I haven't judged a Pokemon event in a while, but I used to be pretty active in the area. If someone judge called me for one of those tokens personally, I would've given them at least a warning under Harassment. I'm personally shocked the onsite judges wouldn't have done something similar. The current standard of conduct even have a section called "Gross Infringement of Community Standards" that explicitly mentions "Distribution of obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, or graphically or gratuitously violent content" as an example.

That's what I was thinking. There's no way this doesn't fall under an existing rule, but even if it didn't, how would you not assume it was inappropriate to bring cosmetics like that around other players? PTCG is a children's card game with an actual children's division for play and a large child audience. Even with most other adults, lewd cosmetics are a turnoff for the game to new and casual players.

Legends of runeterras actually a great game, Alex could speak on it more but it has some of the fairest monetization I've seen from a mobile game cards are easy and plentiful at every rarity only monetization is cosmetic based.

Regarding that recent Secret Lair Raining Cats and Dogs, it's a fully built commander deck for 149.99 USD. It has some valuable reprints on top of some unique art of cats and dogs on a few cards and tokens. You're definitely right that it sold out a few hours after, and many people on reddit/twitter were reporting they got the shipment confirmation within a day or two. I think peoples' fears were correct that many were hopping in to scalp these, because there's already listings of the deck for 2~2.5x the price, and they seem to be moving.

Despite being a cynical take, Paul has a cool point about Rarity Collection 1 in that you actually enjoy trading the cards with other people without thinking about the cost of the card in the secondary market. You really could just trade off your baroness for some TTT without thinking of getting 1:1 value because they were all good cards printed very generously.

The ruling thing is so weird. In 2022, the Mtg set "Dominaria United" had a card (Serra Paragon) with an effect that was very intuitive to understand, but that wasn't supported by the rules if you went to read and interpret them. It was incredibly clear what the card was *supposed* to do, but judges argued that the rules should be followed if there wasn't any errata or announcement about it. Wizards is no stranger to issuing errata or communicating about rules when there's an oversight like this. They often have errata for cards that are just being released if they noticed some error they missed. I don't know why in this case they didn't say anything. So I played exactly one big tournament where the card did something it wasn't supposed to do, and it was pretty ridiculous. I see absolutely no benefit to not making a preemptive statement about a known rules issue.

alot of ygo players want their omni-negates, ftks, lockouts, burn, or extending into generic boss monsters after a 30 minute turn. I am glad that you think It will not work with generic meta decks. I do not want ashen to be competitive, I would love for it to be a non-meta archetype

For those not familiar with runeterra, the game was just too generous with obtaining cards, i personally had enough craft points to craft the next 3 expansions worth of cards, by playing semi regularly, so the monetizations efforts were mostly focused on the cosmetics on the cash shop. The problem is that the cosmetics were not worth it. Most of the skins change the picture on the card and did nothing else and the ask price was like 10$ per low rarity skins. 10$ for a picture, it was not worth spending money on the game.

It was also frustrating that the most difficult cards to get were the champions themselves. So you could build like two or three decks except for the fact you need to grind for (with the one deck you built) the most important card that you need a playset of.

RA01 had 5 cards per pack, so you're technically getting less for more money with the new set. RA02 will have 108 cards per box compared to RA01's 120. The only consolation is that you'll get more high rarity foils, but I'm not sure if that's worth the extra price. I'll still be getting a box but they'll probably cost ~100$

I will be playing Ashened just purely because the designs are so cool. I really do not care if a deck doesn't make a hundred negates,and hand rips the other player. I feel like the game is far too reliant on negates and super long combos. I like my decks simple and makes it so both players play the game. I get tired when decks all end on the same generic boss monsters as it felt so boring. In regards to the lewd vstar markers i feel like anyone who enters an official tournament with any lewd product,regulations be damned they should be barred from entry and sent home. People gotta grow up and be responsible, especially with a game like pokemon you know there are more kids than other tcgs so shame on those who enter with that kinda junk

I don't play modern yugioh (I was there from the 2002 beginning), however I like to listen to your podcast. I like that you cover a few different things each time, from various games and IP. I play flesh and blood exclusively now but I have played many card games from mtg, yugioh, pokemon, Digimon tcg, Keyforge. When I get involved with a game, I go deep. Hard disagree with both of you on the owning your physical media, owning what you PAY FOR, when you exchange your time(essentially your life) for dollars, it absolutely matters to own what you buy. This is the difference of being a customer versus, more derogatorily being a consumer(whom has no agency over what they consume or are consumed by). Diseases consume, plagues consume, customers discern and purchase or not what they want. Things take space, true. So don't have everything, choose what you actually want and pass on what is mediocre or not worth as much to you. Or trade in stuff for other stuff. You don't own digital, you maybe get access to it. It's part of the "you'll own nothing and be happy" rhetoric that's being pushed on all. Forget that! I value what I have! I value the choice to buy what I want. I don't buy digital "things". I still buy vhs and dvd, and pre internet consoles and games because I am not on board with the direction that entertainment media is pushing toward. I value vhs more than dvd even, because I pop that tape in the vcr and it plays the movie for me. Dvd has a menu, then unskippable previews and warnings, and little menu flashy cutscenes and a bunch of extra stuff that isn't special anymore, I just want to watch my movie. Old games take some load time, but they are way more fun than modern empty sandbox games that force you online ect.. I realize not all games are like that, but big triple A game studios push this digital age copy paste empty unfinished games crap, like they aren't mooning us all from their gold plated helicopters up there... We shouldn't all suffer because a few people out there like the convenience of digital access, wait until you aren't allowed to access any of it, and you don't control any of that side of things when you buy digital, read the terms of service. It's such a foolish path to go, it's a swindling scam!!

I agree with you about owning physical over digital when possible (especially after Sony demonstrated how easily digital content can be taken away). Something has to be really good or really cheap to justify essentially renting it imo. That being said, there are some modern games that are worth playing. I highly recommend games like Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Spiderman, and Star Wars Fallen Order. These are single player games that offer a strong narrative and do not require hopping on an online multiplayer.

The thing with Palworld is (haven’t played it but plan too over the weekend) although it borrows from other games and the aesthetic of BOTW, there is clear innovation and the the streamers appear to have genuine fun playing it. Can we just appreciate a new kid on the block that has tried something new. It just goes to show that an established franchise cannot just rely on a repetitive game mechanics and is just as susceptible to new and exciting ideas. Hopefully this will be a wake up call to Pokémon game devs to bring something new to fans. (I note Pokémon GO was a social phenomenon but I meant the games)

Fortnite is not the first battle royale but it has elements of Crafting. Rocket league is Cars + football. The whole Metroidvania genre has elements of Metroid and Castelvania so games like Hollow Knight are relevant because the "new idea" they had was to make spooky bugs with soul games elements in a metroidvania game. So if palworld makes Pokemon + survival + factorio then it is a new idea because who tf made a game like that?

Yu-Gi-Oh TCG had a product like the Elite boxes - Duel Devestator. That set was great, guaranteed cards per boxe with accessories. Magnificent Mavens had sleeves. A combo product like these were tou get cards, sleeves and even Yu-Gi-Oh themed dice would sell well I think

The issue with the subscription service that Ubisoft developer is missing is you pay for youtube music or Spotify, you pay for Netflix or Amazon prime video, you can pay for both, but you don't have too, these game companies want you to pay for their subscription service, if you have to pay for EA, Ubisoft, Activision etc etc, price adds up to rent games, id pay for a steam subscription if i got access to every game on steam, but you have devs pulling games off steam to sell their own service

The issue with the Ashened stuff isn’t that their effects are bad. It’s actually the names. The quick play spell is insane, but unsearchable as it’s not an “Ashened” card. Same with Veidos that is needed to do everything. If they all had that name you could go bonfire search the 4, NS the 4 add the quick play, quick play place the field spell on the opponent’s field and add Veidos, veidos pop the field spell summon to opponent’s field, field spell summon the one that summons from deck, summon the other one off that one. And now you have all the names and the 8 on the opponent’s field. Second thing, since it’s a TCG archetype, of course the best card that without it the deck is horrible locks you out of summoning from the extra deck. Outside the pyro searcher rank 4, theirs nothing worth summoning. So the deck will be horrible until we get like 4-5 pyro monsters we can actually summon to end on. Outside veidos being a field spell destroyer handtrap, it’s just like a regular TCG archetype, unplayable competitively.

I am pretty sure there has been multiple Rarity Collections in the OCG, not just one. There was a Rarity Collection for the 20th Anniversary, and now the 25th anniversary. That's where the ghost rare Blue-eyes and Blue-eyes Alternative White Dragon were put in the OCG. Pretty sure there was also a Rarity Collection for the Premium Gold Edition. The Rarity Collection has been going on in the OCG for a very very long time now.

About the transaction rollback ruling, I’m not sure if it is exactly the same but wouldn’t be similar to using labrynth barrage chaining off of eradicator where you just don’t pay the cost and just chose either traps or spells? I only know about it from master duel and it only lasts for the 3 turns. I could wrong about this but I feel that is how it should work.

I'd like a format of MTG where you gain a land each turn, maybe take them out of the deck and have a separate one for the lands, about 30 cards, with maybe 5 or 6 of those dual land cards and you draw one from it each turn and play it immediately. MTG can be so dull if you don't draw a land

My personal view on the new rarity collection is that one it's playing catch up, they really need to up adoption rates and lower the cost of getting into the game, digimon already came in like a wrecking ball stealing up a decent chunk of the market, now Lorcana is taking up another chunk and soon will be stealing some of the competitive audience on top of the casual market. So they have hundreds of cards they want reprinted and accessible right now to up the adoption rates and the success of rarity collection kind of set a precedent that accessibility can be profitable, and two I believe this is also conditioning they likely want to change the perception of rarity and odds for a yu-gi-oh set. Because personally I'm expecting in say 2025 or even later this year they may announce changes to sets making cards more accessible, because so many sets make no sense for general consumers and having your sales depend on a third party market isn't great, when a literally deck builder box has odds that mean you cant actually build a deck after buying a box something has to change. the fact that people cant play with just sealed product isn't good when your the company that sells the sealed product.

Palworld is literally just another Ark/Conan Exiles style of game with Pokémon-style Pals. They’re fun for a little bit, everyone’s tried one of them at least a little bit and have their own fanbase, but the hype around them die pretty quickly. Runeterra is very new player friendly. One(like me) doesn't need to spend a single cent to eventually get all the cards in the game. Buying the pass is a way to support the game per event. Each event takes a while and it is if i remember correctly the least popular riot game. (you can buy things im pretty sure like the equivalent to the royal rare rarity for each of your cards but even this currency riot just hands out enough for your favorite cards sooo.. thats my theory why runeterra took that hit anyway.)

1. Regular secret lairs being drops are kinra bad sinxe they usually have akot of wanted cards but as i said on the last video yall talked about it i had a secret lair from their first secret lair anniversary and it took ne a year to get it so for their commander decks and certain ones its good and bad because when they dont limit the printings it takes forever but when they do it sales out and people use bots to buy them up. As a competitive VGC Pokemon player and someone who is obsessed with experimenting and breeding new and unique teams, I honestly don’t know why there is so much uproar. Not only is Palworld not great when it comes to its clunky and lack of strategic gameplay, but it is also not a very well thought out game. They tried too hard to mesh together varying genres and as a result, the game lacks identity. Palworld will NEVER be a Pokemon when it comes to a nuanced multiplayer game because at its heart, Pokemon has a steep learning curve when it comes to the competitive aspect. This is one aspect where is has a massive advantage over Palworld.

My gf has been saying the same thing with the whole Pokemon isn't the original monster tamer. Whenever I see a comment about it I like to remind people about the whole universe of Shin Megami Tensei/Digital Devil story going back to 1987, way before Persona, and that they were basically the archetypal game for "monster taming". Except your recruiting Demons instead of monsters (Monsters and Demons being basically the same thing game-wise honestly). Even more so with SMT you fight as you, the character yourself with your as opposed to just a turn based combat where you order said beast/monster to attack. I also like telling people that Palworld is basically Digimon World 1 sans poop.

Maybe if the anime cards weren't so weak we wpulsnt be complaining that the anime card is an ultra... And I don't understand why we even tolerate messed up pull rates. It should be like gacha games. Have a breakdown for the odds for each category, like 2% chance that you pull an ultra. But also disclose the percentages inside od the ultra pool. Because we know that not all Ultras are printed equal. If i have a 2% chance to get an ultra and then a 10% chwnce for that ultra to be Thrust, I should know ahead of time. Gacha games are already mandated by law to do this in a lot of Asuan counties so it has carried over to their worldwide releases. But card games? Nah. They wouldnt want you to know what the per card odds are. Then you'd be able to tell just how hard they're ripping you off and they'd have to change their product structe so they REALLY dont want that to happen.

Games preservation doesn't really matter. Once these became digital, they became expendable. Most people are one and done with things. Sadly, people will also have to get used to games just becoming unplayable and lost. Convenience has a cost.

If we had been born into a better timeline; the first couple generations of Pokemon would be public domain by now and we could have had a good Pokemon game years ago. I bought 2 copies of palworld because I'm friends with some dipshits who've bought recent Pokemon games and I have to try and undo their misdeeds.

If i ever got back into the tournament circuit i would LOVE to carry around a soundboard of Paul saying "just act right" and "keep that shit at home" and Alec saying "youre not with your bros in the locker room anymore" 😂 those idiots found it acceptable to bring that trash in public when they started wearing Ahegao tracksuits. If i ever sat down and someone pulled out an Ahegao playmat id laugh first then call the judge because that shit should fall under BM. Pokemon as a franchise is unstoppable, the fights, crime, rule34 and almost riots that encompass the Pokemon hysteria has embedded the franchise into the monster money shitting machine it is today 🤣 As someone that does play Palworld i think that as far as farming sim/builder games go its great. I have a gf thats into games like that, the ACNH, Stardew, Minecraft, and i can never play those games for too long because i run out of things to kill too quick. Palworld though makes adhd brain go brrr. The fact that a lot of pals do resemble a mishmash of 2 or 3 pokemon (design + typing) is a point of contention. I hope moving forward with the money they got they can flesh out the designs more and move it to a more 'Final' acceptable and unique design. Thats hoping for too much though. 26$ early access though, ive spent more money on less like a shitty meal from a place that was supposedly good. That just means i wont "buy my starbucks and avocado toast" for the month 😂 im still having fun with my gf and friends and thats all that really matters. Its more like Digimon World without the poop anyways and just as many guns. Yugioh tins are basically ETBs, and yeah theyve done things similar in the realm and aside from tins you can see why some of the products fail or they deem it not worth producing in that regards over the year. It all goes back to my comment last video on us Westerners deeming the knick knacks mostly garbage. Personally i love them but i know im the minority.

Is it better than the last four Pokémon games? Last I checked none of the last four Pokémon games were survival shooters. Wouldn’t have played them either if they were I have no interest in that type of game.

@@ducky36F Yes it is I played all of them, those games were all ass. The reason why those games are ass is because gamefreak has never time to polish their games and upgrade the gameplay because nintendo doesnt give a fk. But nintendo know they will sell their game anyways because fans will buy their games anyways as long as the title is Pokemon as long as a game full of shit has pika ears they will buy it and act like it is actually good. It s nostalgic I myself always think "mby it will be like back then when I play saphire/diamant for the first time." It will never it is always a disapointment. No but srsly try out palworld. You will need some time to make it as a shooter haha. In the beginning it is more like a survival + gotta catch some pals to make your base + team.

Tbh, that is on Konami for printing the sets the way they do. Players shouldn't have to eat the cost to make it work for an LCS because that essentially proves to Konami that they don't have to change the business model. Card shops should make money in other ways and limit the amount of product they are ordering to sell until set structure improves (or even taking preorders before ordering and not buying any surplus). As an example of one alternative way to make money, maybe charge a fee to use their space for play (maybe start cheap like a $5 monthly membership).
