becoming a more mediocre live player or was that more owing to his escalating, harder-to-ignore heroin addiction that Jimmy was dealing with around that time? I know Page has had "issues" with heroin and it was certainly a nagging, persistent problem throughout his Zeppelin days in mid-late 70's. A lot of credit has to be given to JPJ, Bonzo and Plant even with his own physical limitations and traumatic personal loss losing his son Karic in 1977 for picking up the slack and helping with various, even new musical arrangements and different, unique direction they went into in the mid-late 70's with Presence, and In Through the Out Door.

@@davidroberts7282 not nailing his solos? I mean could be a mix of boredom, and substance. Really seemed liked he was mailing it in mostly but a few inspired moments here and there. Even tho 75 was his drunken monk tour page had more WOW moments and still played inspired albeit shit faced half the time. Take MONTREAL, PHI, NYC 2.13, solid stretch of shows with WOW moments that blows away anything I’ve heard from 77. Sprinkle in heartbreaker from SEA 3.21. 75 and it’s not even close.
