I have difficulties in understanding the term "feed" in lathe machine. Please do a video giving me a clear idea
@tse2be7 жыл бұрын
Feed is synonymous with "giving". We give a cutting edge into a work at a certain rate to cut material from the work. This is feeding. Giving the tool into the work. Feeding is also giving motion at a certain amount. Cross feed is moving something cross dimensionally. Longitudinal feed is moving the apron, for example, lengthwise the lathe. So, giving a tool edge, drill bit or motion to execute the work is feeding. If you drill a hole very fast, it means the feed was fast. If the drill spindle rotates fast, it has nothing to do with the feed. Feed is the power of your hand pushing the hand drill into the work. Or the speed at which the drill bit penetrates into the work, for example woodpiece.

Worm gets the power from feed rod or lead screw ??
@Mech4Mechs4 жыл бұрын
Worm gets power from Feed Rod. Lead screw is used for Thread-cutting only. Watch my video on Thread cutting to know function of leadscrew: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZeqamV_hcScgZo

I've worked on a lathe where the feed rod was an hexagon.
@Mech4Mechs7 жыл бұрын
Wow.. Now that's something new. I guess the worm would have a hexagonal hole to mesh with the feed rod, no need of a keyway.
