Love April’s mom Hanna. She is a fun person & mom. Great story about your grandmother from Germany. She needs to write all this down so your children and your siblings children can continue to tell their children. Hanna would be good for Rosanne if they lived closer. So much good family fun ! @@yesie8375 Yes, I have the same question. Very interesting story! :)
@marnies63813 жыл бұрын
@@yesie8375 yeah, the story didn’t really make any sense. As you said, you couldn’t escape East-Germany and the Nazis at the same time. Apart from that, Ellis Island was closed in 1954, just five years after the two states were founded. And once you were in West-Germany, why Israel? You would have been free to take a ship from Bremen oder Hamburg. I guess she just mixed things up 🤷🏼♀️

Speaking as someone who hand many cases of swimmers ear from summer swimming at the pool or swimming in the lake at scout camp, etc, the best plan is preventative ear cleanings especially if you are prone to having excessive ear wax. This can be done by your doctor or you can do it your self. The doctor uses an instrument that resembles a big metal syringe. Ear infections are caused by water getting trapped behind ear wax. Washing out the deep ear wax prevents this.

I think your Mom confused times in the story she told. If it was in 1932, this had nothing to do with East and West Germany. Your grandma then didn't escape from the DDR, but she escaped facist, racist Nazi Germany. And the border must have been one to a different country. If it was later, after 1945, she might have escaped from East to West Berlin, but then it wasn't a Nazi guard, but a guard from the Soviet Union. I love hearing stories like that. I'm from Germany and grew up with my grandma talking about those times a lot. Would love to hear more about your grandma's life.

love that your mom shared the story about your grandma! but... east and west germany weren't a thing during the nazi regime, the seperation of germany happened several years after world war 2. so she couldn't meet a nazi while going from east to west germany.

Question about your grandmother When she past through Ellis Island was her name changed? The reason I ask is because alot of people's names were changed. When both my grandparents came from portugal 🇵🇹 there names got changed apon arrival to Ellis Island.

April, what year did your grandmother escape? You said a Nazi guard let them pass. Was it during WWII or during the Cold War with Communism??? She was blessed to escape.
@yousmilemoreyes3473 жыл бұрын
Can you clarify your moms story? Did your grandma escape Nazi Germany or East Germany? If it was East Germany, it would not of been A Nazi guard but a East German guard. The 19 would of crossed into West Germany. And if that's the case, why did she then go to Israel first?
