Lol, oldest saying, bad product. Does not matter the car or bike manufacturer. Purchase enough over the years. Differing manufacturers. Get good ones, bad ones, so so one's. Luck of the draw. Mass production, hangover Monday, etc. You either get a good one or a bad one. Where manufacturing is at today. Most will be good, outside of sensors & other electronics that go bad. A bad sensor, the most common issue, happens from mass production. For the most part modernity is better. Other than the added complexity. More so in electronics. I am kinda leaning back to old dumb carburetors. No computer system. Simply need to know how to re-jet, clean & rebuild carbs, as well as sync them. Simple points for ignition, & gravity feed fuel system. Simply very little to go wrong. For street use, simply do not need the 200+ hp bikes. The old 100-160 hp is plenty fast enough.

For one reason (which i thought would be obvious to everyone). To get him and the bike in fram appropriately he needs to crouch down to the bikes stature. Simply, a motorcycle ain't as tall as a human. I thought that was intuitively obvious.

My Shiver has had few issues over the last 10 years and over 120K kms. A tacho needle that fell off that got the dash replaced under warranty. Some electrical issue that was a $100 fix. A starter motor that needed replacement. That was less than $200 delivered and easy to replace. There was an annoying problem with the indictor lights on the rear being real easy to break. Aprilia did end up offering better stalks for them but I ended up buying some led ones they had which were more solid. Started getting some oil leaks a year ago. Got it sorted reasonably cheap by an Aprilia dealer. I don't know what the other bikes in their range are like for reliability but if they're anything like the Shiver I'd have no problems buying another Aprilia.

@shaneflutsch2270
@shaneflutsch2270 Жыл бұрын
This is something people never think about. But very true... Imagine knowing 20 people. If 18 of them turn out to be Honda guys, and only two of them have had major breakdowns, then it makes it look like 16 out of 18 bikes are reliable to a tee. However, if the last two of 20 guys are BMW or Ducati guys, and one of those two guys had a breakdown, it makes it look like 1 out of every 2 BMWs or Ducatis are bad. That is called sample size. Like if you only knew one person with an iPhone, and that one person had so many update and glitch issues that you swore never to buy one. And yet look at how many people have iphones in real life, that aren't making negative reviews... Reliability is about sample size and the care you take of your bike, not just the normal "Japanese is ALWAYS superior" attitude that many of my friends give me. Yes, that may be true but... Also one of them managed to blow up a cbr-1000rr at like 9,000 miles. So... It's not just set in stone. I've seen so many people who love their Aprilias and stopped to talk to them. These people ride a lot and also put in track hours 🤷 almost made me want one. Either way they're beautiful bikes 🙂

My Aprilia was made for me. I don't regret one bit passing up on triumph tridents or mt-07's. What's more, I'm like the only Aprilia guy around. I own a 2018 Aprilia RSV4 1000. I’m at about 11 thousand miles. I notice a slight loss of power around 100 mph when I let it rip. I have not gotten the valve adjustment that is required at 9 thousand miles, I believe. How important is the valve adjustment service? I don’t have a dealer nearby or anyone that can do it. Any advice? Or anyone gone past the miles? What can happen? Thanks!

Great point!! Currently cross shopping the Tuono and Streetfighter and exactly what you're talking about is occurring. Does the bike have all the character that the brand has yet to convey?

I've never thought of Aprilia as being unreliable. But I'm not afraid of an unreliable brand, because I have a Ducati, MV Agusta, Renault car, I've had an Alfa Romeo & other Ducatis, and guess what, I've never had a problem with any of them. Because brands are only unreliable if you don't follow their servicing advice, and a lot of people don't... then want to complain!

I live in Italy and i had a kawasaki a yamaha a ducati and now RSV4 RF. Reputation is not as good as the other ones in terms of reliability. But then let’s go to the fact: 0 issues with yamaha and 0 issues with aprilia that by the way is my track bike, so much more “exploited” then the other. Some minor issues with kawasaki and tons of issues with ducati. Plus it is by far the best track bike i have ever ridden (and yeah i have rode the panigale v4 too) and i never took any of my bike to the official dealership. So summarizing: it is the worst brand just because people are scared pf reliability without a tangible difference? Well that doesn’t sound like a good reason to say that. Aprilia make much better bikes than the majority of their competitors and reliability is just a little worse. If you can’t afford a slightly more ofter oil change than probably you shouldn’t buy an aprilia since the beginnjng. Then, ducati… seriously you want to talk about ducati as a good example of reliability? Cmon..

Nice short. I've owned 4 Aprilias, which were generally reliable but not always. I replaced 2 stators myself on 2 different gen Tuonos. Enjoyed these bikes but my current ride is a Kawasaki and I have my eye on a Yamaha. So I guess it'll be Japanese for the foreseeable future

That's exactly how it is. Aprilia has never been a reliable bike. I've been living in Europe the past 20 yrs. Nothing about Aprilia or any Italian bike is reliable. Besides the rediculous price tags. Used one's are a dime a dozen but nobody wants them in Europe.

People may buy Ducati’s as status symbols… but that doesn’t take away from the fact that they’re quite often extremely, unapologetically raw and meant for riders who are the same way. They don’t care if you can’t handle the bike… that’s your problem. They usually come with the most serious track capabilities out of the box, and usually require a very skilled rider to get the most out of them. Japanese brands tend to build for the consumer market and make their bikes more user friendly. Ducati builds the bike they want it to be based on its design philosophy, which is often based around performance on a track. There’s a reason that a lot of people say Ducati’s only start to stretch their legs at 100mph. They’re pretty serious hardware, and as such they’re pretty expensive and often don’t compensate for your lack of capabilities compared to the machine. If you can’t extract the full performance from a Ducati, just keep it in the more mild engine mapping. It’s designed as a track weapon first, street cruiser second.

I would habe to agree sadly. not only is it the "worst" sports bike brand ever, but also enduro/touring Adventure bike brand. the tuareg 660 is a great bike, and other than the big a on it there's nothing that screams aprillia, but it's not "there" yet. the 660 is not something people boast about, or even talk about in general. aprillia repair stations.. exist? I think? which shouldn't be something one needs to assume. so all in all... sadly I just have to agree here.
