4:47 That's EXACTLY what they are doing in the OCG now (mostly). But for some reason (greed) the TCG decided that all staples should be super high rarity-hard to pull cards, while archetype cards and legacy support is mostly lower rarity. In the OCG cards like Lightning Storm and Pot of Prosperity are something like super rares, if I remember correctly. I would also like to notice how this wasn't the case all the time. I remember very good, back in the GX era, Everybody had access to pretty much all the important staples, because they were always printed as commons in Structure Decks It was Boss monsters and archetype specific cards that were higher rarity then, but sadly, those practices are long gone in the TCG..........

I completely agree with the "harder to pull all cards" statement. Sure, there are "no more" short prints in main sets, but now everything is basically shorted by a bit. I'd rather that the rares were just shifted to the common slot and we kept 8 secrets per set. And an even bigger complaint I have: there are only 3 ultras per box of deck building sets (with the TOCH schema). *Only Three???* That's a little greedy considering how many ultras (10) and supers (15) there are per deck build set! *I'd rather no filler, mostly thriller.* But I'll add some constructive feedback in the off chance Konami reads this: > Stop canceling Structure Decks and shoe horning them into side sets - they are such a good chance to reprint cards and get players into the game at a low entry fee > Be a bit more generous with printing in main and deck building sets (as stated above) - 4 ultras and 5 supers per deck build set is my suggestion > Create a better alternative to special editions and promo products - we've been getting the Legendary Duelist reprint products with dice, but if those are here to stay, they need more incentive than a 1 in 7 RNG promo card and a dice to justify them being $5 more than a special edition.

For Structure Decks, I’d like to see Konami do Structure Decks: Rebooted, basically, taking old structure decks and recreating them with the same idea, but for modern times. Seeing a modern Rock deck, or a modern warrior deck would be super interesting. Not to mention, a modern Zombie deck would be really cool. And maybe some don’t NEED reprints (like Dinomasher’s Fury, I guess doesn’t REALLY need a reboot), but I think that could be cool.

But that’s the cool thing about the rebooted idea. Like you said, what about a modern Wind or Water or Rock deck? I think it could be interesting. The reason that the Vanguard OverDress starter decks is so cheap is because Vanguard has been having a problem for a while with getting people into their game. Their sister game, Future Card Buddy Fight, recently went under, and their V-Series reboot for Vanguard was an absolute mess. Frankly, I wish Yugioh would produce more higher-level structure decks similar to how Magic will sell more expensive commander decks that have a lot more value in them versus some of their more entry-level commander decks. Even Vanguard did this during the G-Era of the original format with the Legend decks, which were essentially above average structure decks that had more grade 4 units than most other structure decks.

My issue isn’t with high powered staples being secrets and/or short-print. My issues stems from important starter cards for archetypes, rather than their high powered boss monsters. Ignisters was the start of my annoyance towards it, with both searchers and the Field Spell, all of which integral to make any plays, being secrets and the Island getting short printed. Ignisters (as of the time frame between their release and new support) probably didn’t even qualify as a rogue deck, but people still had to charge a lot for them, which really sucked for anyone wanting to build the deck.

Paul what it sounds like in regards to starter/structure deck(s) is something similar to the “Super Starter: Space-Time Showdown” starter deck. It introduced pendulum summoning with a deck and even gave bonus “2 power-up packs”. They contained an ultra dark hole and card to go with the deck theme. In this case it was Odd-Eyes Dragon. So your opinion isn’t impossible it has been done once. It just depends wether or not if Konami will actually hear the option of their player base. It can happen we have proof of this. Hopefully this helped give a little value to your hope for product changes. I know if they did this with say potential decks like shaddoll for example it would be great. Imagine a secret village of the spellcasters as an reprint in the set or some generic staple that hasn’t had a lot of printings. It certainly would be interesting to see.

100% agree on reprint sets. When I saw Terror of Trishula and XYZ Burst in Ghosts from the Pasts, I was like "WHY is this here?!" This is my take on how to appeal to the player-base as well as the collectors, without destroying the secondary market. In core sets, bring back Ultimate Rares, and make then 2 per box, but also make it so that every foil can be an ultimate rare. Any card that has a Super/ Ultra or Secret rare version in a core set would also be available as an ultimate rare. In addition to that, make the "staple" or high meta-impact cards mostly Super Rares instead of Secret Rares, so that players will have a wider ability to get their hands on the cards, but the Ultimate Rare versions of that same staple card would be very expensive for collectors. Imagine Droplets/ Zues/ Pot as supers, but also available as Ultimate in the same set

So getting a good secret is actually easier and getting a bad secret is actually harder now. I think the old sets were much better if they would have just stopped short prints. But for these new sets they should definitely cut back some of the Ultras, Supers, Secrets down to Commons to improve the odds of getting the cards you want. For deck builder sets we went from Hidden Arsenal style into Toon Chaos style. Hidden Arsenal 5 card packs 40 Supers with short prints 20 Secrets with short prints In Toon Chaos 7 card packs 35 Rare 15 Super 10 Ultra with short prints Addition of Collector Rares 1 Box 24 Packs Hidden Arsenal Supers 96 --- 120%240% Secrets 24 --- 60%120% Toon Chaos Rares 144 --- 411% Supers 21 --- 140% Ultra 3 --- 15%30% Toon Chaos style may look worse, but thanks to Collector rares the secondary market on key cards is much cheaper than that of Hidden Arsenal. For example, a bad deck like Evil Eye main card was a short printed Secret and cost 40-50$, but a good deck like Dyatron main card was a short print Ultra and costs 20-30$. Still expensive but much more affordable thanks to the whales getting their profits off Collector rares. Also keep in mind that you were not guaranteed any short prints in Hidden Arsenal style, normally you would open 2 per box, but you could get unlucky and open 0. Toon Chaos style you are guaranteed 3 Ultras which take the place of short print Secrets. Just alittle more secure that way. Plus getting a playset of all rares is pretty nice, Hidden Arsenal you would have to find your missing copies somewhere else. Toon Chaos style overall improvement in my opinion.

I agree, but there is a balance between maximizing konami’s revenue and making the game still more affordable for the player in the secondary market. Things like fewer secrets per box to increase the odds you get the better one is fine because you’re either buying a few boxes and a player to keep the copies you pull or they will buy even more boxes to put the good cards up for sale. Honestly, my biggest problems with products are as follows 1. Secret rares don't have alternative budget printings on release (See Pokemon. They have secret rares, and they're full art cards of regular cards in the set. The most they have is ultra rares that they don't print commons of. 1:6 or so packs at worst.) 2. There isn't a one definitive set for a new player to jump in with. A lot of people say duel devastator, but that's 40$ (Canadian money) and you only get one copy of every card, so you'd need to buy 3 of it, and at that point, its 120$ for 3 copies of the hand traps. 3. I wanted to jump back in with Starry Knights, I thought the decks gimmik was cool. So I wondered, "I could buy one or two ghosts from the past, and then buy whatever else I didn't pull." I looked up openings. Starry Knights are a 10 card archetype, (one of them wasn't even printed in the set) and you weren't even guaranteed 1 starry knight card within a box. The set is too big for you to actually pull what you want, it feels like a set that was MADE to buy the singles for rather than open it yourself.

I feel like if reprint sets were much smaller, making the cards more accessible and therefore cheaper, the yugioh competitive scene would be a lot healthier. A lot of people don't or can't compete at high levels because they can't afford 3 copies of the newest must have staple. If every so often konami made the best cards more available then I'm sure more people would compete at events or at least have a better time at them

Yeah I am not so sure about the 2 secrets per box anymore. Last 2 sets (Phantom Rage and Blazing vortex) I've bought 2 boxes of each set and both boxes of blazing vortex and 1 of the boxes from phantom rage only had 1 secret per box. I feel that I am losing value of these boxes when this happens. IMO Konami should bring back rares into the core sets. I liked pulling a rare and holo per pack makes, it seemed like a better investment when opening packs. Also it would make it easier to pull what we need of the other holo rarities. They should keep the no short printed holo card rule. No deck builder sets but legendary decks style product would have my vote. I like the idea of going back to how the structure deck were like when they first producing them. Multiples of necessary common cards, new stuff only 1 copy a deck. This way buy 1 deck and few singles of the new stuff benefits Konami and retailers that split the product up for singles. I personally keep the price point where it is if going this route. The other thing I would do is archetypes that are being voted on in structure deck polls must have support that will make the archetype tier 1. This rule has to be put in place. I don't want to waste my time voting for an archetype if the structure deck support is going to be garbage like the Ice Barrier Structure. Ghost of the past was 132 cards actually. The base OCG product TCG Konami used was a set with random support for a lot of different archetypes so that was part of the issue of the support being everywhere. My main issue with this set when you are printing a set with more than 1 ghost rare, Konami needs to look at the total number of cards in the set and take 1/5th of the cards and make them ghost only (1/5 of Ghost from the Past would be around 22 cards). Also there should be a guaranteed 1 ghost rare per pack. This way investing into display boxes would be better cause you will have 6 ghost rares per display and get a better return on investment. If you have to buy single of the ghost rare you want, they also won't cost over $200 for a piece of cardboard like they currently do. I mean TCG Konami did do something similar to what I described with Gold Series 4 Haunted Mine (6 Gold Ghost rare of a 55 card reprint set. That is actually just over 10% of the set) so there was ABSOLUTELY NO REASON NOT TO DO THE SAME with Ghosts of the Past. TBH I don't mind the the megatins the way they are right now. The only change I would do is is have the promos separate from the set. If they want to have a card pool of 12 promo cards and give us 4 cards from that pool I be fine with that. For Jump promos, there is a certain amount of time that has to pass before Konami can get the rights to print those cards. It was like that when Jump promos were still viable here in NA. Which why other regions of the TCG had to wait for the reprints of those Jump Promos. An import set like what you are describing wouldn't work, TCG Konami tried it with the World Superstars set and that set was just a 60 card set of random cards making it hard for any person get what they want. Most people bought the cards they wanted as singles.

i VERY MUCH agree with the structure deck idea of it being a little more expensive but be ready from the get go! The amount of times i’ve seen new players sit there like “i gotta get sleeves? A deck box? Playmat? Whats a side deck?” And then it ends up costing them a bunch and they’re turned off by it + gives konami an opportunity for cool sleeve/deck box arts exclusive to structure decks!

I've thought about how Yugioh product has been handled in the past 3-4 years and would like Konami TCG to mirror how rarities are handled in OCG where there's a high and low rarity of chase cards. To keep the set within the 100 card pool they could introduce a TCG exclusive set that will replace the reprint set that come out in the summer and move all the TCG exclusive cards from the main set to there.

Agreed with how things can change for sets. Hear me out on this yes ghost from the past has good cards in it and people bash on it for what's its not. From the name Ghost from the Past I though maybe they were going to reprint some old ghost rares cards, give older cards a ghost lift (Red Dragon Archfiend), maybe give cards that need reprints a reprint treatment (Ex. Air Neos, Number 92), even reprint some ultimate rare cards. Just a though

I remember me and a friend tried to get back into Yugioh so we both bought a starter deck and bought I think ten packs each. So what we didn't realize is that packs only have support for specific archetypes for the most part, at least the ones we got. So we wasted a lot of money that day since almost none of the cards we pulled worked with our starters lol. Painful lesson.

Hello Paul and Team APS, as someone who has never truly played yugioh besides casually and for fun with friends or family I really really enjoy the thought of structure decks having a side deck, duplicate cards, more than 3 extra deck cards and even some staples. I wouldn't even mind a price increase for the structure decks if it means we get more bang for our buck. As of now, while structure decks are great to start off with, there isn't a lot to do with them due to how they're made. I would love to see a 40 card deck, a 5-10 Extra deck and a 5-10 card side deck and add certain staples, like ash blossom, infinite impermanence, etc. and just make them commons as well. I would GLADLY pay $19.99 for a structure deck of that sort. It would be a great way to get started in the game, get invested in it(as you now have certain staples needed), and be able to have a deck that is fun to use and easily accessible to everyone

Here 2-3 thing i'd complain (i had to precise, i didn't launch the video yet, so i'll see if our complains are similar a bit too late): 1 the joke cards in secret or ultra , there presence simply make things even more fustrating because they're mostly worthless and took the place of chased cards. To put it bluntly, these cards are simply FILLERS. i hope we won't get any in the secret or ultra slots in the 2021 tins or we'll get too many of the "promos" (maybe we'll get a Dragoon 2.0 but i highly doubt). 2 The rarity bump from OCG to TCG, one exepmle that comes in mind is Aromage Jasmine that was i think commun in ocg, and was secret in tcg wich completly shut down any chance for casual players to have the deck. Same thing happened with Dogmatika Eclesia (from super to ultra); yes i know ocg and tcg products are a bit different, it doesn't change the fact we only got 4 ultras per boxe, and these cards can be drowned in middle of the joke cards. 3 The deck reprints that ocg got but not tcg, wich again can be a blow to again the casual players (and by casual i mean even someone that spent 100$ in products, wich is already some investments). I do hope Konami won't take away Lighning Storm nor Infinite from the next structure deck. On a side note, we already have the Star Destroyer Kaiju in another structure deck, maybe this one could be changed. But only that one specific card, not the rest.
@dampchinchilla62303 жыл бұрын
I think it'd be cool to see reprint sets that have stronger theming. For example ghosts from the past, 3 of the 5 ghost rares were related to DM-era archetypes (Dark Magician, Blue-Eyes, and BLS) so why not make all of the cards reprinted support DM archetypes. Then you still throw in a few high value staples that need reprints and imports that work with the theme (like Starry Nights). That way even if someone doesn't pull the cards like Evenly Matched or a ghost rare, they're more likely to end up with something they can build off of
@ChizFriTCG3 жыл бұрын
I always wanted to see Konami give Deluxe Structure Decks another shot (like the Pendulum Starter Deck and the Noble Knights Structure Deck) where you get the deck, sleeves, and a rubber mat. Konami also needs to be better on how they design the products - I am so tired of having to buy 3 copies of the same product just to have a usable deck and a stack of useless slag on the side. Bushiroad has been killing it in that space for years at this point - give the players something they can use, but only have a single copy of key cards be holo so that you have to buy multiples _if you want to_ without it being required to actually play with the deck.

Okay depends on budget and where you to want to spend your money. If you are able to find v for victory and some cheap staples then go for it but tcgplayer the onomatopoeia archetype and buy 3 of the cards that came out in magical hero and buy 3 of the utopia mini and XYZ change tactics that came out in duel power and just add some cards here there (battle traps, hand traps, floodgates just whatever)and you have a fun deck that plays almost like the anime. The newer cards are going to be focused on zw weapons and all that which is kinda its own thing of course but helpful make the rank 4s and what not so have at that if you will. Deck isn't competitive meta but it's definitely fun to play with others. Good luck my dude.

Now if you want ghost rare utopia ray or to add expensive staples then that's gonna cost ya and be hard to get but to find all the regular stuff on tcgplayer and to add cards and whatnot, your looking at maybe 6 or 7 for the magical hero cards and the duel power cards and anything you wanna splash in is fair game.

charge 30usd per structure, have them include a themed playmat(talking basic cloth not the thick ones you buy seperate) or card sleeves, multiple copies of each card(Think like the cyberdark deck that had imperm, it was decent if you bought 3 copies of it and slotted in some outside cards), and themed plastic shell deckbox(Just a collector item kinda deal)...this would appeal to people that are either in the hobby to collect themed items, new players maybe looking into playing more seriously(that dont have a large chunk of cash to drop on a custom meta deck), and to the people that just play at home games with friends every so often while still wanting a good deck to run. They could keep the current versions of the structure decks out aswell, lower the price to say 5-6usd per each one which would make them accessible to the younger audience, and serve as a cheap option for say someone that didn't care about the collector items and just wanted the cards. Speaking for myself i'd have rather had something like the 30usd version i pitched when i was getting back into the tcg, as all in all it would have let me dip my toes with a small upfront cost over dumping cash to get a decent rogue tier deck+playmat+sleeves+deckboxes.

I agree with pretty much everything you mentioned in this video, which is why I love watching these videos of yours. A duel devastator set every year filled with staples would be brilliant. My biggest issues with Konami are the increased number of foil rarity cards per set without increasing the hit rates per box plus short printing. To fix this issue I loved your suggestion of making good staples supers instead of secrets. My suggestion would be make the highest rarity of cards in sets be Ultra rare, BUT use the secret rare and starlight rare slots exclusive for rarity bumps. For example "Pot of Prosperity" would be an ultra rare but there would be a secret rare printing in the same set. This way people on a budget can just buy the lower rarity version of the card ultra/super/common which should be easier to get as long as there is no crazy short printing but the chase cards would be the secret rare/starlight rare versions for collectors or players not on a budget (Pokemon does something similar with its supporter cards) This would make the game so much more accessible but still have the appeal for people to buy the products to chase the higher rarities. I like the deck builder sets very much because I'm a filthy casual but I wish there was more ultras in those sets, 1 box = 3 ultra rares and each archetype has 3/4 ultras needed which feels a bit cheap.

I agree that it would be great if staple cards could be lower rarity for easier access... but of course that won't happen because we know why Konami makes these cards. To make money. They know people will buy more boxes to get one or two staples, then give it a year and the reprint will come out. This is just a sad reality.....
@gamegab72713 жыл бұрын
Structure and Starter Decks are good for two things: getting reprinted staples you need for existing decks (i.e. Imperial Order, Pot of Avarice, Mirror Force, etc.), or building new decks (i.e., Cyber Dragon, Elemental Heroes, Synchros, Shaddoll, Monarchs, the list goes on!). I can see the appeal in buying multiple copies of these decks, but it can be pricey if you’re not careful. Still, they’re great ways to get into Yu-Gi-Oh! if you’re on a budget. If they were priced the same as those recent Vanguard decks, buying multiple copies wouldn’t be an issue.

Here’s a complaint that made me step away for a while. I think there is too many banlists in a year. I understand that the ban list keeps the game fresh and it moves product but a deck that you spend money on can become obsolete and you need to spend a crap ton more money on another meta deck if you want to stay competitive. Good points by the way Paul

Ban lists are meant to keep the game healthy. I think Konami does a great job giving players time to enjoy their decks and get as much mileage as they can. 13:10 The reason what you're talking about here will never happen is because Konami makes money on the sealed product, not the aftermarket. If they make the already expensive aftermarket cards hard to get on reprint then they've got a ready made stable of whales who will shell out big money to buy multiples of whatever sealed product it is to ensure they get that chase card. It's also the likely reason they print clearly broken cards like Dragoon, because they know those cards will drive sales. So until sweaty players stop jonesing for more power creep both reprint and regular sets will continue to have filler and laughably broken extra deck cards will continue to be printed.

I think the best way to do rarities is what they're currently doing with collector's rares now:. Instead of having just one card at one rarity (like Drytron Nova or Orcust Mekk-Knight Girsu), have those cards at multiple rarities: Girsu as a secret but also an Ultra or Super, Nova as an Ultra but also a Super or Secret, etc. That way, people who don't want to throw away hundreds of dollars to play the game semi-competitively or play newer decks can, while people who like forking out cash for max rarity decks can do that too. I don't think Konami would lose sales this way, because unfortunately our community is full of max rarity players, so there would still be a chase for those cards while not being ridiculously expensive for the rest of us. If we didn't have a community like this then we wouldn't be having the problem we have now, where Konami gives us the short end of the stick by replacing needed reprints with trash or short printing, etc.

The reason we dont get the badass OCG products like LINK VRAINS PACK, is because the TCG is the "whale" and japan is highly competitive when it comes to the amount of card games they have. In order to compete, the OCG must entice players with good products or lose to the competition. In the TCG, yugioh doesnt have to compete and players buy the product whether its trash or not. TCG is effectively the whale in this scenario, and from a business standpoint, that is great for Konami's bottom line.
