Apparently there is no longer this option on the bmw website. How can I update my software? I just bought the car and I would like to have the software updated

You can easily check whether your vehicle is compatible. In the vehicle menu, select: “My vehicle” > “Settings” > “General settings” > “Remote software upgrade”. If “Remote software upgrade” is shown, the feature is available on your vehicle. If your BMW is not Remote Software Upgrade capable, the software can be updated at any BMW dealership. For assistance, please contact your BMW dealership. BMW have removed the update link from their website.

I think this has been removed as an option by bmw. :( it looks like the only way now is to either do it by phone, in the car, or to pay hundreds+ at the dealership. I've been trying for hours, have tried multiple different devices and solutions, but i've come to the conclusion it no longer works.

I did exatcly same thing and saved the bin file to the usb stick but when i go the car ( BMW F20/2015 ) the file is not their. I can only see the file in my computer that it should be in my usb stick

Try unzipping the file if you have not or the opposite. If it’s unzipped, try zipped file. Let me know which one works for you?

Yes it still works. I’m receiving mix comments. Some say it worked and others no luck. Most important is to find the software on BMW website then the rest is matter of following process.

They may have discontinued updating softwares for older models. Check BMW website first if software is available.

No it will not come with Apple CarPlay if you don’t have this feature in your vehicle. Apple CarPlay is a feature that you can purchase from BMW Connect if your vehicle is compatible.

It may not work as they may have discontinued updates but there are no harm in giving an attempt. If you enter your VIN on BMW website and can download software, then it should work.

Hi there I just want to ask since I have a 2020 bmw m2 competition and the display of the i drive system is blackout so there is no display, I didnt turn on the car for about 2 to 3 weeks and after starting it, now the display is completely black/blank, what do you think is the problem? is there an easy fix for this?

Try pressing and hold for about 5sec the mode and volume button to reboot the idrive system. Let me know if this works?

Took the car to our local BMW dealer and they tested and concluded our HU was shot. For them to fix it is just under $3000. What a surprise.

The OEM head unit does not come cheap and their labour on top. I would suggest to buy Android head unit and take it to your local technician if not too late.

Congrats, if you’re on idrive 7 with sim card built in then you should be able to update idrive system remotely. Check out BMW website, if no info then give them a call, I believe it’s free of charge for the update. Let me know the outcome please.

That is very strange. I know the GPS is sometimes off slightly but not really bad as you mentioned. Try turning off GPS and turn back on. See if that resolves?

Can you share the actual address you went to for the downloads? Can't find it anywhere, just a sign in page. I just contacted BMW Canada, he said "talk to Connectdrive" then I specifically asked him are there any downloads available online? he said " contact them" jesus.... Honestly I love my BMW but the amount of money they want to scam you out of for some basic stuff is ridiculous. Just like Apple. I had a Honda Civic (ew) for 2 days as a courtesy car and all the features it had in it for a 2017 model blew the BMW away. Very sad. Looks like you'll need to go to the dealership for the update. The app is also screwed up and not working properly.

From my research it looks like BMW has updated their website and they removed the option to input VIN number. Yes the alternative method is to pay BMW dealership for the update.

The idrive software is free and you can download from BMW website. Follow the instructions on the video. For strange reasons, some vehicles don’t have update available so let me know if it works for you.

This could be your vehicle does not recognise the usb or your idrive is up to date. Did you format your usb correctly? What year is your vehicle?
