As a Canadian who grew up in the 70's, I've probably seen April Wine Live 20 times or more. They were the kings of the arena circuit for quite a few years along with bands like Triumph, Chilliwack, Trooper, Rush (before they got big), The Stampeders and a few others. This song was the opening song for quite a few of the concerts I saw.

This must be a deep cut because I never heard it. Solid song, but you need to do the video of "I like to rock." It's performed in the same studio (Le Studio) that Rush's Tom Sawyer and Limelight were performed. It's a killer song. You guys will love it.
@claimguy
@claimguy Жыл бұрын
Its only a deep cut if you are an American or born after about 1965 - and that's not a meant to be a dis . April Wine's earlier catalogue is richer than the I Like To rock, Roller, etc material that came out 8-10 years after their first stuff (71 was the beginning and 71-78 was quite a run for them in Canada). Listen to Fast Train off their 1971 initial album, "You Could Have Been a Lady", "Drop Your Guns" and "Bad Side of the Moon" off of 72's "On Record" album, "Weeping Widow" and "Lady Run, Lady Hide" off of "Electric Jewels" (73) and pretty much anything off of the album this tune came from "Stand Back" in 75. Almost all of that came before they broke in the US so I find most Americans start with Harder Faster (79), or Nature of the Beast (81). April Wine could rock with anyone and they could aslo lay down some wicked power ballads. Truly versatile and their early catalogue gets overlooked.

This is my 2nd favourite April Wine song after "I Wouldn't Want To Lose Your Love". Not a deep cut at all. It was a major hit in Canada!. Jim Clench is the actual lead vocal on this song. They always played it in concert. Seen them in concert a few times. RIP Myles Goodwyn.

April Wine are a Canadian national treasure. They came out of the box with tbeir debut around 1974. I think tbis was tbe opening track. They got a fair bit of airplay, they had singles charting across Canada. I can't understand how they didn't break into America until around 1979-80 and even then it was just moderate success. There are quite a lot of bands that we grew up with here in Canada that we just took for granted and assumed they were successful mega-rock stars, but just south across that border they were virtually unknown. I grew up in southern Saskatchewan and these groups toured faithfully evey year, the summer festivals etc. Here is a list of great Canadian legends that you have probably never heard : The Guess Who BTO Chilliwack Trooper Streethesrt Triumph Red Rider Frank Marino FM and finally, the only band that could have held the title of Canada's greatest export next to Rush, The inimitable 'Max Webster'... I highly recommend. They were quirky, heavy, comical, topical and they were shredders... "We're just musicians, here to thin the thickness of your skin.."
